If you really want to know it's in the following spoiler tag, it's explained in the books in her one PoV chapter, so I'm not sure if it will ever get a show explanation as its all in her head that she thinks this.

I could see that being Shireen's end in the books but no way see it being Stannis' doing, especially considering they're miles apart as of now and a massive snowstorm keeping them separated. Could def see Melisandre doing it though on her own or with Selyse. To me the Stannis thing seems really out of character when you remember that he lasted for over a year at the seige of Storm's End, eating boiled shoe leather and rats before Davos snuck in and now he burns his only heir after one day of no supplies? I try and keep the book characters and the show characters separate in my mind but when they have the same back story in both its hard to visualize one version of the character doing something and another the completely opposite.

Thats a White Walker, not a wight. The wights are the undead raised by the walkers and are killed by fire (why they burn their dead up there), the only thing that had killed a white walker before was dragonglass. Valyrian Steel is meant to have been forged by dragon fire and the ability to make more has been lost, the only thing that can be done now is to melt down current Valyrian steel swords and re-shape them like Tywin did with Ice. The DVDs come with a whole bunch of extras with actors narrating some of the background lore that show doesn't get to, they're all over youtube if you have a look, here's one on Valyrian Steel:

I'm liking that they're finally starting to get Stannis right this season and Jon's storyline has been massively improved but it seems like they've got a quota to f**k up a few characters each time and its really annoying. The Sand Snakes come off like something from a B action movie, and the Littlefinger Sansa stuff just makes no sense at all. Book 5 and later stuff:

Fucking hell...that might have been the most devastating hour of TV ever. I'm drained.
