  1. I don't think it makes that much difference, tbh. If anything, it would have been better for Murray to be playing Roddick, because Roddick's game is a mess right now and Lopez is playing well.

Similar to the Cilic or Ljubicic situation... people thought it would be better for Murray to be facing Ljubicic, but I don't think so.

  2. I thought Murray was a bit complacent. He was clearly looking to just break when an oppertunity when it arose, and he took his mind off of things at that one point during his own serve and it cost him.

And that was exactly my point when I posted that he needs to "get a grip".

He was dominating his service games, getting close to breaking on Traver's, and then suddenly a lapse in concentration and he's a set down.

  3. Im certainly not appointing myself a god of tennis. Just passing comment.

The comment was directed at Widge in particular, who for some reason seems to think he can judge how much tennis someone watched based on one comment. A comment which he's jumped on because he wants to seem really informed about tennis, but has failed because he's picked on someone who actually does follow the sport all year round.

Wimbledon does indeed bring out the fairweather tennis fans who will try to seem knowledgeable when they don't have a clue, but it also brings out some stuck-up arseholes as well.

  4. Baghditis has a better head to head record against Murray, and Mardy Fish has won the last three encounters to nudge 3-2 ahead. Out of interest does anyone have a better head to head record Vs Nadal?

Well that depends whether Baghdatis or Fish are deemed as "worthwhile" opponents. :D

Surprising to hear those stats, though. Although were a couple of those Baghdatis wins not a long time ago? 06/07ish, when Murray was just finding his feet at a decent level.

  5. Nadal was a break down in his first set today but I doubt anyone was telling him to get a grip. Things like that happen against top players all the time and tbh at no point in that match did I ever think Murray would lose.

I never said he would lose. Nor did I think it.

Even Traver playing well should not be taking a set off Andy Murray on grass, and it was a tougher match than it should have been because Murray wasn't finishing games. But of course, the self-appointed gods of tennis opinion can't stand for that.

  6. Some real armchair posters on this site, just like there is everywhere, now I'm not saying don't support him and watch it, but please don't make ill-informed comments and 'C'mon man, get a grip', tennis isn't like that and if more people played they would understand.

I made that comment, and I watch tennis all year, regardless of whether it's an Andy Murray match or not. So kindly STFU. :)

  7. Head-to-head records, the only people who have an advantage over him are Nadal and Djokovic. Murray leads the head-to-heads with Federer, Del Potro, Roddick, Soderling, and almost any other player that it's worth mentioning.

Of course, that's different to being able to beat certain people when it matters, but Murray generally has very good records against pretty much everyone.

  8. Nah, Stan the Man's form is up and down like a proverbial. I believe the US Open match between the 2 last year was a one off. Can Federer get Wawrinka this year? You know, Federer's usual 4th round Walkover?

Not unless they meet in the final. Opposite sides of the draw.

Personally I'm relieved that Federer will have to play 7 matches if he wants to win this time rather than 6.

    And?

I'll happily admit, only Wimbledon grips me, and whilst I may not be as knowledgeable as others on all things Tennis, I and others are still allowed to have our opinions on it.

Yeah, you're allowed your opinions. Just expect to be called out on them when they're utter guff like that other guy's.

  9. £20 on McIlroy at evens mid-way through his 2nd round.

Considering he had a 7 shot lead at that point, I thought those odds were more than generous. I said I wasn't going to gamble until the football season started again, but for that one I couldn't resist. Wish I'd put more down as well...

  10. Well Murray has got a woeful record against Cilic, and IIRC grass suits Cilic so theres easier folk he could have played. Roddick loves Wimbledon and Gasquet is a bit of an unknown, ie which Gasquet will turn up, It's a lot more difficult than his draw at the French, but if he's got his head screwed on, he should manage it. I've seen no evidence to suggest that the top 3 will have to play their best against Murray to beat him. Has Murray beaten any of them in a grand slam? I'm almost certain he hasn't. It's all in his head, get that sorted and he could be going on a 46 match unbeaten run (or whatever it was) like Djokovic.

If I were you, I'd stop posting about tennis.

  11. Djokovic first hit the top three in the world in June 2007. He fell to fourth for a week a couple of months later, but other than that he was fourth for 20 weeks in the summer of 2009. I know it's slightly splitting hairs, but to say he was fourth for at least six months is incorrect.

Closer to 6 months than 4 weeks, anyway. 8)

  12. Feel free to correct me, but I think Murray's been ahead of Djokovic in the rankings for about 4 or 5 weeks in total. Since they both reached the top four anyway. I'm not sure when you think he 'clearly' surpassed him.

Nah, Djokovic was 4th for at least 6 months.

Murray took 3rd in May 09, and held it (including a brief stint in 2nd for a while, ahead of Nadal) until at least the US Open in 2009. The US Open is in September, so Djokovic was definitely 4th from May through September, and a while beyond that as well.
