  1. Yeah its great. The only downside is that the postage is a fixed rate.

Yeah, I noticed that too - it wasnt quite the mucho cheapness that I thought it was going to be at first.

Still worth it though - as far as books are concerned I couldnt care less if the spine is creased or 10 people have already read it - as long as all the pages are there!

  2. Similar to the movie thread, what was the last book you read, what was it about roughly, who would it appeal to and what mark out of 10 would you give it?

I realise in the modern age a lot of people dont read that much any more, but some of us will and I find word of mouth is a great way to get "into" a new author.

    I'll start off with :-

Name & Author :- "Dragon Strike : The Millenium War" by Humphrey Hawksley and Simon Holberton.

Subject :- Global Politics/Third World War type thing

Blurb :- Basically looks at what would happen geo politically if China decided to mop up its neighbours in the South China Sea and beyond to become a global superpower. What would the West, Japan and Russia do? Author is an expert in Chinese affairs and although it was written a few years ago a few of the "future history" predictions have come true.

Score :- Id give it 7 out of 10. More fact than fiction and doesnt revolve around characters as much as "fact". Would appeal to Forsyth, Ludlum etc fans.

  3. and hopefully A-ha in December

My girlfriend is going to see them in December - she has no musical taste either :P Apparently the singer in A Ha is still a sex god, even though he is 105 now.

She also went to see Duran Duran and Wet Wet Wet last year. Must be a thing when women get to that certain age they want to relive childhood crushes :D

  4. On the subject of the best band/music-themed movie ever, Almost Famous is certainly in the top five. Cue the abuse :D

My ex-girlfriend was obsessed by that film - I saw it about 100 times. It is worth watching for the "Tiny Dancer" bus scene. What a song! (Though the Foo Fighters cover was arguably better)

  5. I wouldn't mind seeing Super Size Me, but the thing that sticks in the back of my mind is surely it's not rocket science that eating McD's every day will make you unhealthy?   Some liberal film-maker makes a film showing what everyone knows and he's praised to high heavens.  I'm sure it's very well made and entertaining though.

I quite fancy watching Gosford Park on Saturday night.

Yeah - Im with you. McDonalds in not-good-for-you shocker :o I had a Big Mac Meal today - it was very tasty! I could feel the chips clogging up my arteries as I ate them. Mmmmm...chips.

    It was quite entertaining though.

  6. A tragic tale of a young honeybee, brought up in Baltimore's seedier district.  Against the odds, he learns to love again, thanks to a new teacher played by Tom Hanks.  Sadly, the bee then contracts HIV, and spends his dying days befriending homeless bees and teaching them to play basketball.

Sounds a better plot than a film about a spelling bee!

  7. 'Vera Drake' on DVD with the current gfriend on Friday night (her choice). V depressing stuff. Pointless drivel about back street abortions 5/10.

Last trip to the pics was to see Hotel Rwanda, harrowing and deeply disturbing. decent enough film but subject matter not really my thing 6/10.

You are into your feelgood films I see mate :P

  8. Last film I went to see was Closer.

Jude Law, Julia Roberts, Natalie Portman and Clive Owen. Was more of a character study than a film really.

Natalie Portman is lovely but to balance that I hate Jude Law. Couldnt care less about the other two.

Wouldnt really recommend it I dont think, but Ive seen worse - much worse.

Id say 4/10. Watch it if it comes on Sky and theres nothing better on.

  9.

I preferred your 'who polices the police?' one though

Its one of my favourite Latin phrases...

I only remembered it because I read "Digital Fortress" recently, which has the even more confusing Latin phrase for

"Who polices the police who police the police"

    :D

  10. I'm listening to Virgin Radio since that appears to be about the only station I can get to stream on Windows Media Player in the office when working late!

I used to listen to that too on night shift, but our all-encompassing filter blocks the site!

    It doesn't mind P&B though ;)

I'm listening to one of the many Hed Kandi compilations.
