  1. Cheers for that, I gave those exercises a try tonight and will get a foam roller as well.
  2. Unlucky mate, very frustrating when something out with your control spoils it after months of training. Watched the video you posted up crossing the finish line didn't look too pleased I went to Strathclyde parkrun on Saturday felt fine before it and was ok during knee maybe a wee bit sore. Went to the Clyde game later that day and the knee was really tight again had to hobble up the hill back to Broadwood farm. Pretty sure its my IT band from speaking to runners at work but their advice and that on the internet varies from place to place. I've been doing some exercises strength my core to hopefully save the knees a bit and some exercises to stretch the IT band although some places say its like a bit of leather can't be stretched out.
  3. I probably entered too many races this year, so I will just be concentrating on completing my 50th Parkrun by the end of the year. I have been stuck on 46 for a couple of months now. Will hopefully be able to use all the half marathon training etc. to record a new PB at 5k distance. Edinburgh Parkrun is ok, flat course but it is always very busy which can cause problems at the start.
  4. My wife recorded me crossing the finish line of the Half Marathon. Was pretty dejected by that point and was just glad to finally be finished. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFLPbZbf_8s&feature=youtu.be
  5. Cheers mate. Well done on the pb that's an excellent time. Good to see so many p & b members complete the 10k and half Marathon! Really liked that course will hopefully get a decent shot at in 2014.
  6. Completed the half Marathon an hour later than my target time. I could barely run after the 4 mile mark due to my knee. In the end I was just glad to be able to do the distance at least I beat the guy in the humpty dumpty costume . Raised £850 so far for Crohn's and Colitis UK, I've had Crohns disease since I was 15, and still got a few donations to come. My work is going to match whatever I raise so will be up to £1700. I am over the moon with that didn't think I would get anywhere near that amount!
  7. Hope its just down to weather! Most runs I feel a bit sore in random places until I get into my stride. I tried going out a run there and could feel my left knee getting sore after half a mile so chucked it then. Will be a gentle jog round the Glasgow Half Marathon for me. Really disappointed after all those months of training but at least I have raised a decent amount for charity and even better my work is matching all donations pound for pound
  8. Bought a knee support today as it is still not feeling great from the Dumfries half Marathon last weekend. I'll be going out for a small run tomorrow and see how it goes. I have been training for the Glasgow Half for a good few months now so will be pretty gutted if I can't at least do the distance. I have gave up on any notations of getting round in a good time. Well a good time for me that is.
  9. Well done! I was last at Dumfries today which was a very small field too only around 300. Hoping to run Cumbernauld 10k next year as its my home run.
  10. Got my running number in for GSR on Friday. Finished the Dumfries half marathon today. The IT band in my left knee has been giving us problems. It was ok up to mile 6 then just crumbled. I jogged on till mile 10 and then had to walk the last 3 miles. Just hope its ok for the Glasgow half.
  11. I've been talking shite then telling everyone its the same course as the Commonwealth. Not sure were O picked that up from. Looking at the GSR route not too keen in the bit around 8/9 miles where you will be able to see the faster guys on the home stretch.
  12. They changed the routes this year for GSR. The route for half marathon is what they will be using for the Commonwealth games next year for the marathon (2 laps of the course) not sure if the 10K has changed as well. The routes are on the GSR website.
  13. Finished the Stirling 10k in 62 mins 18 secs, really pleased with that given the conditions and is a new PB for me. Hopefully should be able to get under an hour for 10k shortly. Running the Dumfries Half marathon with my running club so will miss Cumbernauld 10k again. Would really like to run Cumbernauld as it starts and finishes at Clyde's ground will hopefully be able to do it next year. I am also running the GSR half marathon, when I initially signed up I would have been happy with around 2 hours 30 mins but hoping to be a bit under that now. I am running it for the Crohn's & Colitis charity so this more important to me than the time I finish in.
  14. I have had the Garmin 110 for around a year now and it has been great. I think I paid around £120 for it and comes with heart monitor which I have never used. It usually connects to a satellite pretty quickly only downside is the elevation isn't that accurate sometimes. I've got the Stirling 10k this weekend hopefully the weather isn't too bad for it.
  15. For my longer training runs, 8 to 12 miles, I just take a sports drink. I have a running belt so just stick it in that as I hate carrying a bottle when out running. I don't take anything else with me, I can't stand they energy gels and have managed to get round the longer runs without really needing to have something to eat. Although I have been starving not long after finishing them. Once you have been out a couple of times you'll start to learn what works best for you. Might be best for the first couple of longer runs to plot a course that loops round several times and doesn't take you too far away from your house. I was out last night and at one point was a good 7 miles away from my house.
  16. Sorry to hear that, the Stirling 10k is on the 15th Sep as well. Nice flat course. 2 hours and 2 mins for the St Andrews Hospice 18k today. It's the furthest I have run so far and was using at as a training run for the Dumfries half marathon so happy just to get round and felt comfortable at the end so should manage the half marathon ok.
  17. There is a couple of race calculators, you can use, which estimates your half marathon time based on your 10k time etc. http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/general/rws-race-time-predictor/1681.html http://www.runningforfitness.org/calc/racepaces/rp?metres=10000&hr=0&min=00&sec=00&age=38&gender=M&Submit=Calculate
  18. Was out with the running club on Sunday for just over an 8 mile run around the Clyde valley some of the hills were ridiculous. Was way out my comfort zone and really struggled with last couple of hills. Still really enjoyed it though! There a good bunch and the extra motivation when you are out with other folk is great. Out with them again tomorrow night for more hill reps!
  19. Signed up for the St Andrews road race 18km. So we are up to 3 at least! Hope they get a good turnout posted earlier that my mum works there so well aware of the good work they do. It will be the furthest distance I have run and good prep for the Glasgow half. Went out with the Clyde runners last night, they are a social running club based in Carluke and quite happy for slower runners to join them. Two mile run at either end of 4 x 4 mins intervals at 5k pace. Was tough going in the heat but enjoyed it will be back out with them on Friday night.
  20. Not much activity on this thread recently, guessing not many folk out running in this heat? I started a 12 week training plan for the Glasgow half and have pretty much followed it for the last two weeks. Completed the Edinburgh bupa 10k last week which was a struggle as the course is bugger at the best of times never mind in this heat. Was at Strathclyde parkrun this morning only 4 runs away from 50 now! Anyone any idea how much pace/time you lose in this heat? Was well over a minute slower this morning compared to recent parkruns.
  21. That's shite, at least I am getting paid for some of the overtime I am doing but it is making it very hard to fit any running in during the week.
  22. Well done mate. I was 71 mins really disappointed with that time was a pretty flat course as well but I was knackered after working 60 hours this week so running on empty. Hit the 5k Mark at 36 mins! I was 31 mins at the parkrun last week. I've signed up for the Glasgow half in October as well. My mum works for St Andrews hospice and they have a 18k road race at the start of September so be signing up for that as well . Will be a good indicator of how the training is going for the half marathon.
  23. Completed the EMF 10k today at Holyrood park was a tough course! Great views across Edinburgh when you final reached the top of the hill and at least there was a downhill section next to the loch. Finished in 74 mins which is terrible compared to some of the times folk post on here but I've not been out running as much I would have liked lately due to the ridiculous hours am working at the moment. Completed a 6 mile charity run last week at Strathclyde park and signed up for the Carluke 5 mile road race next week. Up to 40 parkruns now so only 10 anyway from being part of the 50 club and getting the tshirt Good luck to anyone doing the marathon or half marathon tomorrow!
  24. Remember somebody saying that they are changing the Glasgow half to the route that will be used for the commonwealth marathon so they'll be testing the first 13 miles if its true.
