Kafka on the Shore - Haruki Murakami.
Classic Murakami, absolutely raced through this book and it's amongst his best work. 9/10.

Somers Town - 8/10
The latest film from Shane Meadows about a teenager from the midlands who runs away to London and the friendship he strikes up with a young Polish immigrant. Different from Meadows previous films but I found it pretty enjoyable and easy watching.

Looking forward to the Glasgow half marathon despite my preperations being disrupted with a bizarre injury that involved me dropping a plate on my foot.
Hoping to do 1 hour 40 minutes or thereabouts but wouldn't be surprised to clock in nearer the 2 hour mark.
Anyone else running?

Just popped into Republic Bier Hof for lunch and had the all you can eat buffet for a fiver washed down with a bottle of Pilsner Urquell. Lovely.

My girlfriend made Leczo tonight - it's a vegetable stew with loads of peppers, onions and spices in it. Never had it before and it was top notch.

I had teriyaki trout with boiled rice and broccoli. It was pretty sexy.

HA
How fast is that then?
Using more excellent arithmetic you'd need an average speed of 10mph.

Now that my calf ligaments have pretty much healed, I'm looking to get back into (or into properly for starters), running again.
Does anyone have any idea where I can get a step counter/distance checker type thing for running? Preferably somewhere in Glasgow city centre?
Not 100% sure, have you tried Run 4 It on Bothwell Street?
I've only run about 15 miles this week, need to really step up if I'm going to a decent time in the Glasgow Half Marathon in September.

I did it last year and finished 16th (out of 2,410 finishers!)
I'm sure I could have had a go at top 5 this year but alas my running days are now over.
Good luck, its a good course.
Cheers! This was my second year doing it and really just using it as part of training for September Half Marathon - did just over 45mins but could have probably taken a couple of minutes off it.
Gutted to hear of your injury, seemed like you were posting some amazing times and am starting to get as obsessed with it as you seemed to be! If only I could keep off the booze...

"A Life's Music" by Andrei Makine.
A brilliant novella about an encounter with a concert pianist forced to go on the run in the former Soviet Union days before his first public performance. I read it in a couple of hours and loved every minute. I really like Makine and this is probably his best so far.

I had a great four years getting wasted at the taxpayers expense. My degree also led to a decent job afterwards which is a nice coincidence.

Anyone doing the Men's Health 10K on Sunday? Did it last year and quite enjoyed it, aiming to do it this year around the 45 minute mark.

Just finished The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka.
A thoroughly compelling read, perhaps a bit flowery and needlessly descriptive at parts. I'll give The Trial a read on the strength of this.
8/10
I'm not too sure about some of Kafka's stuff but really enjoyed The Trial.
I've just finished How Late It Was, How Late by James Kelman. Not usually a fan of books written in Scottish dialect but thought this was very good - prefer his short stories though. 7/10.

Been running about 25 miles a week in preperation for the Glasgow half marathon, probably should be doing a little more. Nine miles yesterday in the wind and rain, didn't feel too bad after it.
I'll probably try and do a 15 mile run by the end of the week before easing down the the week after in the lead up to the race.
The Stirling 10K is only a couple of weeks after, enjoyable race that and a good course for a PB.
Has anyone ever ran a marathon, half marathon or 10k on the continent? Myself and a couple of friends are looking to go away next year to run and any recommedations would be welcome. I'd be looking to run my first marathon whilst the others would probably be doing a half or 10k so any that organise these on the same day would be ideal.
