Always struggle to understand why Willie Miller is so disliked as a pundit.

Maybe because he is an arrogant pr1ck of a man who thinks he is above having to know names of players outwith Rangers, Celtic and Aberdeen.

Very rarely gives any credit to clubs, and is only happy when being negative about someone or a team.

I've looked into visiting St Kilda. Bloody expensive! Think it was about £150 per person. Also, IIRC, trips will only go ahead if there's a minimum of 10(?) people booked to go. Probably not so difficult to arrange in summer mind you.

I have booked to go this July and it is £225 each. You get a provisional date as well in case the weather is not good enough to travel

    From another forum.

Kilmarnock Juniors were formed in 1938 and disbanded in July 1956. They joined the Western League at the start of the 1939-40 season. Although the senior side suspended operations through the war, the Juniors, due to a lack of ground of their own, failed to capitalize on it. They used a number of grounds during their short existence:

    Howard Park 1943-46
Greyhound Stadium 1946-52 [some games were played in Hurlford during 1947-48]
    Strandhead Park, Stewarton 1952-53
    Kirkstyle 1953-56

The Howard Park used to be called Barbadoes Green and was where the fledgling Kilmarnock FC played in 1868/69. Kirkstyle was for many years the home of Kilmarnock Cricket Club.

The closest Kilmarnock Juniors came to winning any silverware was in reaching the final of the Ayrshire Junior Cup in season 1941/42(lost to Ardeer Recreation 6-2 over two legs) and again in season 1944/45(lost again to Ardeer Recreation 4-0 after a 1-1 draw). They also lost in the final of the Western League Cup in season 1944/45(1-2 to Hurlford United) and finished as runners-up to Ardeer Recreation in the 1943/44 Western League.

Kilmarnock Juniors struggled on and off for many years, folding and reforming before finally going under in 1956. At one game just one spectator paid for admission.
Killie's return to the top flight in 1954 was what really finished them off though another Kilmarnock junior club Riccarton Bluebell went under in 1953 when Killie were still in the B Division. They never won anything of note.

First team to play at Brig O'Lea in a competitive match against Neilston Juniors, losing 9-0.

Thanks for this info.  I was asking my father if he knew anything about them at the weekend but he didn't.

  4. Hell, could we not have had an open training session and worked with Hurlford United so they had a league game afterwards at Rugby Park? I'm sure Hurlford would be glad of the extra publicity and I've said for a while we need to start working closely with them and try to arrange something such as discounted double tickets for entry to Blair Park and Rugby Park if we can get the kick-off times of the 'ford games to be slightly earlier. .

What a daft idea, which would have next to no benefit for our club.  Most junior fans I know have no interest in the senior game.  Many of them unbelievably think the juniors game is a better product

  5. Locke deserves better from his players. How can you draw against Hearts, beat ICT the next week then totally capitulate to the bottom side following that?

The manager is the easy target but the players are to blame for yesterday's debacle.

I agree with you 100% when you question why these players can defend well against some teams yet don't turn up or switch off against others. I think the players this season have to question their commitment and attitude as personal pride alone should ensure you do not lose 4 or more goals at least 5 times in a season, particularly against world beaters like Dundee, Thistle, Ross County and a team which hasn't won in 10 games.

So Locke I feel has a right to feel aggrieved and cheated to a certain extent however as others allude to when it goes wrong he doesn't seem to be able to change things when they are going wrong. We are also virtually 2/3rds of the way through the season and he still doesn't know his best defence. The fact he still has Tope in the squad shows how clueless he really is - Tope wouldn't get a game with a good junior team IMO.

The team also are not well organised which is why we have so many attempts at goal against us - we stand off teams and let them get into positions where they can shoot far too easily. We defend across the pitch, rather than as 2 blocks of 4 like others do to us - this is something he also learned from Captain Calamity and his sidekick Billy Brown.

I think both the players and Locke are culpable for what is one of the worst seasons I have ever experienced as a Killie fan, and I have been watching them since the 60's. The only 2 managers worse than Locke are Clunie and Allan Johnston, with Jefferies not far behind for the last 4 years he was here.

  6. :)

What did your clubs' old stadium look like? What are your abiding memories of the old place? Are you (honestly) in a better position the way things are now? Or would you prefer to go back to the good old days?

It would also be interesting to see your memories about visiting the grounds that other fans mention too.

As for Rugby Park - here's some crackin' pictures of how it used to be...

I have only fleeting memories of the old place, but we are most definitely better off now. Yes, the 'new' Rugby Park is far too big for our needs, and the leg-room is ridiculous in all stands but the Frank Beattie, but it's home.

When I first was taken to Rugby Park I stood under the old Johnnie Walker roof then when I started going myself I moved to just left of the half way line of the terracing and now sit in the same area.

Great seeing the other photos, particulalry the old ones of Dens and Easter Road.

I remember going to Easter Road in the early 80's and we had to enter the ground at the main terracing side then walk down all the steps and round to the enclosure under the stand. I reckon we had less than 50 supporters through that day as we were terrible that season under Clunie.

McDicken scored an equaliser with about 8 minutes to go and loads of the Hibee nutters all got up from their seats and started running round the back of the main stand to get at the Killie fans - we promptly left!! :):) :) :):)
