Has anyone actually witnessed anti-semitism either in person, or on social media?

I'm not saying it doesn't exist, but compared to islamophobia (which seems to be rife), it seems to be a miniscule problem here.

Yes, definitely. Worst examples in person, such as a guy who fought for the Wehrmacht during WWII using the word "saujude" in the workplace while speaking to a fellow German and then realising I understood more German than he had thought I did, were outside Scotland though. Some of the stuff I have heard working with Poles over the years has nauseated me quite frankly given what happened in their part of the world during WWII. It's nothing like as common with Scottish folk but I have heard it a couple of times. With a more diverse population there are more people in Scotland now from cultures where anti-Semitism has historically been the norm rather than an aberration so the idea it's a miniscule problem seems naive to me. If "here" means the UK rather than Scotland, it's important to bear in mind that the London area where there is a much larger Jewish population had Oswald Mosley doing his thing in the not too distant past historically.

...What’s happening here is because the western powers have ignored what has happened to the Palestinians in Israel,...

About 20% of Israel's citizens are Palestinian Arab and their treatment overall is actually quite reasonable. A big part of the problem is the West (mainly the Americans) allowing Israel to get away for so long with what happens in Gaza and the West Bank so they get to have a de facto one state solution that suits them without extending the overall fairly reasonable treatment of Israeli Arabs to all of what used to be Palestine pre-1948 because that would threaten the Jewish electoral majority.

There needs to be a serious plan from the West to enforce an equitable two state solution by implementing the sort of sanctions on Israel that Russia is currently under so Israel reverts back to its 1967 borders or what we are seeing now is only the foothills of what is to come. Problem is a sizable portion of the US electorate sincerely believes that something something all the Jews must return to Israel something something Battle of Armageddon something something Rapture.

  3. Definitely why multiple automatic relegation places from League 2 would be good so there could be more HL and LL clubs involved in the playoffs. Doubt it's going to be possible to ever change what's in place though given the SPFL's voting structure. Given the way Darvel blew promotion challenges a couple of times despite having a ridiculous budget at their disposal I think it's too early for other clubs to throw in the towel.

I'm sure every club nominates which League they will drop into if relegated so at the start of the season it is known where they will go. I don't know if that means say at the end of this season, if Gretna survive, they could change their mind an nominate the WOSFL for the start of 2024-25 season.

Think there's no danger of that happening when you have a WoS officeholder answer with a straight "no" as his reply on that scenario. There is little to no transparency on this matter for some reason, but it's not the club that gets to choose by all accounts but the four leagues involved. Personally think where each LL club would be relegated should be stated explicitly on the league websites involved, so there is no room for doubt, but maybe there's some procedural reason why they can't do that.

If Gretna were to get relegated could they opt to drop into the WOSFL as opposed to the East or South? ...

It's not their choice apparently unlike what happens with the Highland League and its three feeders. It's determined by the four leagues involved and as things stand that means the SoS apparently. There seemed to be people in EoS circles who thought Gretna could be coming their way last season (?) but it wasn't entirely clear why.

Absolutely streets ahead today. 8 or 9 nil could have been the result and Stirling would have had little complaint.

Slight disappointment to hear Edinburgh's late equaliser was disallowed but the complete erosion of Falkirk's GD advantage is very pleasing.

Livescore.com even briefly had it as 2-2 which was a bit of a downer when they changed it back to 2-1.

If we’ve managed to get money in for our 3rd choice LB it would appear to be a good bit of business. Hopefully we can strengthen in other areas

Might be what made the arrival of the new guy from QoS reserves possible?

  8. If it's changing from the League Cup this season to the Challenge Cup next season, "usual invitation" was a strange way to phrase that post. Do you have a link for this? The League Cup invitation this season came out of the blue for a lot of people, including the University of Stirling. From stuff I have read they seemed to have thought second place last season (once the B teams are factored out given they don't count in determining league position issues) meant they had qualified for that along with Spartans/Albion Rovers.

Keep trying with the shit stirring.

Older/less able folk enquiring about seating, and asking if you can pay by card in 2023 really reeks of entitlement of course.

Thing is Cowdenbeath have already played at this ground including a Scottish Cup game about a decade ago as well as the league game last season so are we really supposed to believe you don't know? This sort of info also tends to be readily available via google so that's why asking it here can come across as a snide windup.

Bo'ness United didn't receive decades of pools money and SPFL and SFA handouts like Cowdenbeath did or undeserved entry into the League Cup this season, so Newtown Park is what it is just like Hill of Beath, Lochgelly Albert or Dundonald Bluebell's grounds are what they are, i.e. homely rather than all mod cons.

"Are there seated area", "Can you pay by card" .....WTF !! ...

Didn't appear to go down well when I pointed it out last week but some of them do still need to get their head around the fact that they are now a LL club. One thing there isn't is a stock car track so one thing they will be able to do is get a decent view of the action.

  11. Worth noting the damaged corvette wasn't in Sevastopol but a shipyard very close to the Kerch bridge on the other side of Crimea. If those missiles were not intercepted, presumably all the Americans need to do now is provide the necessary type of ATACMS and the road and rail bridges can be taken out. Same comment with the Germans where Taurus missiles are concerned. There's also talk from some of the more credible twitter accounts that the Ukrainians have been moved at least one armoured vehicle to the left bank of the Dnieper close to Kherson:

The Ukrainians reportedly have been able to gain dominance in that area where drones are concerned (whole thread is worth a read) :

  12. Vaguely remember reading about this game (or another around this time involving a Lochee club and Carnoustie Panmure) in connection with British Rail arranging a football special for it, which wouldn't even be possible now obviously.

So you reckon a 16 team league wi 3 up 3 doon would stop meaningless games...

You still don't appear to have fully grasped what was in the original post. As a Whitehill Welfare supporter you should be aware that there would in fact be 4 rather than 3 possible relegation slots at that point. At the other end of the table the scenario is less than ideal but the top four do obtain Challenge Cup entry, and Stirling Uni and East Kilbride ultimately wound up with home ties against Airdrie and Hamilton Accies this season through that. At that point there are 8 league places out of 16 (once the Celtic and Hearts B teams have been booted out once and for all at the end of this season) that would either be well worth avoiding or would provide some sort of prize. Add in about three clubs that would be likely to still be on the outer fringes of the relegation zone or the hunt for Challenge Cup qualification until close to the end of the season and you have a recipe for very few meaningless games.

Before Florida Man, The Sunshine State used to have the stereotype of being the retirement home for elderly Jews, so this might very well be a tragic attempt to buy support....

"...it was like I died and woke up in Jew heaven" being a particularly memorable description of Miami from Goodfellas. Traditionally they were Democrat voters though. Probably aimed more at Bible Belt Evangelicals and the presidential race.
