Ayina played on the right of the back-three for United against County, in the post-split match last season. I know Jordan White scored a hat-trick of tap-ins against them, but I thought Ayina looked very good then, but also quite raw.

Promising but incredibly raw and naive. Sold a few goals trying to dribble past opposition forwards in his own box. Also, very strong, fast, good technique. He'll be a good player eventually whether he's there yet remains to be seen.

Were not going to win any play offs, were safe from relegation, let him start building for next season and alternate playing Corr and Masson

Ffs man, you guys are level on points at the top of the league. You surely can't seriously be thinking of writing off this season and building for the future. No disrespect to Rovers but there will always be at least one bigger/wealthier competitor in the Championship. To be level on points at the top of the league in mid January is a once a decade (at most) position. You can't write it off as an incremental improvement. It's obviously not "now or never" but it could be a while before this sort of chance arises again.

Releghitti away to Killie on loan, sadly it’s only for 7 days, hopefully extended for the season

Literally nobody else in Scotland got goalie gloves? Wouldn't even need to be proper gloves, grab a fat boy off the street and give him a pair of Marigolds.

OK, I wasn't aware of that. I assume, and hope, that someone down south would take him on for the rest of the season.

I think it's mostly speculation, tbf, but it would make sense. I can't see any other reason why he wasn't put on the first plane back to Cardiff on 1st January.

Makes absolute sense for Denham to leave. The current situation is no good for the player, or for either us or Cardiff

Suggestion elsewhere, which I think must be right, that there's no break clause on United's side and we're committed  to paying all/most of his wages whilst on loan. No point in Cardiff agreeing to his return until/unless they have another club willing to take him on.

Feel quite bad for the guy. He was absolutely ragdolled by Graham in that Partick game and didn't look too clever against Spartans but he's clearly a decent player, technically, and you would think could do a job somewhere, for someone, rather than wasting his time sitting on his arse for the last seven months.

  6. I'd be amazed if they let Watt go in January.

Whatever the merits of his playing contribution, the optics would be dreadful. Allowed to leave last January, not replaced, team relegated, brought back, rehabilitated, vice captain and then allowed to go again. Even United aren't that tone deaf.

    Probably.

    Ashgar was never a Director.

Directors' Renumeration was only £7,500 so its not like they were fleecing the club with a big salary

Aye, you're quite right. As Granny says above, Dorward resigned at the end of 2022 so, yeah, probably him.

Was Asghar not referred to as "Sporting Director" while at the club or have I just pulled that out of my arse?

    ...

    Indeed he was .. https://www.dundeeunitedfc.co.uk/news/7743/CLUB-STATEMENT--TONY-ASGHAR-LEAVES-DUNDEE-UNITED.html

Not wishing to tell United how to do their business (because where would it end?) but it's really not a good idea to be giving someone who is not formally a director the title of "Director". That can lead to all sorts of unintended consequences.

  8. Not sure we particularly need Wotherspoon but he's a good, experienced player so wouldn't turn my nose up at him. I think we were interested in Grieve in the summer and by all accounts he's a hard working, pacy forward who scored lots of goals at a lower level but hasn't done a huge amount in the top flight. Seems to make sense.

What we really need, ahead of striker even, is a right sided centre back. I'm not against the concept of Ross Graham. He's a solid enough back-up centre half at this level but he's terribly one footed and really looks out of place on the right side. If he's back up for Holt (and possibly McMann) then fine, but it's a decent back-up for Gallagher which is really required.

Not sure I'd read too much in McLeod and Thomson returning. McLeod wasn't getting a game so he'd be as well sitting on the bench/ in the stand at Tannadice; Thomson's loan was only ever intended to last until January. If another striker comes in then I'd expect him to go back to Montrose at the end of the window.

Tbf, the survey is basically asking about fans raising cash to do something.

That might be the next step but there's nothing in the survey about how any changes would be paid for, nor anything which would suggest that it's about redeveloping the shed. If they're angling for a particular outcome then they're not doing a very good job of it.

Was fuming about it.  Thought it was absolutely clueless refereeing that he didn’t see it as a fairly cynical foul to stop a promising move down the line, as i thought it was obviously late and reckless, rather than legitimate attempt to win ball.

Was even more annoyed with the Arbroath player as he has obviously done him a right sore one with it.  Not heard an update but hopefully it’s not a lengthy lay off for McMann.

We were pretty close to the incident and it looked like the Arbroath player played the ball quite cleanly. The follow through wasn't great and it might be argued that it was overly aggressive but it wasn't late and I'm not convinced it was a foul. It wasn't given as a foul.

Our survival is not based on games against Raith or United, our season will be defined by how we do against the rest

Aye, sure. Just not feeling the same vibes from that game that the home fans seem to be feeling. We've had plenty of games this season which have ended up as comfortable wins but which were in the balance for long spells. Today wasn't one of those days.

That was nothing like the first two games - the first one in particular was like watching e.g. Celtic v Elgin City. It was non stop relentless attack after attack and united could easily have scored 10+ that day.

Up until the first goal, today’s game was reasonably even. Yes United had a couple of decent chances but nothing clear cut. We also had some chances and good attacking play.

The first goal was a complete fluke, the second looked like a poor error of judgement from Gaston and the third came so soon after that it knocked the stuffing out of Arbroath and killed the game as a contest.

Aside from that, we looked energetic, dangerous at times and never gave up. As has been said already - considering the mess we’re in at the moment re squad size, injuries, literally one “fit” defender who is playing with a broken toe and the fact that most of our players must be running on fumes - then it wasn’t nearly as bad as it could have been or actually should have been.

Whatever gets you through the night.

If someone had said we'd be top of the league at the halfway point back in August I'd have bitten their hand off but it feels a bit hollow after that as it should be by more. If there's a hard way to do anything we'll find it.

Oooft. Should be clear by more after failing to win a single league game by more than a goal and having scored at least half a dozen winners or equalisers in stoppage time. That's quite some take.
