I’d imagine he’d hit a premier league team before landing on us.

If Stanger goes and we keep Musonda, signing Strapp would make sense, combined, they would form 1 fit and functioning left/centre back.
Crawford & Smith would be good additions and I’d prefer we made a higher % of signings like that, still  take punts on English lower league players but if they are pish or slow burners, then we don’t end up in the bottom 4, hoping for good business in January.

Why would Stanger go? He’s under contract and started almost every game this season when fit.

  2. Given we’re now confirmed as safe I’d hope initial contract talks have happend with the squad. One of the disadvantages of making the playoffs last year was the delay we had to our recruitment. it’s pivotal we get that right this season.

Think this is our current situation:-

    Under-contract:

Robbie Mutch- Happy to have him as back up but based on what I’ve seen I wouldn’t feel comfortable having him as a starter every week. Think we need a new goalkeeper as Albinson will almost certainly be off and don’t think Clarke is the answer.

Ollie Ecrepont- Seems to have really have had a succesful loan at East Stirlingshire so will be interesting to see what the plan is for him next season. With Mutch and another I suspect another loan at a higher level may be the best thing for his development.

Nicholas McAllister- Still don’t agree with given him a new deal but what is done is done. Really need to be bringing in a 1st choice right back though. Have been crying out for one since Liam Smith left.

Dylan Watreat- Like Ollie has had a succesful loan at ES. Will be interesting again to see if we loan him out to a higher level or have have him as back up to McAllister and hopefully another.

Sean McGinty- Seems to have fell slightly out of favour with Brown however still happy to have him about next season. Possibly not as a starter though.

George Stanger- I really rate Stanger and he’s at an age where he can improve. Think he’ll be a starter again next year.

Ben Dempsey- I really rated Dempsey when he 1st signed. The midfield three of him, Murdoch and McInroy in the 2nd half of the season where he avoided relegation on last game was excellent and a big part of why we stayed up. He’s been pretty anonymous this season though. A big season for him to see if he can kick on.

Roy Syla- Not much I can really say on Syla, a decent enough midfield option at this level.

Aidan McGeady- Conpletely finished as a footballer however have no idea how effective he is in his other role at the club to decide on whether it’s worth having him around the place. Presuming the playing part isn’t costing us too much there’s probably no harm in keeping him registered as a player but only to be used in the case of dire emergencies.

Jamie Murphy- Deservedly won POTY and if he is fit should be the first name on the team sheet. A complete rolls Royce of a player who we are lucky to have.

Scott Tomlinson- Brown seems to be trying to turn him into a fullback however I’m not convinced he’ll be any good there. Looks good going forward but suspect defensively.

Mark McKenzie- an okay back up but wouldn’t want him to be starting many games. Not the kind of guy that’s going to get 10 nevermind 15-20 goals a season.

Fraser Bryden- Similarly to McKenzie  I don’t think he’s going to get 10 goals a season. Is a few years younger than McKenzie and is probably in need of a loan if possible.

Ahkeem Rose- Seems to have had a fairly decent loan spell at Accies, had a spell where he seemed to be scoring every week (scored a hat trick in one of the games) but the goals seemed to have tried up. Wouldn’t be surprised if we came to an agreement to mutually consent his deal in order for him to return south/sign for Accies permanently.

Max Guthrie- haven’t barely seen any of him to really judge. Played against Troon for Deanos testimonial and looked quite impressive. Sure it was him that scored that day. Maybe a loan?

Lucas McRoberts- again similar to Guthrie haven’t seen enough of him to judge. Had a 10 minute cameo v Thistle on Saturday and didn’t look out of place really, like Guthrie could see him out on loan.

    Out of contract-

Charlie Albinson- Out of favour with Brown amid rumours of a fallout. The return of Timmo slightly increases his chances of staying but think he’ll be off regardless which if we’re honest may be best for both club and player. RELEASE

Paddy Reading- prior to his injury he was improved on what he was last year however based on his overall contribution I’d be releasing him however rumours are he’s signed/will be signing a new deal. Need to be bringing in another left back imo. RELEASE

Nathan McGinley- Not much I can say on him. Has been injured since he signed. RELEASE

Frankie Musonda- If it wasn’t for Frankie’s injury record I’d have  no hesitations In giving him a new deal but sadly he can never get a run of games without breaking down so it’s a let go for me although wouldn’t hate it if he was offered something. RELEASE

Paul Smith- Has never really kicked on from that MOTM performance in the last game of the season two years ago. Has barely featured since Brown came in. Only way I can see him being offered anything is due to his age and we may be due a development fee. RELEASE

Andy Murdoch- Murdoch is a very good player at this level however his performances definately regressed after his 1st knee injury, no idea how this 2nd one will have affected him. Can probably see the club doing the morally correct thing and give him training facilities to get back fit however whether he’s offered anything remains to be seen. UNDECIDED

Franny Amartey- Franny has been painfully under used this season imo by both Bullen and Brown. I really like him and would definately be offering him a deal, not convinced Brown will though. KEEP

Carter Jenkins & Dario Vivianni- Not seen enough of them to properly make a decision but given neither seemed to overly impress on loan at Gretna. Dario loaned to a lower level for more game time then I’d imagine both may be off. RELEASE

    Loans ending:

Josh Clarke- I think he’s done okay since coming in and has got some unnecessary stick on here, that being said I wouldn’t be overly keen on signing him permanently. He’s probably an upgrade on Mutch however a downgrade on Albinson (at his best) and even Aidan McAdams. RELEASE*

Jack Sanders- A few weeks ago this would of been firmly a fire straight into the sea however his performances have definately improved. I probably wouldn’t be offering him anything however if he did sign permanently I’d be a bit more relaxed now. RELEASE

Harry McHugh- Just a bit of a meh player if I’m honest. Not terrible but doesn’t really ever affect a game. No improvement on the likes of Syla or Dempsey imo so don’t see much point in trying to get him again. RELEASE.

Logan Chalmers- To the shock of Absoulotely nobody he’s a must keep for me. I’ve seen people saying they wouldn’t be pushing the boat out for him however I completely disagree. On his day easily one of the best players in the league. KEEP

Harry Willoughby- Has mainly played 2nd fiddle to Anton Dowds since he’s came in. The virus he suffered probably coming at the wrong time. Don’t think we’ve seen enough to prove he’s worth getting again. RELEASE

Anton Dowds- Similar to Chalmers a must keep for me and I suspect there is every chance we will. Has clearly enjoyed his football here and his relationship with Partick Thistle seems to have totally broken down. My only concern is I think he’s from Edinburgh way so if someone like Dunfermline or Raith offer him something he may be tempted. KEEP

*Aware that loan players are obviously not ours to keep or release

So next season I’d be hoping to be starting the first league game with a team something like:

New GK, New RB, Stanger, New LB, Murphy. new CM, New CM, Chalmers, Dowds, New striker

Subs- Mutch, Reading, McAllister, McGinty, Dempsey, Syla, McKenzie, Rose, Amartey

TL:DR- Plenty of work for Brown and the club to do 😂

Putting my flak jacket/gilet on for this one.  Rose has been scoring goals, in league 1 granted, but I think he’s worth another go. Goal scorers are so hard to come by and given our track record for signings I'm glass half empty about doing better. Before he went to Hamilton I thought his first game of football was for Ayr but his loan move is proof there is a player there. Worst case scenario we send him back out on loan.

I’m playing devils advocate but Rose scored 5 goals in 3 games (one was a hat trick) but he hasn’t scored in 4 games. Is it possible that this was a purple patch for him and he’s returned to form? I think it will be depending on whether Accies come up whether we do business with them, I can’t see us letting him go if they get promoted.

Listen boys, I'm no everyone's cup of tea on here and that's ok but I found out my granda died just before kick off.  It was him that got me into Ayr, the first game he took me to was a 5-0 win so the boys did something really special for me today.

Really sorry for your loss mate. Glad the super put in a good performance for your granda and also to try and take your mind off it.

I suppose the one thing going for Sanders is that he is relatively young for a centre half - he has only just turned 25 and has not played a lot of football so there should be lots of development in him.

There is definitely something there - he can look good on the ball and be dominant. We have just seen too much of the other side of him.

I don’t think he’s been great but given where he’s came from there seems to be a constant target on his back with fans ready to jump on it.

Eh? An agenda against a player because I didn’t think he did much when he came on? Tap in aside of course.

I make no apologies for not buying into the hype around him. I think he massively flatters to deceive and isn’t worth moving mountains to get him on a permanent deal.

You just always seem to be criticising him. For me he’s a very, very good winger at this level. I highly doubt we’ll get better if he goes in the summer which I suspect he will.

As I’ve said before I’m 100% a card carrying Logan Chalmers fanboy so maybe I’m blinkered.

Done really well to skip past 2 Arbroath players before squaring to Dowds. Thought he looked lively when he came on.

Don’t even bother replying to him. He has some sort of weird agenda against Chalmers.

Overall a very enjoyable performance and result. 6 points clear off 9th with 3 games to go should surely be enough.

    This please 🙂

Aye. A win here and we’re almost home and dry. Would like to see us starting with the 3 of Chalmers, Amartey and Murphy. Would probably swap Amartey and Murphy about though.

Not sure I agree with dropping Chalmers. Think he scored and played well the last time we faced Arbroath.

Aye, Chalmers is a confidence player. He wasn’t great on Tuesday night but don’t think dropping him at this stage of the season is correct thing to do particularly if we’re hoping to keep him.

  9. It just seems to me like we’re going to repeat the exact mistakes we have the past couple of close seasons. Re-signing players that aren’t good enough or deserving off another contract. I was quite excited with the appointment off Brown as didn’t think he would take any nonsense from Mathie and co however seems he is another yes man. If we’re serious about being anything other than a team circling the drain of the championship then we simply need to get our refruitment spot on in the summer. That doesn’t include re-signing players  like McAllister and Reading.

Fair play on your heartfelt advice SM, you're obviously well-versed in such matters. But since I'm an innocent Ayrshire laddie (Girvan) I have no clue what ye're on aboot. My last sauna was in Finland (a wee lassie called Sanna, another story for another day), my only 'OnlyFans' involvement is my monthly MCT contribution, and my only knowledge  of any 'Golden Showers' is when Simon Cowell presses that big f**k-off button to propel his latest victim to 5-minute glory followed by long-term oblivion. As said - fair play lad.

Kind regards from Somerset Park. (I'm the one wearing the blue & white hat).

Dumfries and Galloway in my eyes. A complete hovel

Making the same noises that Mullen did last year. Be nice if one of our local journalists did some of these types of interviews rather than the baw-tickling they normally churn out.

We should be in pole position to sign Chalmers, but we wont. He'll be at another Championship team next year.

Aye I suspect the same. Fully expect him to be lining up for Raith next season. Closer to home and a really ambitious club on the park.

Alarm bells will definately be ringing if he goes elsewhere in the division as it will show our best players aren’t buying into the clubs/Browns ambitions.

  12. Quote from Chalmers in the Courier:

“At the end of the season my contract is done at Dundee Utd, then I’ll be with no-one until the next team I sign for,” he said.

“Right now, I’m focussed on Ayr. I think everyone knows how much I’ve enjoyed my time at Ayr, and whether my future is here long term, or this is my last few games, I’m not sure myself. “But I’ve enjoyed it under the old gaffer (Lee Bullen) and the new one (Scott Brown) as well.
