I'm assuming Dykes and Hendry are injured?

Have you never looked at past results?
I have in the past yeah
But I don't have as much time to watch or keep up with football before for a a lot of reasons / family / health / and others - but yeah - I know about Scotland only beating Zaire 2 - 0 in the 70's (I think) where we went out because we never scored enough against them when the 2 other teams did
Some past results I have read, some I have not and probably won't have the time to anymore

Apologies for the sarcasm. Am getting p***kly ahead of Friday. Sorry.
Apology accepted
I never knew Scotland were in a world cup group with Costa Rica before but I was born in 1993 so wouldn't know

no, it was about 20 years before that in 1990, when everyone -Scottish fans and media alike - had written them off as Group fodder on account of them being World Cup virgins. They turned out to be tactically miles ahead of us. I should know...i was at the game. More uninformed comments welcome, please.
I thought you were referring to the defeat at Hampden a few years ago
No need to be a dick.

Not really. If we lose 1-0 would anyone be surprised? Not really. We've seen it all before many times. Costa Rica anyone? Remember those diddies? Cheer up ffs.
Is this the same Costa Rica team who got to the quarter finals of the last world cup?

Steven Naismith retired from football last week, so I'd certainly be surprised to see him back in the Scotland squad.
Oh right, I never knew lol. I always liked Naismith in a Scotland top, was very good player

I genuinely think that there will be a few players who announce their retirement
Craig Gordon and David Marshall are both in their late 30's. Marshall has 47 caps though so can see him staying on for another campaign to get to the 50 mark
The goalkeeper situation is worrying though overall, all 3 of the goalies in the final squad are in their 30's and I can't think of a young keeper that is looking to break into the Scotland pool. We have been blessed having 3 really good keepers in Gordon, McGregor AND Marshall the last 15 years but we need to look to the future
Declan Gallagher is also 30ish I think
Though not in the squad I can't see players like Considine, Steven Naismith, Shinnie, Bannan, Phillips, Russell ever getting getting in the squad again
Also with the emergence of Turnbull and Gilmour I can't see John Fleck getting another game especially as Kenny McLean and Ryan Jack will return
I hope that we can breed some young new players in now, but I am deeply concerned with keeper situation as Gordon and Marshall can't go on forever, and McLaughlin is no spring chicken either. It will be interesting.

Typical we lose one of our best players

C'mon Scotland. I'm 28 so don't really remember 1998, so looking forward to this. We can do it.

Looks like we’re going with the starting line-up for the Czech game then?
Maybe
I think Hendry and Cooper are better options than Hanley and Gallagher
1 -
Marshall
O' Donnell Hanley Gallagher Tierney Robertson
McTominay McGinn McGregor
Dykes Adams
3 -
Marshall
O'Donnell McTominay Hanley McKenna Taylor
McGinn Gilmour Turnbull
Adams Fraser

With all the pull outs due to covid I would play
Gordon
Tierney McTominay Cooper Robertson
Gilmour McGregor
Armstrong Turnbull Christie
Dykes
Edited - I thought Marshall was still in the team but he is not

out of interest, what happened with matt phillips? has he chucked scotland or just been dumped by clarke for being shit?
He's getting on a bit - he's in his 30's now - I never really rated him tbh

He’s been pretty miserable tbh past few games by his standards. Strangely he looks fit enough when peeling off defenders but his touch seems to have deserted him, something I thought I would never say.
I agree - but he still has something that no other player has - the skill to score out of nothing

Also have a feeling Calum Paterson may go instead of Palmer - Paterson can cover right back and striker

STRIKERS
This position had alot more diverse opinions. 3 players make the cut, but 7 voted for. Lawrence Shankland coming closest, he promised alot on his return to the Premiership but for the most part he failed to deliver, a few goals but not many, arguably crucified by Mellonball, arguably not actually that good, needs a move imo, probably would be a small step to a Hibs/Hearts/Aberdeen if he does go aswell, can't see them getting big bucks for him anymore.
Callum Paterson grabbed a few votes, in honesty, I don't really get it, always looks so clumsy, like a rugby player trying to play football, scored a few for Sheffield Wednesday but they also went down, would rather have a Gauld/Turnbull/Forrest on our bench than this fella.
Leigh Griffiths only took 3, if you were asking me I'd be taking him purely for his ability to do the unthinkable, poor season, lack of fitness but he still has that left peg. Get him on the plane imo.
Oliver Burke took 2 votes, I do get it, someone fast to come off the bench and rustle up aging defenders, aye I do get it but he also is likely to go through on goal and then dribble the ball straight into the keepers hands.
1 vote for Oli McBurnie, probably would have had more and would be in the squad if he hadn't got injured, enough's been said about him and he's either a huddy or his time will come depending on who you ask, after the Slovakia game where he nearly scored a few times I thought we'd get a tune out of him eventually but I'm losing hope.
Che Adams - The man, the myth, the legend? Quite simply our best striker, a big thing us convincing him to play for us, superb performance in Israel from him, he'll be there.
Lyndon Dykes - The wee wife shagger will be there, his form has really dropped since November but he was instrumental in getting us there and the nation love him. Club form has been patchy but he will really ruffle up defenders.
Kevin Nisbet - The wildcard spot, had a superb season and I've had the pleasure of seeing most of it, a clever player who can link up really well and has a great eye for goal, superb finisher. Would be glad to see him there and don't see any harm, his performance against the Faroes wasn't great but his recent form is probably enough to see him get in ahead of Shankland and co.
Final Squad
David Marshall, Craig Gordon, John McLaughlin
Kieran Tierney, Andy Robertson, Grant Hanley, Scott McKenna, Liam Cooper, Declan Gallagher, Jack Hendry, Stephen O'Donnell, Liam Palmer
John McGinn, Calum McGregor, Scott McTominay, Billy Gilmour, John Fleck
Ryan Christie, Stuart Armstrong, Ryan Fraser, James Forrest, David Turnbull, Ryan Gauld
Lyndon Dykes, Che Adams, Kevin Nisbet
If Clarke chooses this squad I'd be pretty happy with it - tempted to take Griffiths but would understand if he doesn't go
Mclean and Jack are very unlucky with the injuries - both would have went

Henshaw and Furlong would be in
I agree
Furlong is better than Fagerson - I like Fagerson but Furlong is better
Henshaw is a great player

So we got 8 in then. More than I expected. A few real shockers in there though. Johnny Hill? Bundee Aki? Only two scrum halves?
there are 3 scrum halves
Ali Price, Gareth Davies and Connor Murray

He had a fairly beige 6 Nations and made some incredibly dumb decisions, but there’s far more to be confused about than him. If you were going for one Scot to mouth off at, on face value, Chris Harris seems to be more highly rated than his performances merit. “Defensively excellent centre” is a nebulous concept.
Harris fully deserves to go - I watch him in the Premiership and he good at attacking too - very good player

What are peoples thoughts on a 23 test team from the 37 named today
I would go 1. Sutherland, 2. George, 3. Furlong, 4. Henderson, 5. Wyn Jones, 6. Beirne, 7. Watson, 8. Simmonds, 9. Murray, 10. Russell, 11. Watson, 12. Henshaw, 13. Harris, 14. Williams, 15. Hogg. 16. Owens, 17. Jones, 18. Fagerson, 19. Itoje, 20. Curry, 21. Price, 22. Farrell (if he picks up form), 23. Daly
I would imagine the 9 and 10 combo will depend on who starts at fly half - if Russell then Price and if Biggar then Murray
The 3 Scottish players unlucky to lose out are Gray, Ritchie and Maitland

I can't help but think Burke (Oliver) might be a useful wildcard. Just feels like the big, flailing moron will get lucky and do us a turn, maybe as a late sub.
I also felt that way about McBurnie - tho he's more of a controlled moron.I forgot about Oli Burke - I think he may go - good shout
I have a question - is James Forrest still out? - I have not saw him for ages?
