Accies have said our home game against Sevco will only be available to international viewers. Don’t know if any other clubs have followed suit on that after the chat on here about virtual season tickets and games on tv etc.

The VST thing is linked directly to STs. It's explicitly referenced in a section from page 101 of the 20/21 SPFL Rules.

Presumably if Accies aren't doing Season Tickets this season it fucks them up in terms of able to broadcast the Sky games.

I don't want to go all MJC, but is it just me who's worried that we might be getting a bit too cocky here?

"Higdon season"; "Cup Final"; "Europa group stages". Next thing you know we'll be getting Rachel Riley in to do the half-time draws.

For avoidance of doubt, I wasn't being entirely serious with the "Tony Watt to have a Higdon season" comment.

Will he be welcomed back? Seemed a lot of anger towards him when he joined Sevco.

Depends really. There's a lot of foaming at the mouth in the Twitter replies but a lot of that is from folk who seem to have perma-rage issues.

The P&B 'well fans definitely aren't representative of the fanbase as a whole but the majority of posts on our thread are absolutely fine with him coming back. Ultimately Motherwell and Hastie are the ones who have won from that particular transfer - we got £350k as a lump sum, he got a 4 year contract on daft wages for someone who had been out on loan at Alloa 6 months previously.

If he comes back, scores some goals and we're winning games I'd think folk will largely keep quiet.

I see Grant Russell on twitter has just confirmed this will be our central social media piece throughout the season with the more short form content derived from it.

Think it’s a really good idea. As you say YouTube is the perfect platform for this longer form stuff with shorter, snappier things more appropriate for Twitter.

    Definitely.

I've mentioned it before but the interview GR did with the Scottish Football Marketing Podcast was an interesting listen (in an incredibly niche/nerdy way).

IIRC he mentioned that YT was a platform they were still trying to work out and were planning on trying to make more of it. When you start thinking about the analytics side of things and how that seems to be shaping strategy at the club it's actually quite encouraging to hear people like Grant and Flow openly discussing the thinking behind all that.

The one they did with Flow is here.

Really enjoying these weekly updates. A good addition to the #content bank.

Wonder if the plan is to keep them up throughout the season and weave in highlights and post match reaction or if this is just a pre season/back to training thing.

Based on the description below it looks like that's what they're planning on doing.

YouTube's the ideal platform for a weekly digest of this sort of stuff. So far the pacing has been good in that I don't think any of the videos have really dragged so if they're able to keep the content varied enough it should be pretty interesting to see what sort of scope they have.

    Leslie Deans statement on kickback...............

“My thoughts on the case itself now follow.

Hearts case is currently no stronger or no weaker than it was yesterday morning. Depending on what the recovery of documents divulges it could be about to strengthen. At this stage , It's hard to say. The potential benefit of the disclosures from these documents has been eloquently spelt out by others. The crux of the matter is convincing the arbitration tribunal that we have suffered unfair prejudice. I believe it is crystal clear that we have , but we need to convince the tribunal. Do this and we should succeed.
I am aware that some people would like to see me on the Arbitration tribunal. Whilst I would be flattered to be invited I would decline any such invitation. Given my loyalties it simply would not sit right with me.

Finally, The analysis and incisive comment from many posters about the case on Kickback has been first class, Far above the quality of comments from the vast majority of the Scottish media. The guys concerned are a credit to our club. I know their contributions and opinions are noted and valued at a high level.

To misquote Churchill, this is not the end but may be the beginning of the end. But can the arbitration panel conclude matters and issue its decision by August 1 ? And if not, will they order a delay to the start of the premier league ? And if their findings are appealed back to the Court of Session on a point of law, a delayed start to the league looks inevitable.

You have to hope that all hidden documents, emails etc are provided quickly and fully by the SPFL and that all those involved, Doncaster, Nelms etc are ordered to appear for QC led cross examination at the tribunal. It is just unfortunate that the legitimate public interest will not be served by it all taking place behind closed doors.

And what is all this going to cost? All because SPFL could not devise a " no harm" strategy at the outset.

    Les."

All other clubs, apart from hearts, would have no problem with 12-12-10-10

Budge was only interested in hearts staying in premiership. She has no interest in any other club.

Only hearts as they now say.........

I mean, it would be pretty naive to expect Hearts to draft and support a proposal like that but - I'm happy to be corrected here - there was nothing to stop other member clubs putting forward a more workable alternative to whatever Budge was trying (and failing) to sell.

We probably should have looked at 12-12-10-10 as an option, but I’d guess it would still have met opposition as it would be splitting the prize money 44 ways instead of 42, and especially from League One clubs who would lose the gate money from Thistle and Falkirk.

I’d assume it would have been closer to passing than the 14-10-10-10 model, particularly because it wouldn’t have seen Budge in the media vociferously trying to tell everyone how to vote every day, but still not sure it would have passed. We definitely should have thrown the idea out though... and maybe we did, but have never heard it mentioned.

I'd have thought 12-12-10-10 would have removed the obvious stumbling block of the 11-1 supermajority at Premiership level since it doesn't really impact them much (or at all - number of fixtures stay the same, there's no change to play-off/relegation configuration, prize money stays the same, relegation risk stays the same). It wouldn't have been much of a surprise if the Premiership clubs would have looked at that shrugged and waved it through. It seems far more palatable compared to some of the stuff Budge was suggesting.

Remove that issue and I'd have thought it'd become a bit more manageable politically - obviously it'd need Hearts to take one for the team but looking at the drop in prize money (based on 18/19) from 10th in Championship to 1st and 2nd in League 1 it's £175k for 10th, £125k for 1st and £107.5k for 2nd - compare that with the drop off from £1.125m for 12th in the Premiership to £475k for 2nd in the Championship which is where a lot of the 'kEep Teh PriZe MoNey teH sAmE' shouts fell down.

Bringing another 2 teams in to League 2 might have cost an extra £80k-£100k in prize money. Again, that seems like it'd have been doable. I mean clubs and the SPFL have probably run up a bill close to that already in litigation.

Ultimately I don't think it was ever mentioned because this whole shitshow has been driven by Budge to the point that she was handed a "task force" to come up with viable solutions and Hearts being relegated didn't suit her so...f**k considering a solution that suited the vast majority of clubs.

I've noticed a lot of posters saying that they're expecting one of our midfielders (Campbell being the one most touted) to be sold in the near future but no-one has really expanded on why they think that.

Just wondered what everyone's reasoning behind it is as we SEEM to be on a sound footing financially and operating within budgets as far as I can see.

I suppose part of the expectation comes from knowing part of our business model is focussed on player trading so while me may not need to sell in the way we were when McCormack, Murphy and Reynolds were moved on it's viewed as desirable because it's an element of the whole project and sales pitch: Come to Motherwell and we'll offer you a platform and help develop your career.

Campbell's in the position where he's got a year left on his contract but would be protected by development compensation. You'd think we'd be mindful of what happened less so with Hastie but more so with Cadden in terms of that scenario.

Also (and sort of related), as @Ron Aldo says...Gillespie to Newcastle on a shree year deal official. Absolutely fair fucks.

Aye I think that's the crux of it. Feels like you've had a list of targets (largely fairly obvious ones tbf) and just gone out and got them. Whether that's maybe a bit risky financially, or if they are counting on making a sale, or if maybe just they're confident they have the cash, is the only concern.

I don't have an in depth knowledge of our finances but I've a feeling this is probably an example of our business model working in our favour.

AFAIK we generally run with one of the lower budgets in the league...essentially we budget based on finishing 10th. Clearly last season we finished 3rd* and we also sold James Scott to Hull for £1m rising to a potential £1.5m - that's along with a couple of Academy sales to Leeds and Norwich last summer.

It's back of a fag packet sort of numbers but roughly with prize money and player sales that's £2m-ish income we probably didn't budget for.

Also, the way the squad's been built at the moment; we released 7 players and 3 loans returned to their parent clubs so that's 10 bodies out with 5 in plus the Hastie loan and 5 extended deals of which Dunne will presumably on significantly less than his previous contract given his injuries.

I don't think it'd be too outrageous to suggest that on the whole the players who have come in will be in line with the budget we have available. I mean I have no doubt our budget's tight but given the fan ownership business we don't really have a safety net to run a risk.

The interesting part for me is that almost all our recruitment - barring McGinley - has seen players coming in who are known quantities and as @YassinMoutaouakil pointed out are relatively local. Even McGinley had previously worked with our Head of Sports Science when they were both at Boro.

It's a pretty notable shift away from our brand  of trawling the English lower leagues:

    • Ricki Lamie - Tony Watt's best pal & former team mate of Declan Gallagher,
    • Jordan White - played with Gallagher at Livi,
    • Scott Fox - worked with our GK coach at Thistle and at Celtic around the same time as Gallagher
    • Nathan McGinley - at Boro with Andy Boles
    • Mark O'Hara - was on loan last season
    • Jake Hastie - well...it's fair to say we're aware of him
