Regardless of whether independence happens or not, the polarisation of the Scottish parliament down those constitutional lines negates any attempts at compromise 'across the isle'

So the queation of where you find someone willing to vote with the SNP even if they agree on the principle of the motion being voted for, remains open.

Maybe best to just let that situation continue to play out publicly in the next 2 years. Then the electorate can decide the rights and wrongs of it. The issue will be if the public return the same sort of situation in 2026. I suppose eventually we’ll get sick of it and change our voting habits.

2007 is a long time ago. The constitutional question has sunk any prospect of using the Tories or LDs to get a budget through. Even in those days Labour would demand and get budget concessions and still not vote for the bloody thing because the Bain principle is still the organising principle by which the Branch Office live.

Using the Greens to prop themselves up will appeal to some ‘Progessive’ people, but I wonder how it will play with the electorate? Going on this current Parliament session, doesn’t look like it’ll go very well at all. The Greens are not for me anymore. Definitely not getting my unthinking ‘awww they like the environment and are pretty harmless’ list vote for the foreseeable.

Independence isn’t happening, so competent government is what people are after. Even that is probably a pipe dream these days.

As for the scaremongering about minority government. The SNP governed just fine from 2007 to 2011 as a very small minority government. It means compromise and working with the other parties. That isn't something to be feart of it may well improve things.

It was on the back of that period that they won a majority of seats.

Last league game.  Been a good season (with the exception of a few against Arbroath and Airdrie).  Looking forward to the playoffs, getting to the final.  However I think the premier team will be too strong for us over 2 legs to be appearing in FIFA 25.
Not too disappointed though as the Championship is by far the best league in Scotland.  Hate the Premier and its self preservation attitudes.  If we get there, fine.  I'll 'put up with it'. :D

For the younger generation, being able to select Rovers in FIFA is what it’s all about. Make it happen Rovers.

You’ve a real bee 🐝 in your bonnet about those pesky incels.

    Is Incelphobia a thing?

The Free Church with an average attendance of 8,000 is steeped in the past and it's core beliefs are well out of kilter within a modern Scotland, especially with the young, but there is no denying that Kate Forbes is a forceful capable intelligent woman, however her adherence to the Free Church social disciplines would not see her in any way popular with the majority.

But with John Swinney popular with the membership he will be FM but I bet that Kate Forbes will figure in his cabinet.

And there is a tough mean streak in Swinney that the membership is well aware of.

    The majority of what?

How many of the electorate are heavily into politics? That majority will just think she’s a nice enough wee lassie.

  8. On Kate Forbes, all I can remember about her is that she looked young and struggled to walk in high heels. I’m assuming she is small and some stylist wanted to make her look bigger. That could be a big assumption, but going by Sturgeon’s various looks I’m assuming she had a stylist.

I’m not religious but the fact that she’s churchy likely isn’t the kryptonite it is to some folk on here. I’m assuming Humza was religious and that didn’t seem to bother folk on here. Religious types are one of the minority groups who find the time to get involved with politics.

The 2014 independence vote and the years after strongly motivated the under 25s in a political and pro independence way. The last couple of years have set that back a fair bit and whoever comes in needs to work on this group again. On Forbes I think  there is a general higher awareness of social issues such as anti LBGT and other anti discrimination amongst young people nowadays and Forbes beliefs will not appeal to them.

Maybe she’ll appeal to the 18-30 young white men who the hate monster is worried about?

Absolutely no one bald. Whoever gets the job needs to have a magnificent head of lustrous hair.

And no one who cares more about the weird idealists that the concerns of actual voters.

Did you see the photo of the 6 likely candidates that the BBC News came up with. Three reasonably attractive women and three bald men. If it’s a man, he’ll be bald.

The SNP's biggest mid/long term strategic challenge isn't winning over Tory voters, it's making sure young voters don't drift away. Recent polls have shown they are weakest in over 65s (the Tories they'll never win over) and under 25s (who are being tempted by Labour as they've never experienced a Labour gov before). Forbes tanks the under 25 vote further and long term makes independence less likely.

I don’t imagine the last few years have helped the cause of independence much. Maybe 2015 was a high-water mark for the independence movement.

I’ll be interested to see if ‘Yes’ will ever manage to get more than 50% of the pensioner vote. It’s a key vote given they are more likely to vote and people are supposedly living longer, but it’s a time of life where a lot of people are likely thinking ‘I don’t need this grief.’

On the Under 25s vote, if that’s not a strong ‘Yes’, then thoughts of independence are done for the time being. It’s not really a surprise as the benefits of independence have hardly been mentioned by the SNP for 10 years. Maybe because it doesn’t fit with the climate change thing, and because they haven’t decided what their key message is now that oil and gas are not to be mentioned.

Humza Yousaf’s government passed a law that says that no one under the age of 18 can be put in a prison/young offenders institute even if they commit murder, rape etc. One of the most horrific calculated acts ive ever known was committed by someone who at 16 under this legislation wouldn’t be in a prison or YOI to keep the public safe despite showing no remorse and clear attempts to hide the crime, unspeakable evil, Natalie Don, the childrens minister stood up in parliament and boasted about this. Its also now ‘being in conflict with the law’ instead of being involved in criminality. There are legal loopholes which the government is aware of in other acts which they ignore, despite again them putting the public at risk.

The policies of this SNP government and the performance of the SNP at all levels (except id argue at Westminster where Flynn seems to do a good job) are failing the public, they don’t learn from mistakes, they double down, things arent getting better, under them for the last 17 years, the NHS is failing, legal system broken, the ferry fiasco, honestly we need a break from them.

I agree the SNP are a leftie shambles, even worse with the Greens involved.

Will there actually be an election or will we just get the likes of Swinney for the next couple of years?

If not the SNP, which party is best equipped to run the country?

The sensible approach would be "Give it Swinnsy til end of season" so I fully expect them to do something insane.

Give it Swinnsy getting mentioned on TV there. Not very inspiring stuff. Two more years of treading water with a grey wee man who the SNP got bored with last time he was leader. Yawn.

Do they have to wait until 2026 for the next Holyrood election to blow away the cobwebs?

Same.  I think I'll sit out the old voting for a decade or too.  All the parties up here are all either fucking useless (SNP, Greens), genital inspecting weirdos (Alba) or Unionist, Butcher's Apron flying, bootlicking cuck scum (Tories, Labour, Lib Dem).

Give the Unionist, Butcher’s Apron flying, bootlicking cuck scum a chance at running things?
