  1. I'm assuming he has been released as he was out of contract & as far as I know wasn't offererd a new deal.
  2. I remember buying a couple issues back in Ally McLeods time as manager. Sadly these are now long gone. I'd certainly be interested in reading some of these issues again..
  3. Seemed to divide opinion a bit. Some I know thought he lacked interest. I personally thought he shown good movement & when provided with proper service he knew where the goals were.
  4. Were you the bespectacled gentleman who was standing in the office? Edited to add: On the Homer debate, it is unfair to say that he lacks talent. When he has the ball he is effective at bringing others into play & creating chances for others. It's unfortunate that he has the mobility of a car with no engine. As others have said this is hardly likely to improve with age. Unfortunate also that his height served to encourage the long ball when he was more effective with a ball at chest height or lower. I wouldn't be totally against his return as he has many positive attributes. Just think it is never a good thing to go back. On a personal level, I met him at M&D's last July (just before he signed with Airdrie) & had a long and interesting chat. Could hardly meet a nicer guy.
  5. Soon to be new club shop too. Was over at Palmerston at lunchtime renewing season ticket & witnessed the work in progress, on part of the old Tesco buliding.
  6. I'm delighted with the signing of Robinson. He had an excellent season for us last season & I think there is more to come from him. Higgins & McGuffie were consistent performers who will undoubtedly play an important part next season.
  7. If we can't retain Robinson then David Hutton would be good alternative. Didn't work out for him at Hamilton, some players just aren't suited to some clubs. This does not make him a bad keeper. He also represented the 1st keeper since Colin Scott that I had complete confidence in.
  8. As we have yet to see anything confirmed, I will treat this as pure speculation. I would say though, that I would be sad to see Robinson go. He has been good for us, just as we have been good for him. One of the few that gave it everything every game, there are far worse keepers out there.
  9. Sandy Clark is a good appointment. A wealth of experience which I am sure will be put to use. Like some other posters I have a feeling that this will see his son stay. Hopefully not! Pleased with the days other signings. Things are beginning to move along quite nicely. Just need Robinson, Higgins & McGuffie to resign & we will have the nucleus of a good sqaud there.
  10. Not altogether surprised by this, as it is something I always felt was on the cards. I was pleased with the appointment, however for various reasons it hasn't worked out. These things happen, it wasn't meant to be & I would wish both Gus McPherson & Andy Millen the best for the future. However we are left now without a manager and one fixture left to play. I have a feeling that Allan Johnston will take temporary charge for this game. Although I do not advocate rushing to a decision it is imperative that the board make an appointment as soon as possible, so that the new man has a decent period of time to assess his options. At any rate we must avoid the farce that was last pre-season.
  11. Don't think either would bring any sizeable support through although Annan may bring a greater number initially due to the novelty factor. Part of me is almost resigned to relegation & trips to Gayfield & Glebe Park next season (no disrespect to either club). This has been brought on by the realisation that there is no funds to strengthen in January & this current sqaud doesn't care enough to try and improve our situation. There is a bit of groundhog day about the 1st division & relegation for all it is soul destroying would at least be a change of scenery. Finally Gus McPherson's quote about Stephen Simmons was laughable. The way in which he disappears during games is miraculous. Lucky if he touched the ball a dozen times last weekend.
  12. Can only echo the sentiments of a number of previous posters. A large part of our problems thus far have came about through changing systems every week. A back 3 against an effcient attacking team like Dundee would be laughable if it were not so serious. We don't have the players to be able to change systems every week. Play a good old 4-4-2 every week & be done with it.
  13. I'd agree with this. No David Hutton, and while not the best in the league he most certainly is not hopeless. He's keen & has an eye for a potential quick breakaway. Badly at fault for Morton's 2nd yesterday but he will know that himself. Over the piece he has been good for us so far this season & I won't be giving him stick on the back of one bad mistake.
  14. With the amount of late goals we are losing (most down to silly individual errors) I don't blame the manager. I do though question the teams attitude as a collective unit. I have the cure for this here. Forget training Monday. Get them in for double laps of Strathclyde Park tomorrow morning at 0900hrs. If any of them complain, make them do it again. Time to get tough with over privelaged professional players & show them how easy they actually have it. Have the promise of this as a repetition of on hand for next time their minds wander. Perhaps then they will focus on the job in hand for the whole game. While I'm on the subject we should ban silly haircuts & multi coulored boots. In my team there would be black boots only. And no listening to I-Pods and such like on team buses. They are professionals, time they started acting like it.
  15. I remember that game. Midway through the 2nd half of the most boring 0-0 ever. Streaker was the solitary highlight of the game.
  16. Fast but lacks stamina, strength & the ability to take people on. He's fine so long as there's no defender in front of him. Lacks composure in front of goal, often snatching at shots; but can score his share of goals. Be fine for Falkirk so long as Pressley isn't thinking of playing him as a winger.
  17. I remember Barney Davidson too. Good goalkeeper if a bit unorthodox on occasion. However Davidson, Hutton & Robinson belong in different era's so not sure that a comparison really stands up. Back on subject though, I am fairly happy that Lee Robinson has signed up. His positioning lets him down on occasion & for me he could do with more of a physical presence. Good command of his box & good kicker. I particularly like the way he quickly spots the man in space & gets the ball to him. We could have done a lot worse!
  18. If wikipedia told me today was Sunday I would check a calander. I for one would hope that Ross Hyslop isn't signed. He is hopeless & suffers from what is a major deficiency for a goalkeeper...he can't catch a ball If the trialist goalkeeper released by Falkirk is Jamie Barclay I would again be concerned. He is pretty hopeless too!
  19. Good goalkeepers are not "two - a - penny". If we don't watch out we are going to be left with a complete diddy! The thought of another McKenzie to be honest scares me. I thought the notion that goalkeepers are unfit died out years ago, a totally different kind of fitness is needed to be a keeper.
  20. Derek Holmes I am sure would be effective in the 2nd division. You like him or you hate him, he's like Marmite in that respect. I was never his greatest fan but he done a job for us. Can hold a ball up & has a good first touch. Just don't expect him to run about daft or jump! Can't be regarded as a prolific goalscorer, as SD has said above he had a decent return in his 1st season with us although it didn't happen last season. All things considered I am surprised also that a bigger side than Airdrie hasn't looked at him.
  21. It is obvious that you know nothing of the art of goalkeeping!
  22. Yes, a steady reliable goalkeeper. The first we've had since Colin Scott that doesn't induce synchronised heart attacks everytime a ball comes near him! I'm disappointed we haven't hung on to him. Not the greatest at commanding his box but that's a common failing among goalkeepers these days. Does everything else well enough.
