A lazy assumption I know, but I thought Carvalho was Portuguese.

Not lazy - he was born in Portugal, played for Benfica, moved to England when 11 years old, played for England's 16s, 17s & 18s, before picking up 4 Portugal 21s caps this year. I think that again makes him Portuguese, but could be wrong.

I'm the opposite - 135 minutes of turgid shit and a paper thin storyline. This is Peele's '1941' - an utter turkey of a film.

I’m with you - utter shite after great Get Out and passable Us. 2/10, but only to keep it above Lady in the Van, which saw us walk out. Even with Cineworld Unlimited, we were very tempted today!

If you'd watched the video you would know it was a push and I am correct.

You should probably rewatch the second penalty then get your eyes checked if you still think that was an attempt to get the ball.

The Linlithgow penalty was not denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity so none of the previous discussion applies, no sanction required.

You’re right, I haven’t watched the vid. Your 2 options therefore needed a 3rd - the ref considered it was DOGSO, but that the challenge was genuine and so yellow carded.
Albeit if it it was a push, that would probably be wrong!

    There's only two options, either:

the ref thought it was DOGSO and was therefore incorrect in law by only giving a YC, or:

the ref didn't think it was DOGSO (a matter of opinion) and therefore was correct in law by only giving a YC.

Despite not being in control of the ball I would say it probably was DOGSO, so it should've been a RC.

The partial removal of ‘double jeopardy’ completely changed things, so you are wrong. Inside the box, a penalty is given and if it was a genuine attempt to play the ball, then it’s only a yellow, even if it was DOGSO. Only if it was not a genuine attempt to play the ball is it still a DOGSO red. So for instance push, pull etc.. Any DOGSO where a penalty doesn’t result (so foul outside the box) is still a red, regardless of whether a genuine attempt or not.

Wonder what it was that UEFA & the French police did so smoothly at the Real Madrid end of the stadium that they couldn't do at the Liverpool end ?

They didn’t compress the fans into a ridiculously small space - we got there just after 6:30 (2:30 before KO) - after the problems had started where the LFC main crowd were. As Liverpool fans, we were supposed to use the local railway to get there, while Madrid fans were to use the Metro. We were VERY lucky we took the non suggested route, we strolled into the concourse and were through the gates quickly, with no issues encountered and blissfully unaware of what was going on elsewhere. Only once kick off neared and we couldn’t understand why there were so few in the Liverpool end and then heard social media reports. While there probably were fake paper tickets, I doubt that caused the problems - it’s pretty clear from their setup that the police were spoiling for a confrontation with the English. Fortunately the LFC fans didn’t respond to their treatment.

Take it back 2 or 3 frames - at the point of delivery. He's onside then and ⬆️ imho. 2 legitimate goals, none given! This is not a witch-hunt against referees and AR's, but they must do better.

Totally agree! If he was onside 3 frames prior then clearly the lino should have clocked that! At 60fps that’s a whole 20th of a second.

Haven't read the full thread so apologies if it's been covered. I thought the handball before a goal thing had changed? I thought it had to be the person who scored who handled it? They spoke about this on Football Weekly Podcast after the Chelsea game or is this just a Premier League rule?

You’re correct if it’s completely accidental - that was changed at the start of this season. However if it’s intentional (it didn’t look like it!) or the arm is in an unnatural position (debatable) the handball is still given.

I thought they had done away with straight reds for last man fouls as the penalty was seen as punishment enough if it was a genuine attempt to get the ball.

No - if it’s not a genuine attempt to play the ball, it’s still a red. Despite what McCoist says on the telly, it wasn’t and the ref was correct.

And talking about McCoist - both him and the commentator are probably correct re the goal disallowed for handball - it didn’t appear either deliberate or with the arm in an unnatural position. At the start of this season, disallowing a goal because of an accidental handball in the leadup was tweaked to only relate to the scorer. The ref probably got this one wrong.

Did i say that? I said it wasn't a red.

The keeper's glove might have brushed his face. Not enough to roll about like he did.

Probably should have been a yellow for the keeper.

That’s big of you, considering you think the glove ‘might’ have brushed Diaz’ face and he’s a cheat. Maybe turn down whatever bias you’re applying and perhaps see what commentators, pundits, Walton and everyone else here saw? It was a red every day of the week.

If Jota had had any chance of still getting the ball, it’d be a definite penalty.

But he didn’t. So it isn’t.

Irrelevant! If the ball is in play, anywhere, and a forward is fouled in the opposition penalty area, it’s a penalty. Doesn’t matter where the ball is - it could even be on the goal line at the other end.

That doesn’t mean I think it was a foul though and I’m a Liverpool supporter!

Blatant dive from Dele there not even close to being a penalty, have no idea about the hand ball I thought if it hit your hand at all in the build up to a goal it didn't count, assume this has changed at some point.

It has changed - now only comes into play, if goal scored immediately, which wasn’t the case here

English refs are a complete joke. They are meant to be full time but it has somehow lead to even less professionalism and accountability.

Just go week to week making up complete piss with no reprecussions

You’re presumably including the ‘head knock’ scenario in that criticism? Eddie Howe saying his player was dizzy for 4 minutes - that’s the player who wasn’t subbed! Oldest trick in the book is to go down ‘ref head knock’ when you’re narrowly ahead and the opposition have a promising attacking situation. Yes, I’m surprised he didn’t stop it, but that doesn’t make it wrong!

Thought the first one was a penalty. Not sure about the second as the ref was 5 yards away and overruled by an asst 30 yards away but more importantly the ball hit the ref in the build up but he didnt stop play despite doing so when it hit him later...

Only has to stop play if possession changes or a scoring opportunity is created because of his touch. Was it either of those?

Look at the player coming in remember it's at pace and it's probably only because of the distance stops him from going into him so what does he do just get his leg broken just because it suits your agenda. Duck off

Yeah you’re spot on there - that should clearly have been a red card.

    or...

    That shot tells us nothing.

Oh and my ‘agenda’ - I was there as a neutral. Could be wrong, but it may even have been the first time I’ve seen Dundonald!

    Quack

They can't appeal the decisions but that's 2nd time that refs sent him off. If u look at the photo look at the way the guys coming in. He would have a broken leg if he takes that challenge.

Dundonald only kept doing that because they were getting away with it. Jay was absolutely halfed on the half way line this happened a few times they kicked kyle mowatt as well once as well and because the ref never brought it back to book the players which is dangerous.

They can complain about the ref so that he doesn't ref them again. Camelon did so about Craig Reid a number of years ago and he was banned from reffing Edinburgh United again.

Not sure what relevance the sendings off are, especially if both for 2 yellows? Were you at both games and do you have issue with any of the cards? Can’t recall his first on Saturday, but the second certainly looked like a dive.

Good luck getting Saturday’s ref banned from Camelon or any games! Can’t recall that previous example you gave and  even with an extensive Google (missing out his first name, which may be wrong?) found nowt.

Not sure what photo you’re refereeing to, so a screenshot may be interesting. However the discussions re the onside or offside goal show that angles and distance can lead to inconclusivity.

if you go in close enough you can see sibandas foots on the line. Basically the lino has seen it how journeymans photo saw it. People behind the goals claimed he was onside. I was at the side of the park could see sibanda was standing on the line and the evidence proves it. EIther way we should have defended it better and if they want to take the result as "they should have won" based on the last 15 minutes where we capitulated. That game was heading for a draw until the ref sent Jay off. Twice in a few weeks may i add. Hopefully the club will be making their complaint to the SFA

Out of interest, what would Camelon be complaining to the SFA about? The first or second yellows for Jay, or the non offside for the much discussed goal, or just because the ref’s a skinny ginger?

ETA AFAIK you can’t appeal a yellow?!
