I don’t normally read too much into post match interviews, from any manager. They’re usually full of cliches like “go again next week” or some other guff. Over the couple of post match interviews I’ve seen this evening though, Martindale has said that he’s taking responsibility, whilst at the same time blaming “individual errors”.

I’ve deliberately kept my thoughts on him to myself since he came into the club. I didn’t go over the top with praise for him when we were in the top 6, whilst at the same time admitting that getting us there was an incredible feat. I’ll admit that for me, it’s a personal thing. I don’t like his character, his (alleged) man management methods I can’t stand, and his criminal past repulses me. He didn’t make mistakes - his crimes were deliberate and calculated. I’m aware that I might sound petty or narrow minded in that view but frankly, after today, I don’t give a shit.

That he is still in post is a joke. I know why though - it’s because he’s in control of the lot. Only thing is, he’s in control of something that is wildly out of control.

I know of a number of people who refused to return to the club because of  Martindale's past; whilst others mentioned the like of Alan Lithgow and David Robertson. The problem became more apparent because of our label (now almost forgotten) of being a family club. People were unhappy with bringing their young children to a club where people with such backgrounds held positions of importance.

I found the narcotics history to be a particularly difficult one to deal with but he certainly did seem particularly contrite and regretful of his past. He seemed determined not only to turn his own life around but also to  help as many others as he could.

In the early stages this seemed to work particularly well with the team; many of whom had been through their own struggles; whether personal issues; performance or injury plagued careers - players whose careers had either plateaued or failed to get of the ground.

Of late that particular card seems to have lost its magic. The man who could mold an entire dressing room out of the leftovers of the footballing world does seem to have list the knack.

There are a number though who have never returned to the club; even though we had a couple of seasons with top six finishing our home season ticket sales seem to have rarely exceeded 1,200 which is frankly appalling for a top flight team. I'm not putting that all down to him; a large blame must be carried by the negative press over the years of a number of "colourful characters". Plus our marketing is pretty poor.

Pretty much every football manager (other than Alex Ferguson) has a shelf life after which they need to move on. Its becoming increasingly apparent this is David Martindale's time. It is probably right for him as well as the club that he looks to take on another challenge with another club. He's already proved that he can do it on a particularly tight budget and under challenging circumstances so should have no problem getting another appointment.

FFS Durnford.Il have a pint of what your on with respect. You know like 99% of our support we're down.Been good while it lasted, punching above our weight, budgets injuries etc etc.Possibly might take one of those above us down with us,though I doubt it.Planning for next season Paramount.

I was being ironic; although I suspect you already guessed that.

Simply put we either get angry or try to see the humour of the situation; as difficult as that may seem.

One thing surely we can all agree on is that Martindale should now do the decent thing and walk 🤷‍♂️

Ideally that should have happened weeks ago.

I'm not going to start on about what should have happened and what we should have done; certainly not tonight but I must admit I was disappointed to see Martindale in the dugout. I had hoped for some of Hastings/Rice drive or even something different.

Says it all.Livi are down even before the split.Up to the rest to avoid the dreaded 11th spot.Suspect the sheep will somehow avoid.County and St Johnstone will negotiate the playoffs and preserve their respective places in the SPL.Cant see Livi doing the others favours, although they might put a spanner in the works to those involved imo.

    I disagree!

St Johnstone and Ross County are going to lose their remaining games before the break. We will get full points from Celtic and Aberdeen... Its game on....

EDIT - what the hell was in those cookies my son gave me?

  5. A few weeks back I said there was hope because the team were still battling unlike the time we were getting relegated from the SPL. That time the team were totally devoid of ideas; couldn't string two passes together and had no cohesive movement.

At the time I thought there was a difference to the team we had now - the only thing that now seems different are the names. Least-ways Lambert walked last time.

The timing just isn't great especially with all the keep fighting comments and calling players out for not being up for the fight as well.

I will say that I've no idea how hard it is to get onto a course for the pro license. It could be he's been waiting months or years for this and in which case it's more understandable however if it's been booked within the last 6 months then I'd be extremely annoyed.

Not sure if its the same for the Scottish premiership but someone was saying that a manager in the English championship or first division was getting fined £5k per week (or game - not sure which) for not having up-to-date Pro licensing.  Not sure if that the same in Scotland or even, if it is, the level of fine but it might give some explanation.

Cant see anything on the SFA site.

I know he's away doing his pro license but I can't say that I'm best pleased about Martindale's absence for this one.

We were good last weekend but we'll find out if we just upped our game for Celtic or not later this afternoon.

No idea who will be available and what state they will be in due to the sickness bug.

Must admit the timing seems pretty odd particularly after the keep fighting to the end speech. Surely immediately updating one's pro license is only necessary if you're looking for another job?

any update in this? many players affected?

Somebody said there were only about five players fully fit but that was earlier in the week.

As far as I understand this will be a game where Neil Hastings/Brian Rice is in charge whilst Martindale is in Switzerland. Shame we wont have a fully fit side; would be interesting to see the contrast.

Livingston players were told to stay away from the club's stadium on Tuesday due to a sickness bug that was having a major impact on the squad.

Although training resumed on Wednesday, assistant manager Brian Rice says they have no idea who will be available for Saturday's crucial Premiership match away to Hibernian.

“We have had a bug running through the club," Rice said. "[Jason] Holt missed out last weekend because of the bug and it has spread. We shut the club down for the day yesterday.

“We hope to get two or three of them back but right at this time I couldn’t tell who was going to be available and who is not.

“We have four or five off today so it will just be a head count in the next couple of days to see who is available.”

The idea that the average fan needs to personally approach those involved to ask them to clarify the situation is fairly ridiculous. This applies to everyone involved, including Ward and Hogarth.

We could start a new trend - I could walk up to Lord Sainsbury of Turville to ask him why the frozen peas at Sainsburys PLC are more expensive than Aldi's 🤨

  11. 22 minutes ago, The Wrong Car said:

How exactly would fans do this? Should we hang around West Lothian hoping to bump into him? Head over to the Broadwood Motor showroom? Send him a message asking him to explain his motives to each individual fan? Surely the onus is on Hogarth himself, similar to how the onus is on the club (Ward/Black) to speak more?

Out of curiosity - when was the last Fan's Forum? I remember attending ones towards the end of the Massone era, but I'm not sure they were ever a regular thing?

At risk of being accused of 'bias', Ward left April 2019 and returned January 2020. If that's the period being highlighted as good governance by Hogarth/Rankine, the sale of Dykes in August 2020 went a long way to boosting finances.

(If this was in reference to another period, apologies. It's fairly hard to see at which points Rankine was actively involved in the running of the club 😂)

Its not surprising you have trouble identifying Rankine's activities; he appears to have several personas on Companies House, as has Sumner. When registering you're meant to list out your previous and current directorships; seems he and Sumner both forgot to do that. Likewise it seems he has amnesia about his date of birth.

When I first met him almost 15 year ago he reminded me of a bomb site car salesman like we use to see in the fifties and sixties; very much the spiv with the wide awake suit.

Leastways Hogath and Ward managed to perform the relatively simple task of registration without issue.

Christ, give it a rest lads.Normal Livi gadgy. Give your collective observations on the field, not off it.Its tough, but just once, target the team. Some whith respect reasonable arguments here.Dont expect us to stay in this division. That's a debate for another day.Suspect we've reasonable inelegant supporters among us to with respect put collective proserrsions as to how we move forward. Simply put, either put up,or shut up.Sorry once again for the grammar.

Hey - anyone would have thought there was a football match on today or something.

Id take him tbh, but ive wanted him signed since he played for us.

The type of niggly little c**t teams needs.

Nah; you wouldn't be interested. He's really injury prone; scared to make any form of tackle and simply cant be bothered. Also he's a really disruptive figure in the dressing room who rarely turns up sober for training. He's also a really lazy ####!

    Convinced?

I'm presuming Sangare may have a relegation release clause. He'd be a good option, if used correctly, however may fancy his chances in the English lower leagues

Holt seems like the sort of player who could kick about the Premiership for a few more years on 1 & 2 year deals, before moving to the Championship in 4/5 years time. If he's happy to stay, and it makes financial sense for everyone, I'd build the team around him!

Yes - I cant think of one game where Jason Holt hasn't given 100%. Even the games where he's given away a penalty or got sent off at Hibs (wrongly IMO) he never lacked effort.

In terms of next season I’d be looking to keep

    Shaun Donnellan

    David Carson

    Scott Pittman

    Jamie Brandon

    Steven Bradley

Sean Kelly (purely as he can cover a number of postitions)

    Jack Hamilton

    Tete Yengi

Depending on how loans go, and if Brandon signs Welch – Hayes and Lawal are options.

Presuming Penrice, Anderson, Obileye, Jason Holt, Stephen Kelly, and Boyes leave that only leaves decisions on

    Shamal George

    Cristian Montano

    Mikey Devlin

Daniel Mackay (if there’s a permanent option)

    Mohammed Sangare

    Michael Nottingham

    Andrew Shinnie

    Kurtis Guthrie

I doubt George will want to stay in the Championship, and as a former LFC keeper who’s won POTY at Colchester I’d imagine his agent will be busy. Montano seems like a nice guy, but he’s fairly injury prone and 33 this year. Mikey Devlin is done. The rest may be decent in the Championship, either as starters or backup, but I wouldn’t be breaking the bank to keep them.

Apparently both Jason Holt and Mo Sangare are on contract for another year. Not sure either would opt to leave early.

Jason could probably still find another top club but, at 31, his options will presumably be limited.

I mistakenly thought when VAR was first implemented here that with time decisions would be made quicker and my this point it would be relatively seamless. Needless to say, it's actually been the opposite.

I think I'm correct in saying that VAR worked really quite well at the World Cup. Relatively seamless integration and no real controversy. What exactly is stopping it working the same way in Scotland? Sheer incompetence?

As far as I recall they had a whole team of professionals working in the VAR centre therefore there were obviously many eyes looking at the multiple screens but , more particularly, in Scotland as far as I am aware, there's only one qualified referee and an assistant working in the VAR room so, if the qualified referee is reviewing an incident then he cant be watching the live game.

In the world cup a review could be carried out by one team whilst another watched the ongoing game.

That being said, for the amount we're paying, I would have hoped for a team of referee's working on each game although my next question might be are there really that amount top qualified referees in Scotland?
