  1. I teach on Granton Road and have seen an Ayr jersey floating about once or twice, but never stopped to chat. There’s a few of us in Edinburgh - got to chatting to a guy in Longstone when I was out for a run in an Ayr hoodie. Time was I thought it was just me and my old man...
  2. I did say my old man at the game that I usually feel better when Ferguson has the ball at his feet compared to when he is defending. Was beaten easily on his inside by Storey a few times and could be a weak link, but I hope that he is able to improve. Can’t fault his work ethic, just needs some more time on upper body strength and positioning I feel.
  3. He’s Scottish-eligible through his father, but he himself is English.
  4. He didn’t have much to do at all, really. Came to gather a couple crosses but dealt with everything as you would expect. Sliced one back pass due to Ferguson putting him under real pressure with a poor pass. Generally today was hard work, lots of endeavour from the likes of Shankland, Forrest and McDaid but not much end product. Murdoch was a class act, I felt, but we just seemed to be a touch pedestrian. That said second half improved and we forced the big fat goalie into a few decent-ish saves.
  5. I think it’s all about the start - decent results in the cup and a strong start in the league could encourage a few to sign up. After September if we’re doing well we’ll probably get a good few fair weather fans back.
  6. It’a a bit of a catch 22. It’s a long season so extra games with a cup run for a small squad can be tiring, but if it allowed McCall to bring in this CB he’s after (unless it’s a low-cost loan move) then it might be better to have a winnable tie in the next round and then maybe get a money spinner thereafter.
  7. It’s like when your pal at school dared you to throw something at the mental kid when they weren’t looking....
  8. Tempted to post it as a rumour, just for the absolute scenes that would incur...
  9. Wages could be an issue, perhaps this was why McCall has delayed in offering deals to Ferguson and Murdoch, in case those wages had to be used on a keeper instead. Who is a realistic target?
  10. I was just meaning that it is usually better to have a player signed directly to your club as it avoids potential situations like players being recalled (agreement dependent) but that there weren’t a lot of decent keepers about to sign.
  11. Well, yes, but you get my point. Directly signed would be a better way of putting it.
  12. Obviously we need an experienced/first choice keeper signed up, and I’d prefer a permanent keeper rather than a loan but the reality is there isn’t a lot of keepers out there just now, hence looking at (probably) the Rangers lad. That said, a few pre-season games may not be a bad shout for Hare-Reid’s development. Fairly low pressure, allows him to get a flavour of first team action and lets face it, we don’t have a great record when it comes to developing young keepers. Derek Stillie is the keeper coach, no? Only been retired a decade or so!
  13. 14 was Ferguson’s number last year, everyone else squad number appears the same so wouldn’t be surprised if it was...
  14. That’s the problem, he has an agent. They’re all horrible b*****ds who just want to line their pockets, and view players as a commodity to do that. Curiously during the interviews with Shankland and Crawford they both spoke about asking their parents advice, no doubt agents would have been trying to get the big dolla for their own gains.
  15. It’s good that McCall is talking about making sure the club capitalise on the success with the supporters and local businesses, even better to see him put his actions into words by turning up to your pub and the shirt launch!
  16. I don’t think any of us would begrudge shanks wanting to move on to bigger and better things, but a move to hearts would be a gamble for both. He didn’t set the heather on fire in the prem or champ, and probably benefited from being the main man for us this year. If he goes to hearts, he’ll probably be sitting on the bench often.
  17. I don’t disagree, I just meant it more as a reflection of game time.
  18. Sad to see Boyle go, for purely sentimental reasons. I think it’s the right decision, but I think it’s fair to say he does with best wishes and was well thought of, generally. Reid and not Ferguson being realised is an odd one to me though, unless not every player has been told their being released yet.
  19. Just reading this thread and our own..Ayr and Raith fans are clearly the life and soul of parties! We’re all a pessimistic lot, eh?
