  2. Hi Can anyone from Cambuslang provide their starting 11 and subs from last night's game? Thanks Murray
  3. Shapiro's voice is right up there with the prostitute from The Man With Two Brains. Duke duke of oil
  4. Close your eyes- Michael Robotham. Crime novel set in south west England. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Characters were well drawn and sympathetic and a good whodunit. Read it by going through list of Gold Dagger winners/nominees. Glad I did as the book I'm currently reading, Force of Nature by Jane Harper was also on list and is an excellent read
  5. Baptiste Basically a sequel of sorts to The Missing. Excellent opening episode with a nice twist at the end
  6. Trump and Epstein Trump and Miss Teen America Is Trump an ephebophiliac?
  7. I think it's a matter of perception. There certainly are a lot of folk on the Trotskyist left who are reluctant two staters. Many moons ago I was involved in the AWL and they were practically black balled on the left and decried as zionists because they supported Israel's right to exist. I'm on Twitter a lot and in essence all you have to do is follow left wing comedian David Schneider to see the problem some on the left have with antisemitism
  8. The problem with Labour and antisemitism is a wider problem on the left. Successive Israeli govts have behaved despicably toward the Palestinians and this has reached a nadir under Netanyahu. Calling out the Israeli govt for its many crimes against humanity is to be expected from anyone who is moderately progressive. The problem is that when decrying Zionism the left too often seem to be ignoring history from the mid twentieth century on. Israel exists, and practically no Israelis or the wider Jewish diaspora wants Israel to disappear. Calling for a democratic secular state, as many do on the far left, is to ignore the world as it is and try to start from some imaginary ideal state. When folk on the Labour left attack zionism they should be mindful that there are zionists and zionists. Peace Now, a worthy organisation, are zionist but of a very different stripe from Likud The only viable solution to Israel/Palestine is a genuine two state solution; one which offers a real Palestinian state rather than the dribs and drabs Israel has grudgingly handed over.
  9. The Stranglers at Glasgow. Owing to middle age and fact my better half is going with me, I'll be up in the balcony
  10. London - the biography by Peter Ackroyd. Fascinating, if long read, full of interesting historical anecdotes. Obviously Suggs must have just finished it before coming up with the lyrics for The liberty of Norton Folgate After marathon read, needed something shorter & lighter and just finished No Good Deed by John Niven. Would definitely recommend it. Funny and scathing in equal measure
  11. Read a few good ones recently. One of the perks of being on holiday. Yuval Harari - Homo Deus. A thoughtful look at where our species stands and an imaginative look at where our species may be heading. Not a cheery read but he argues his case well. Blitzed- Drugs the 3rd Reich. Absolutely fascinating read. Lot of stuff I'd never come across before and I'm a bit of a history buff. I knew Hitler had a dodgy doc who kept him doped up but had no idea of the extent. He spent most of WW2 on a cocktail of steroids and then progressed onto opiates and coke. He was on speedballs til supplies dried up. There was also an eye opener about the widespread use of methylamphetamine. The Panzer groups haring through Poland & France were basically on Crystal Meth
  12. 1864 Europe's forgotten war. Harrowing description of Prussian assault on Denmark I think they've filmed it too. Enjoyed the book so will look out for adaptation
  13. Did you get a copy of the team sheets?

I know Talbot team & dubs but was looking for Gow team info

    Thanks Murray

not got the lesmahagow team yet but should get it soon.

  14. It's a label applied to a bunch of insecure mysoginists. Short for involuntarily celibate
  15. The Handmaid's tale. Hadn't read Atwood since The Silent Assassin but glad I did, really enjoyed this & very timely with the referendum in Erie and the recent media interest over incels
  16. If you honestly believe NK is going to scrap all its nukes then I've a magic bean you just need to buy
  17. I'm a Talbot fan who in principle isn't opposed to the idea of a pyramid but has serious reservations about the pig's dinner made of it by the powers that be. My question is really aimed at those clubs in the east who've made the leap. In light of the current promotion/relegation scenario from non league to senior, what does the future hold for the myriad of clubs likely to be stuck in limbo?
  18. Trump in stormy weather, or Stormy Daniels to be exact. The Donald perfectly demonstrates the moral vacuum at the heart of conservative Christianity. Evangelicals cheerleading a serial adulterer sex pest. Surely to feck Mueller will save the day.
  19. JAMC were absolutely magnificent last night. A band on top of their game and clearly enjoying themselves. The Reid brothers are famously dour but last night Jim kept thanking the audience & even cracked a joke. They played quite a few from the recent album, 6 in all, and they were all well received. Highlights of the set for me were All things pass & War on peace from new album, extended Reverence, Some Candy Talking & Darklands.

    Mr Mercedes

King adaptations can be hit or miss to put it mildly. Only seen the pilot episode of this so far but judging by that, Mr Mercedes is definitely going to fall in the hit category. Brendan Gleeson is very good as the retired tec, in fact all of the casting looks spot on, and it is unusually faithful to the source material.
  21. Off to see JAMC tomorrow night at ABC. Tour has been getting good reviews thus far and looks like a top set list. Generally, I don't bother much with the support act but heard good things about The Van T's so will probably drag myself out of Wetherspoons a bit earlier than usual to catch them.
  22. Shouldn't the title of this thread be changed to reflect reality. Brexit rapidly and/or instantaneously descending into farce
  23. Went to Renfrew Ferry last night to see Absolute Bowie. Tremendous live act.
