  1. You guys were tremendous today. Dobbie should have hit 6.  Dykes plays really well alongside Dobbie running into space. Todd opens up defences with his passing and Harkins and Stirling just love taking the piss of inadequate defenders.

you'll comfortably be in the play offs this season while Falkirk will we touring shitty stadiums next season in division 1.

  2. Robbie Neilson?

i think, potentially, there are players in that team  who are not too bad. They just don't want to, or are unable to, play under the current manager.  He has also lost all ability to make calm and educated decisions. In both our last two league games he has made a double half time change of personnel and altered the formation. He is searching for a holy grail with any clue where to look.

I'd happily forsake another signing before the window closes and use the cash for a new management team

  3. While recent performances have been dire to say the least, and a lot of individual players have been criticised, we need to remember that Hartley did say he wanted players who could play a number of positions. While this is great when it works, it isn't here. The team is playing bad and a number of players look bad but if they were allowed to play in their preferred positions, I bet we would be a better team.

Perfect example. McGhee playing at left back when we have Brough, Robson and now Russell who are natural left backs.

I've no idea why we have moved to a back four when a back three suits the players we have. Muirhead  and McGhee are so much better in a back three and seem lost playing as full backs. Put Harrison in the middle and there is your back three.

I think we would be a better team playing 3-4-1-2. Perhaps:

    Leo

    Muirhead Harrison McGhee

    Greenwood McKee Irving Robson

    Lewis

    Haber O'Hara

Thinking O'Hara as he has pace to play of a big target man

  4. Yes - agree. Although do not think we have the staying power for a complete season, and thus not promotion challengers, optimisitic that we are not relegation candidates.

Got a sneaky feeling that Scobbie is away too. His complete exclusion from the squad last night and the fact that Matty Flynn was played a left back against Preston suggests, to me anyway, that we have a suitor for Scobbie with Flynn being lined up as the straight replacement.

It's a good cost saving measure as all the kit the club bought for Ryan Flynn can be passed straight over to Matty Flynn.

I also think that bennett will only be with us till January. Not only is he the class defender in the first division, he would probably be the class defender in the premier league. If he played for one of the old firm just now, they would be talking international caps and sainthoods

  5. I don't believe we have a weak team this season. Inexperienced, yes, but weak, no. From what I have seen so far, there is promise in that team. We will not be challenging from promotion, but certainly will not be down the bottom. Most likely mid table safety. We are building a team from scratch and EP has freely said that this team will take 3 years to mature into a squad that will challenge.

I was not for the re-appointment of EP. However, from what I have seen so far, he does appear to have made changes to his negative style of football. For example:

    - The wingers are playing as wingers and on the correct flank.

    - The full backs support their wingers by overlapping when possible

    - The central midlfield pairing of Miller and Murdoch contrast enough in style so as to be effective together. They are not getting under each others feet.

    - We are strong in central defence and have good cover there.

    - The goalkeeper situation appears to have been solved with the solid McGovern

    - Higginbotham is being used correctly and is thriving in the new role

I still think one more striker will give us a bit more depth and can see us taking another loanee from the SPL. The SPL teams are not sending their players out on loan yet as they are still in pre-season and are therefore still being assessed by management. However, come August, we should be able to borrow a striker from the top league

A bit of optimism people goes a long way :)

  6. Well impressed by Craig Sibbald. Only turned 16 last January too. With him and Kingsley, we would have two 16 year olds in the squad and both of them can play too

Thought it was a solid performance by the whole team. Only concern was the lack of focus in the last quarter of the match. This may have been due to all the substitutions that were made

  7. I remember the same thing when Motherwell signed Chris Porter.

The club they got him from said they'd had a 300K bid for him from a fellow English club, but got sod all from Motherwell because he was moving to Scotland instead.

Agree here - same thing happened when Hibs signed Clayton Donaldson from Crewe. They had turned down a substantial bid in the January and then lost him for nothing at the end of the season due to the cross border move. At the end of the day, Stewart should have been offered a longer contract earlier than 6 months before his current one expired.

  8. We've had the same team for both games so far and barring any more transfers between now and Saturday I'd imagine we'd line up like this:

    Bowman

    Duffie

    Wallace/Bennett

    Scobbie

    Kingsley

    French Trialist

    Millar

    Murdoch

    Trialist (Winters)

    Higginbotham

    Good French trialist

The only other options we have are Compton, Alston and possibly McManus although he was nowhere to be seen against Dundee Utd.

Does anyone know what's up with Dods and why he's not featured so far?

You've got to feel for Murray Wallace. With the arrival of Bennett and with Dods and Scobbie, that makes him fourth choice centre half. He looks too good to be a fourth choice.

  9. Although the guy looks a good player, can't feel that we really need another central defender. We already have Dods, Wallace and Scobbie in that position. Murdoch can play there too if required.

If Bolton hadn't sold Al Habsi yesterday, we may have gotten a keeper on loan.

Sad to see Flynn leaving, but, if we get top dollar for him, then it's for the best

  10. I noted on the Ross County thread that they have been staging gigs at their ground over the Summer months with both JLS and Olly Murs appearing. This is being promoted by the club with all profits going to the club. Why don't we do this? The ground is sitting empty all summer. It's ideally placed between Edinburgh and Glasgow and has a decent enough capacity to stage gigs. Put the stage up at the open end and you then have three stands to fill. Clubs like St Johnstone and Aberdeen have hosted Elton John gigs and surely have made money from that.

The comments on the thread were banding around figures of around £100k.

I mean, how much money did we make from having Zippo's circus in the carpark?

  11. Confirmed on the Bradford City website that both Mark Stewart and Chris Mitchell have signed today. Mitchell looks like he has enjoyed his summer with his strip being a little tight around the edges. Both of them spout the usual comments about how big a club Bradford is, for a division 2 club that is.

    Good luck to them both.

  12. Good on the lad earning his move to a bigger club. As it stands, we can't really offer him anything. We have no team, no vision and a waning support. A footballers career is short so he needs to maximise his income while he has the ability to do that.

Lets hope the BOD have the sense to insist on some add-ins and maybe some players from the Hearts academy on loan
