  1. Rather than banning them, I suppose they could just prove how 'right-on' they are by celebrating Catholic disenfranchisement and the defeat of a hegemonic monarch by a slightly less hegemonic monarch by marching round a football pitch, away from residential areas and traffic?
  2. He is also driven by logic and reason, as opposed to bigotry, supremacism and hatefulness.
  3. What a shame that he'll be expelled from the Order if he attends any funerals, weddings, first communions or christenings for any of her family members, and what a shame his children probably won't be able to join this fine institution because both of their parents are not Protestants. And of course, what a shame he is subjected to never-ending 'sash-bashes' where the tunes often revolve around hating the group his wife comes from, or possibly burning symbols of her faith. I personally know one person associated with the Orange Order who is agreeable, however when you scratch the surface she has an extremely bigoted mindset and a lot of her friends and relatives are unashamed Catholic haters. I don't know the Orange Order, the BNP membership or the EDL membership personally, and yet I still feel I am in a position to judge them for choosing to become members of bigoted, hateful organizations. FWIW, the Orange Order differs from the BNP or the EDL in that some of my ancestors were members, and they were bigoted, supremacist, triumphalist halfwits too.
  4. Tenuous connection to the KKK aside, is it okay to criticize the Orange Order for being a backwards, small-minded, bigoted, triumphalist, supremacist organization, all of whose members are halfwits and all of whose followers are complete lackwits?
  5. It's good that the rest of the UK is above burning effigies and indulging in annual festivals celebrating 17th century victories over the papes - festivals which are really just an excuse for anti-social behaviour and which disturb people trying to lead a peaceful, quiet life. Apart from Guy Fawkes night obviously.
  6. They celebrate the Battle of the Boyne because it was the culmination of an ethnoreligious conflict in Ireland which secured the Protestant Ascendancy. I can only presume that you're hinting that you have some tedious facts about some of the professional soldiers on either side being of the opposite denomination from what you'd expect, as though this indicates anything.Personally, although I have distaste for the marches going by my window playing tuneless fucking rubbish when I'm trying to nurse a hangover, one look at all of the Hyacinth Buckets and Mr Benns being followed around by neds with carry outs makes you feel a lot better about yourself and your life. Unfortunately though, I'll be away for it this year.
  7. This is stretching it a bit as a Facebook annoyance, but there's a girl from work on mine who has just gotten engaged and had her wean (or 'wein' as her partner insists upon spelling it) christened and the vast majority of males at these magical events seem to wear incredibly tacky-looking shiny suits. It is all I can do not to comment 'WHAT THE f**k IS WITH THE SHINY SUITS YOU GYPSY WEDDING LOOKING WEIRDOS' to complete strangers. Also, I am the next Gok Wan or Trinny or Susannah, so f**k knows why Channel 4 haven't signed me up yet.
  8. Nice big round of applause for cancer there. Bit weird.
  9. There are a surprising number of dead dads with facebook.
  10. Viserys also said he was a dragon but I'm informed that fire cannot kill a dragon. So I'm on the fence with this one.
  11. Talking pish. 3 Kings have died in the episodes broadcast so far - Renly, Robert and Robb. No continuity error, although I expect you to nitpick at this because two of them died in earlier series. I've read the books, but one of the things that really annoys me is people complaining about changes before they discover an episode or two later that nothing has actually even been changed. What you have spoiled will happen - I also can't be doing with book readers who complain about changes before they fully see where the writers are going with it.
  12. Seems to be a very simplistic view. You could say: If Jaime hadn't shoved Bran out of a tower window the war wouldn't have started. If person(s) unknown hadn't sent an assassin after Bran the war wouldn't have started. If Robb didn't rebuke Tyrion at Winterfell Tyrion would never have been at the inn. If Littlefinger didn't lie the war might not have started. If Tywin didn't respond to Tyrion's arrest by terrorizing the Riverlands the war wouldn't have started, although at this point he was essentially a criminal, defying the crown. If Robert Baratheon didn't go on a boar hunt the war would've probably been quickly averted. If Robert Baratheon wasn't killed (with a little help from the Lannisters) on the boar hunt then ditto. Once Tyrion was released, if Ned had accepted Joffrey's reign then the war probably would've ended. If Ned hadn't stupidly told Cersei that he knew Joffrey was a b*****d then the Starks and Stannis would've been in far better shape. In any event, even if Tyrion was not arrested and Ned accepted Joffrey's successio it wouldn't have prevented Stannis or Renly from opposing Joffrey. It's not as though Cat's actions were the only contributory factor to the war. Not by a long-shot. Hers were probably the most understandable of the lot too - she doesn't really know Tyrion, she has been told that the Lannisters killed Jon Arryn and knows that the Lannisters visit caused two attempts to be made on her son's life, she knows Tyrion is a Lannister, and she has little reason to distrust Littlefinger who is her childhood friend.
  13. 1 more episode to go. Next Sunday in US, next Monday in the UK.
  14. I sometimes wonder if Sugar Ray Leonard's pals get fed up of him taking photos of bottles of Coke with his first name on it.
  15. I've not even heard of them however I was very distressed to discover that they pronounce it 'Eggon' tbh. On an unrelated point, tonight's episode was the tits, both literally and figuratively. Apparently there's a 2 week wait for episode 9 - why God, why?
  16. Nae offence like, but if you are 'rooting for' Joffrey who, the episode before last, killed a woman with a crossbow for a laugh merely because this week he acted like a snivelly coward who was put in his place by his grandfather then there is something a little bit wrong with you. Rest assured he is a bad guy, even when he is letting his hot fiancee manipulate him or his grandfather bully him - he just happens to be a bit of a coward and a bit of an idiot. I don't think the man who cut Theon's penis off is particularly blurred around the edges either tbh (although I thought the way they portrayed the women in that scene as beautiful, willing participants in the whole thing was a really poor choice (unless they address it this Sunday of course)). I am personally enjoying the cutting of peripheral characters - I completely lost track of half of them in the books, although admittedly Belwas was one of the more memorable ones. It's inevitable that characters will get cut or amalgamated into one in an adaptation like this and re Gendry Re Bran & Co. He was a TV writer before releasing this series, his most famous work being in The Twilight Zone. I'd also add that reading the wiki and having people tell you pretty much what happens will suck the fun out of an adaptation far more than reading the books will, although I still wish that I'd come to the second and third series fresh as I did with the first. It's one of the few occasions where the adaptation seems generally better than the original source.
  17. I should clarify that I didn't down-vote this because I'm offended. It's because anyone who uses the word 'vile', particularly when combined with 'disgusting', is an unimaginative histrionic dullard, desperately seeking attention & acceptance. I think this exact quote was about 50% of Paulo Sergio's posts actually. GBNF.
  18. Really more of a set-up episode, which is necessary I suppose, but there definitely no big moments. The only scenes I didn't really care for were the scenes of the wall climb - I'd put that mainly down to a lack of tension for any of the characters, having now read the books. I enjoy the characters immensely though so I could watch them gab away for hours. Paul Kaye's really surprisingly good and Roose Bolton seems like a good actor, and very interesting - incase you're unsure he was the guy who was talking to Jaime and Brienne, and who (along with Littlefinger) can troll with the best of them on here.
  19. I believe that answers your question.

    Breaking Bad

The sexy latina principal teacher didn't see the appeal of her weird middle-aged seriously ill married underling for some reason. Women eh?
  21. Stannis imo. Robert gained the throne from Dany's ancestors by conquest, Joffrey is not his son and Gendry is illegitimate, so his oldest brother Stannis is next in line. However the very fact that you can gain the throne through conquest shows that a legitimate claim means very little aside from gaining support - there is no 'Divine Right of Kings' (just like in real-life with the Wars of the Roses or The Glorious Revolution/Jacobitism). Also, Ygritte's arse was marvellous.
  22. The stuff with Theon is being kept vague intentionally as far as I can tell. He has been captured by persons unknown and has now escaped with a little help from his unknown friend, and he is riding off to reunite with his sister. As for Stannis, not much has happened other than he just lost a very important battle, he has taken it out on his best mate, his bit on the side is away on a mysterious trip and apparently you can't create deus ex machina smoke assassins willy nilly.
  23. In terms of the books people should avoid spoilers at all costs and avoid even hinting at absolutely anything. However, once an episode has aired in the UK people should be able to post freely about it. Your own stupidity has spoilered you if you find out a plot development you didn't already know about in that way.
