I take it Lyle is out with a injury ?..

Kane has been poor I really thought he would have been a good signing got us a few goals but has done nothing for us so far. Works hard but that is it ..

How long are we going to keep playing McFadden in the hope that his quality from years ago somehow cones back.

Thought Faddy had some lovely touches yesterday.  The ball in for Dobbie to volley and one other hit with the outside of his foot spring to mind.

A bit like Dobbie you could see he was a class above the rest.  After an early burst of energy and some decent touches and passes when he came on though,  he drifted out of the game in the later stages.  Match fitness is obviously not up there yet.  The question is will he ever be really fit enough to get longer spells in a game.

Agree with this. Have to say though that Lyle often gets overlooked when the plaudits are being handed out. He brought real quality yesterday at a point when it was sorely needed. A super player.

    How did Faddy look?

Bit heavy, bit slow but some nice touches. I was thinking watching him that the amount of game time he gets will depend on what he manages to produce on the park and vice versa. Same could be said of all players I guess but can't help but wonder if it's all a bit late for Faddy. Hope I'm wrong.

I wish him well and will remember him fondly as a Queens player.

Last season wasn't great at times, but even then he was capable of great things on his day.

Over the piece, his contribution for us has been positive.

Not convinced tbh. Saw some great moments a la final at Livingston but don't think his heart has been with the club for some time now. Bye bye Lee. I for one won't miss your wild kicks out to the left wing.

  5. Disappointed we didn't take three points today after coming back after the substitutions. Shame we didn't manage to get it together on the deck for much of the game as high balls in to Dobbie was never going to work given the size of their defenders. Even Del with his spring heels was struggling. Both goals were beauties though and an away point on a day when there were lots of draws will have to do. Other teams will struggle to take much away from Livingston. Congrats to Lyle for equalling Andy T's tally. More to come I'm sure.

Just to highlight, the murals outside Palmerston are nothing directly to do with the club, though the club were happy to encourage them and allow them to be put up. I may be wrong but I think the location was requested from the People's Project who paid for them. The point being to make them visible to passers by, something they wouldn't really be if erected anywhere else in the ground. They are supposed to be (relatively) vandal proofed I think though nothing will stop the determined vandal ultimately. I haven't seen what damage there is to them, is it bad?

The internal walls of the Arena have a number of paintings of former great players (and a couple of current ones!) by the same artist (Jo McSkimming). I think the People's Project paid for them too. She also does the paintings for the Memorial Wall inside the ground which are paid for by the families.

I'm not really sure where else the murals could actually go other than the external walls of the Arena I suppose but they'd be far less seen there.

Then I guess the question is whether or not having vandalised paintings visible to passers by is worthwhile. Personally would prefer the brick work but I appreciate others feel differently.

That's another Mural been vandalised. Wonder what the club will do regarding them?

I paint in my spare time and if one of them gets damaged I'm a bit gutted even though their just for personal use. Feel for the guy who took alot of time and hardwork doing them.

I'm afraid I was never in favour of those paintings being put on that wall. Never the right place for them imho as it was a nap they'd get vandalised and I always actually rather liked the wall as it was. I'd hope it would be preserved in any future redevelopment. The paintings, if people were determined to have them, might have been better placed somewhere inside the ground. I said as much at the time and if my opinion goes against the flow so be it. Reckon they should come down now.

Why is this form dragging up a issue about a football club that does not now exist ! The new club were given a chance no other organisation or business would have been afforded. Any other organisations premises would have been sold by the liquidator to help pay at least some of their debts, yet they allowed to keep all of their assets, while suppliers were left to foot the bill,!!  This was completely wrong and they should hang their heads in shame that they let this happen. Yes some have short memories when it suits them.

Forget them for goodness sake, and follow and support your home town team. Queen of the South.

Indeed. They have very short memories, and an uncanny ability to turn a blind eye to history when that too suits them.

I'm one of those people. I still feel quite bitter about it, and it totally changed my relationship with Queens. I probably averaged 10-15 home games a season before that vote and I've been to about 5-6 in total since. Most of the group I used to go with feel similarly - a couple haven't been back at all I think.

Time has passed, but it's passed in a way that has got me out of the habit of going. I've had kids since then too, which makes six hours away at the weekend hard to justify. I still enjoy it when I do get along although perhaps with less emotional attachment than before, and still get a rush of excitement at 4:50pm on a Saturday if I see Queens have won.

I'll not forgive the board for that disgraceful vote though. Shame on them. Unfortunately I can't see my view on Queens going back to the way it was before until those involved have left the club.

It's a damn shame that happened and I hope the board still feel some of that shame. I too was horrified by the decision the club took re the vote. I know many people who took a personal decision to boycott Palmy on the back of it and I respect their decision. Thankfully they're back now. I've been accused of being obsessed but this for me is the reason I can't bear to watch us play in red.  Added to the white and blue it sends a shudder down my spine. Rangers in disguise? It's unrealistic, I guess, to expect any formal statement about the vote after all this time but I'd love us to publicly bin the idea of ever playing in red again.

My original post on the general subject of ambition and belief is similar to your theme.

I agree that we have been out of the top flight for so long that the fans just don't believe it can happen to us. If you look at teams in a similar bracket to us we are one of the few if not the only team from our broad peer group who have not taken our place in the top league over the past 50 years.

Teams like Airdrie, Morton, Raith, Hamilton, Dumbarton Falkirk,Inverness, Livvy, Ayr - have all had seats at top table. I have excluded Gretna and Ross County due to the financing that they have benefitted from and you could probably add Livvy as well.

If you take two individuals or two teams of broadly equal ability - one with burning ambition and one with a "what will be attitude" it is pretty obvious that the ambition will drive results and achievement on a bigger scale over the piece.

Don't get me wrong with the sort of competition that we have faced in recent years an over supply of drive and ambition would not have gained us promotion. I remember Dobbie saying upon his arrival - " that he had unfinished business here and he wanted to help take us up". I loved that comment because it is exactly what I wanted to hear - someone who was thinking big and had a clear objective. I don't think I heard anyone at the club reinforcing Dobbie's statement and it was really left out there as a "lone voice".

This year is a perfect case in point - as things stand we are about 8/1 to 10/1 to win the league. If we were to string some good results together in next few weeks we might just shorten to around 5/1. Now that is as short as we have probably ever been in recent memory so it reinforces the fact this years title race is wide open.

I may be in the minority - no surprise there, but we need the Management and Club in general to start leading us on this journey. I would bet that Dobbie will already be looking at the table and the competition and thinking we can win this but we need more than him believing especially Gary Naysmith.

The team with biggest budget doesn't always prevail. Of course it would take a monumental effort for us to edge out say Dundee United but of course it is possible.

I get all the other reasons why crowds are dropping alarmingly at Palmy but the biggest single reason is the lack of belief that we can really compete to achieve promotion.

All of this is true and nicely put.

I read in a previous post about the Rangers vote and maybe that stopped fans coming through the gate. But, I know quite alot of Rangers fans who actually hate us and they're from the town! I see alot on social media and hear alot from Rangers fans that they would never step foot in Palmerston. Obviously unless they were playing at Palmerston.

    Don't understand it at all.

I think a significant number of Rangers fans hate everyone.

  12. I'd be up for buying a block of home tickets at the start of the season. I live too far away to make a season ticket viable and can't afford to buy one as a goodwill gesture but if a book of say 6 tickets be available for home games I could choose nearer the time I'd probably buy it. The discount would need to be less than that of a season ticket to make it work for the club but it's an idea, no?

I also think if we upped the quality of our merchandising, especially in leisure wear, we'd sell more. I saw a mate wearing a black Hibs jacket with a subtly EMBROIDERED black badge recently and the first thing I thought was "if Queens sold something like that I'd buy it".

    Could be completely wrong though...

I know you are not used to, nor will like, hearing this but........ WRONG.

Around the early 70's we had a yellow with black trim shirt and black shorts for a change shirt - a bit like traditional Wolves but a little duller.

We also used white with black trim and black shorts around that time.

Interesting that after all this time yellow and white still seem to be the most popular choices for change strips.

They certainly seem to be the least contentious.

Just caught up on the last few days so here is my thoughts.

Away shirts - its been an interesting read because I can only just remember the tops of the 90's although some designs err stick out more than others. As to colour one of my favourits of recent seasons is the black Palmerston Café one. Probably not the most popular choice but I liked as well as the yellow one from 3 or 4 years ago. If I could have a choice I would like the club to rotate through the colours of white yellow and black. Red and grey I don't think suit us. I have the red top from Peter Haining as the sponsor and its the worst one I bought and keep it as a reminder of my mistake.

    Sound thinking imho.

I am in total agreement with you that White/blue is our traditional change colour.

What I was referring to was that yellow/blue had become more of a traditional change colour from the early 90's through to the naughties and that I would prefer it to be used if white/blue clashed with other teams.

Ditto. I agree with this, although if truth be told I could live with anything other than red which for my money suggests an affinity with Rangers. People may argue it does no such thing but I believe that for many it does and they're uncomfortable with that. I know most of my personal Queens supporting friends are of this way of thinking.
