  1. Went along to the game yesterday and must say I don't have a lot of optimism for the season ahead if we are continuing to play with such defensive tactics against teams of around the same level. Yesterday we started with 5 in defence with 2 defensive midfielders in Smith and Morena playing in the middle! The only attacking minded players were Callum Tapping (at a push), Kalvin Orsi (don't know what he offers) and Dene Shields who looked to be struggling yesterday.

We did have chances with a shot being cleared off the line and another hitting the bar but this Peterhead team weren't up to much and were there for the taking. Why did we only use 2 subs when we had both Sinclair and Henry on the bench?

If this is how we are going to approach every game this season then our crowds are going to dwindle even further... it's absolutely dire to watch.

The old scarf from around the time he played with us suggests that there's some top trolling going on here.

Plus he's evidently at home and it's clearly not the £15,000,000 mansion house that I can only presume he owns.

Don't think it's been quite as long as 16 years since Rory played for us.

  3. Finn would be a good signing for Arbroath,  busy little attack minded player Dick s kind of person.I genuinely think city are struggling for cash .

I believe he’s been offered a very fair contract which matches his level of ability. Unfortunately as much as I like Finn he certainly seems to think he’s better than he actually is. He was maybe voted as player of the year but in his own words it was because he was the best of a bad bunch in an absolute horror season.

Would be more than happy to keep him but wouldn’t have him holding the club to ransom over more money.

  4. Surely not. You earned £160K in prize money for finishing bottom.

Did you bring in that many high payed players to waste all that?

We were in considerable debt prior to winning promotion. Any extra money earned last season will have gone towards clearing that. Don’t know the figures but I’d assume we are comfortably in the black again but won’t be getting ourselves back into that mess.

If we hadn’t gone up that season we’d have been fighting for survival in this league.
  5. We’ve done ok through pre-season especially when you consider we’ve not had anything near a settler squad and loads of trialists.

My concern however is Dods reluctance to move away from the 5 at the back. It’s absolutely dire to watch and it doesn’t work for us. There is no width whatsoever.

I’d be happy with the signings of Mellingui and Morena but still think we are a couple of quality players short of a play-off push I’d say. An attacking midfielder and another striker in my opinion.

  6. Why would it be a bizzare move, he may think that arbroath or east fife have better training, offer more money and sees more chance of having a successful season.

If a lot more money is on the table then fair enough. I’d like to think we’ve put a good offer on the table, it’ll be at least equal to the contract he was on in the Championship last season.
  7. Finn is a decent enough player and I’d have been happy for him to sign on at Brechin however he seems to have ideas above his station.

I thought he looking to get a full time gig somewhere (I.e. Raith) or another shot at the Championship with Alloa or someone. If he ends up at Arbroath or East Fife I just find that a bizarre move.

For me he’s a league 1 player and still has a lot to learn.

  8. Don't think it is a case of supporters getting tetchy, just that we don't recognise the description of Liam Watt that you portray. Is it not the case that you are trying to convince yourself that he was not good enough for you but really you would have liked him to stay???
As for the comment on the quote above re the rest of the squad, I did foresee that coming as I said in my post on the Brechin site and you duly obliged.

If Watt could return to the form he showed for us the season before then yes, I’d have liked him to stay. If it was up to me I’d have brought him in for pre-season to prove his fitness but Dods obviously thinks he can bring in better on the wages he was on. As yet we haven’t but time will tell.
  9. It’s amazing how tetchy opposition supporters get when you dare criticise one of their new signings. Watt was overweight and unfit last season, that’s a fact. If he’s trimmed up a bit then you’ve got a good player there. Wasn’t worth the wages that he’d have been on given his fitness issues whilst he was here.

  10. See no problem with season ticket prices, in fact they are cheap. Admission prices like others have said is in line with similar teams. Ideally it would be cheaper but just the way things are going.

Surely there was only a modest increase in the wages last season?! After all there was no win bonuses paid out which will have surely saved a bit of dosh. Doubt the wage structure would have included considerable bonuses anyway given how few wins we were likely to get.

  11. Buzz has been a good servant to Brechin but he was absolutely dross last year. Don’t know if it was a confidence thing but he was a shadow of the keeper he was the few seasons prior. He got dropped for a few games for a keeper that’s played a handful of games in about 4 years, says it all really.

Could be a good signing if he can get back to his form of old. He’s nuts and will pick up plenty of bookings and the odd red card for losing the plot.

  12. He's not though is he?

Even just looking at the Ayr team Devlin, Docherty, Adams, Moore, Preston and possibly Forrest. His record speaks volumes in that he's never been a success above a mid table 3rd tier side, the mentioned Ayr players have it in them to succeed at a higher level, does Trouten?

I'd take Trouten over any of them every day of the week.

  13. Trouten on his day is the best player in the league. That is coming from someone that is still quite bitter that he left us to join Ayr (despite the way he was treated by Ayr fans during his first spell and when he returned with Brechin).

His record speaks for itself. A wonderfully gifted player who won many games for us with a moment of brilliance.
