  1. At last someone in the media telling it as it should be.....................await outcry from Rankgers fans complaining that with a name like that, what would you expect...lol. Well done Desdemona

    http://www.thescotti...-shame-SPL.html

Good article, but he's hardly saying anything 90% of all Scottish football fans haven't been for the past 3 months.

I'll make no excuse for saying this, but if less money means lower wages and fewer players then that's the way it has to be.

Exactly. Lets move toward expenditure capping based on turnover, it'll be better for everyone in the long run.

  2. but the sentence structure is quite something.

I've turned down potential flatmates on account of their emails containing a similar standard of grammar and punctuation. laugh.gif

It also seems to touch on points without really going into any depth. Reeks of someone just trying to blur the edges doesn't it?

The lack of depth appears to be a giveaway; there's no information that wasn't publicly available yesterday. Also, the letter appears to have been signed by the wrong person (unless I'm reading it wrong).

  3. what struck me most was the focus on whether any new buyer would be able to allow Rangers to compete both domestically and in Europe. There is this in-built assumption by all the media that Rangers need to be able to compete domestically and even in some cases even in Europe.

If my club was in administration and days away from Liquidation I wouldn't give a f**k about whether they could compete short term, I'd just be desperate to make sure my club survived so that I had a team to support. Yet Rangers seem to think they have some sort of divine right to be able to compete against Celtic and to keep players to be able to do that. It is ludicrous. The arrogance is astounding.

This talk is all coming from the media, not the fans. The media are scared shitless that without a strong, competitive OF, scottish football will collapse, tabloid sales will plummet, and there'll be no audience for daily radio output (e.g., super scoreboard).

Most fans I've spoken to would be happy with a team in the Juniors, just as long as there's still a team to support.

  4. In fairness that'd be a rather stupid thing to do, on 3 counts

[1] many people wouldn't believe them

[2] they'd be vulnerable to marginalisation from retorts like "look how unrealistic and irresponsible they are"

[3] the moral highground position is founded on Rangers being unable to meet their debts being wrong, yet they'd be advocating their own clubs moving toward becoming unable to meet their debts

so that particular approach would be foolish through its vulnerability.

[1] and [2] aren't reasons for not voicing your opinion if the alternative is doing nothing / complaining after the event. However, point [3] that you make is interesting, in that it's exactly the difficult position most SPL chairmen now find themselves in before this vote.

The point I'm trying to make is that the story being spun by the media is that these fans who don't want to see a newco admitted to the SPL don't realise or don't fully appreciate the knock on effect it might have, and that it's right and proper that a newco slots right back in. Of course, this isn't true - many who don't want to see a newco admitted are fully aware of the knock-on effect it may have on the rest of the SPL, but value sporting integrity more highly. This message needs to heard loud and clear before any vote is taken.

Rangers' actions to get to this point have been disgraceful, but any chairman who votes to readmit a newco for their own club's financial benefit is complicit in the collapse of sporting integrity in our game.

Personally, I'd like to see newco Rangers do the honourable thing and apply directly to the SFL without attempting to transfer the SPL share; but I know I'm living in fantasyland with that one.

  5. We've heard all the scare stories from the MSM saying Rangers are needed to survive but, you know what, this is bigger than money, its about what is morally right and sporting integrity.

Couldn't agree more. Have any of the supporters groups for the clubs that are potentially going to be worst hit thought about releasing a statement to the effect of "we'd rather risk our club entering administration than sacrifice sporting integrity"? I'm sure that sort of response couldn't be so easily ignored by the MSM.

  6. Sky maybe throw a lot iof money at Scottish football but they don't even make a secret of the fact they couldn't give a toss about it.

That expensive-sounding wee bagpipe ditty they've been using for the past 200 years had me fooled. They must curse the amount of effort required to film a new title segment when a team gets promoted.

Anyone have a rough idea what they pay for TV rights versus income from Scottish households subscribing to Sky?

  7. Don't you realise that WE and NEWCO are mutually exclusive?

It isn't and don't let anyone pretend it is. Even in the 3rd division the newco is NOT Glasgow Rangers.

It is merely a new company that leaves behind a corrupt and toxic company that has been found out.

Of course. I fully expect everyone that holds this line of thought to absolve the newco of the sins of its predecessor - never mentioning again the establishment, corruption, bigotry, or debt in the same breath as Rangers 2012. After all, it's not the same club... laugh.gif

  8. Still I can't help but remember that you voluntarily decided to support a club that has bigotry woven into their very fabric for the past 140 years.

TBH, it wasn't really a consideration for me at the age of 4. I grew up 20 mins from Ibrox and loved football.

Now the obvious response is that I must have become aware of the club history at some point, and sure, I did in my mid-teens - but to a great extent I've always divorced the politics of the fans from the football team. As a pro-independence republican who lived in Dublin for a number of years, I find I don't fit in very well at social gatherings...

  9. Fixed that for you.

I don't know of anyone that wouldn't rather have seen all the debt paid back. I hope at least a CVA will be arranged, but I think we all know liquidation is on the way.

Hell, getting rid of the bigotry would be a blessing; and probably easier to do in the 3rd division when all the glory hunters forget to turn up at 3pm on a Saturday.

Please email the club and tel them this.

The club know fine well that many fans support the drop to division 3; I don't personally know of anyone who is against it. However, the other SPL clubs will be making the decision... they're the ones who need to forget about the contents of their wallets.

Miller's proposal to just walk away from tax owed (via CVA or not) holds no honour with most fans.

Well, if that's the opinion you have of Motherwell, Livingson, Dundee, et al. in recent years who have come out of administration with a CVA then fair enough. I can't blame you.

Hope you can sleep at night ...

Wow... it's friendly around here. I'm glad I popped my head up to say hello unsure.giflaugh.gif

  10. They're not remotely bothered that Rangers are damaged goods and will always be referred to as cheats.

It's not a universal view. I value sporting integrity over everything else and will be disgusted if we are allowed to stay in the SPL as a newco next season.

There's at least some honour to be found in taking the appropriate punishment (relegation to the 3rd) and working our way back up through the ranks.
