  1. To be honest we’ve had a pretty stable core of players for a few years. Of course you can point to this guy or another who has come and gone but for me it’s not a squad they’ll keep us up should we secure promotion- last season is the proof. We need a big renewal of players if we go up, so I’m open minded about losing guys on pre contracts.
  2. Anybody heard if the under pitch heating is on? If the pitch at Dens is anything like my front grass, it’s not playable! I’d like to keep this winning run impetus maintained on Saturday before the important trip to Ayr at the end of next week, so hopefully the heating is doing its job.
  3. Bit of a pisser though, I’d have to trade Mrs Lafite!!
  4. Arrived in Inverness with Mrs Lafite for a weekend in the highland capital plus, I hope, a Dark Blue win…. Visited a few pubs already: Mcgregors- good; Castle Tavern- good; Gellions, ok but manky; Lauders manky and noisy. Posh grub tonight, then curry tomorrow
  5. Well, the P&J belongs to the Dundee publisher of the Beano and the Courier. As far as I know the Courier and the P&J look very similar, probably due to both titles being printed in Dundee. Whereas the editorial independence of the two papers may still be anchored in Aberdeen for the P&J, and Dundee for the Courier that might preclude saying that they are the same. I could quite easily be gibbering pish, and no doubt a DC Thomson employee will correct me, but that’s my understanding.
  6. Got the tickets to see the game on Saturday. Looking forward to it. Where is the best place to park ICT fans please?
  7. Enjoyed a good cup tie yesterday. Airdrie certainly worth the draw after 90 mins looking good on the break, aided by bad Dee defending. Apart from a great save from a Rudden shot on the turn the Diamond keeper will have much better days. Kerr’s excellent left foot cross having left two men in his wake created the error for goal number one, while a horrific sclaf clearance gave Rudden a bit of time to score a composed and good technical finish for 2-1. The sending off before extra time coupled with lively Dundee subbies made it a difficult extra time for Airdrie, but I’ve seen less attack minded opponents at Dens this season. Must make the playoffs behind the Pars.
  8. Hotel booked. A weekend away with Mrs Lafite. First night in Inverness since 1977. I’m sure it will have improved since then…. Invernesians, please advise on the best curry house in your fair city. thank you.
  9. Enjoyed the game today. Delighted with a win over a good footballing team, that was good up to the box but in all honesty there wasn’t much bite from the Raith front men. As for Dundee, it was a reasonable first half with Robinson unlucky to hit two posts from one shot. The midfield took time to settle after two injury replacements but it was great to see Sean Byrne on the park. We had a good second half with good movement from McMullan, Mulligan, Robinson and the back men looked steady albeit Tyler French had a quiet day in a strange position for him. Even the subbies kept up the movement meaning that even Sheridan looked quite pacy. Robinson took his goals well. But there should have been more… Playing like the last 45 minutes for the rest of the season will see us very close to the top.
  10. As much as I’ve nothing at all against RRFC, I can’t help but remember this last minute winner in that season, where in the embarrassment of a second administration, some joy came from this goal.
  11. The Cammy /Barry debate is classic football fan fun. It’s always controversial comparing lads between different eras as no one is right and no one is wrong. I liked Barry and I like Cammy. I’d say to join in the fun, Cammy just shades it as he scores an occasional goal. Saturday’s celebration was sensational from Cammy.
  12. Williamson invisible. McMullan and McGowan just present. Other than that it’s punt and run. Pish poor.
  13. Agreed regarding Anderson. He’s ok going forward as seen on his goal against the New Saints, but he disappoints by disappearing for large parts of the game. I’m not convinced by Williamson either who flatters with good close control, but is also too often absent in the middle. I’d like to see Byrne moving back in favour as I’m even less convinced about Grayson.
  14. Not convinced on either of Grayson or Williamson. The former played ok against Arbroath but really hasn’t shone or maybe his left “foot wand” is needing a magic pill; the latter has good close control, and is big and strong, yet is invisible for too much of a game. I’d like the force of Byrne, and the creativity and ability of McGowan, Cameron/Milligan to see what that gives.
  15. To be honest I’ve been much more positive with Byrne than negative. He’s been a great signing. His strength has been in: very good close control; very good at interrupting opponents’ play; making himself available; pretty good passer; hardly ever losing possession; and strength in the tackle. Yet, despite these strengths; he never scores goals; he rarely puts the killer pass in that rips a defence open and I think it’s in this part of his game that GB feels we need more positive action. Over the piece, however, I understand GB’s view, and I wish Sean the best of luck wherever that may be.
  16. Yep. Resilience and bottle are appropriate words. Going all the way believing you can do it is a new thing. Probably not seen since the Deefiant season.
  17. Shh! Don’t let the Fannydice dwellers know that agent Ross is performing a great job; massively expensive signings that look wonderful on paper; great first leg result to get the Tadgerines nearly asphyxiate with hope and entitlement; painful humiliation at the hands of the Cheesemakers; lose last minute goals to Kille; lose screamers to Livvie, and I’m sure he’s got a woeful result scenario for Sunday set up. It’s a perfect storm Jacko, well done. shhh….
  18. The Dee might indeed not be at that Jambo level. Yet, my question to you is are you better or worse than say the 1-0 home win v Killie last winter. (A match I enjoyed despite getting the full Gayfield environmental experience )
  19. Yes, and although the League Cup group was successful in a competitive context it was also a finding out exercise for all teams. That said, we have played with more tempo and more attacking aggression than last season. A change of manager and mentality can have an impact and I remain solidly cautiously pessimistic for the Championship season. It’s always difficult to get out of. The youngsters, particularly Mulligan has looked pretty decent and the two goals from Cameron were excellent finishes so hopefully they can carry on like that this season. So far it’s a big change from normal having to multi-stories at centre half and I think that both Sweeney and French will score from set pieces. Looking forward to seeing the league season start with the Jags and I think then we’ll see what is in store.
  20. Have to agree having enjoyed the comestibles on Tuesday night. I’d like to add that the Wee Bar under the stand was a super place: great atmosphere; reasonably priced beer; a great collection of Stenhousemuir pennants; and all round delight.
