    For anyone that hasn't seen.

That annoyed me more than the Ashcroft news tbh, it just shows the utter disconnect between those running the club and the fans. Calling it a research mission is wild.

Absolutely no apology needed, it's nothing personal, my tone in the replies was stinking.

Once again I find myself scunnered with the Pars, again.

Completely agree with the first part. When everything’s going wrong on the park and we can’t get signings over the line, why are we even discussing things like that? Section North West getting emptier every week, fan engagement has gone so far backwards and we’re arranging a trip to St Pauli for directors and then actually bragging about it on social media. GTF with that nonsense. I would honestly expect so much more from the supporters trust. That’s absolutely ridiculous, how can a supporters trust be so out of touch with the actual supporters?

Those in charge at the club seem so far from connecting with/caring about fans right now. Are they totally oblivious to how fans are feeling right now? Because it certainly feels that way.

Regarding the second part of your post, I definitely did need to apologise. I’ve been a knob today and subjected everyone to my s**t - particularly you. We’re all frustrated/scunnered/fed up, but shouldn’t be taking it out on each other. Sorry again, hope all’s well with you. I’ll buy you a pint if I ever end up meeting you in person!

Dunfermline's a small place, doesn't take long for news to get out. It's not anywhere near top of the list of things we're continuing to f**k up over the last 10 years.

Aye, fair. It’s just something that’s annoyed me since the Aird thing, if I’m being honest. Add that to my frustration that we can’t seem to actually complete the signing of any of the players we need and I’ve gone on a stupid rant.

Apologies to everyone. Especially @HoBNob. Nothing personal at all, I’ve just ended up ranting and venting aimlessly today and you seemed to keep prodding at me.

Christ. Do you honestly beleive that his agent wasn't putting his name around to find out all the available options? You reckon that Raith who were in contact with him last month to try and sign him wouldn't have been kept abreast of his availability?

You reckon that Raith don't have a courier subscription where it said last week we were targeting an experienced centre half and didn't do the math? Likewise that in pre season when articles were going up that Byrne was available, they missed that?

Instead they're trawling PnB and following Michael Wood for there transfer targets and that's the reason the moves fell through?

    Christ.

    Christ.

People have lost the run of themselves.

The club have had issues for years with information getting leaked. People within the club have been leaking stories for years. The courier and daily record get their info from somewhere - and the manager has denied a lot of the transfer rumours (even when true), so it’s not him.

I remember someone leaking that Aird was signing a contract, just for Dundee United to phone his agent while he was on his way to East End to sign it. There’s been lots of examples of info being leaked like this over the years. People at East End can’t keep their mouths shut - as others have alluded to in this thread over the last couple of weeks.

edited to remove a lot of the stupid s**t. Aware it’s far from the biggest issue, I’m just frustrated with the club right now.

Anyway, what’s he like, any good?

Ashcroft's a solid championship defender. Old school centre half, dominant in the air in both boxes. Would back him to score against us, since we can’t defend set-pieces and he’s a big threat from them.

Not got any pace, but his positional sense is very good and he reads the game well.

  5. Also, can I just add - if there’s any truth in the ‘leaked’ info about us agreeing terms with Dundee for Byrne and Ashcroft, everyone involved with leaking this info and allowing Raith to swoop in, can f**k right off.

I’d much rather we kept our business quiet and got it done, than had people spreading this info before anything’s signed, resulting in players getting better offers. That goes for the insiders at the club leaking the info and the attention seekers who then post it online to boost their ego.

You can’t blame him. Most players would want a fight at the top of the league not the bottom.
I just hope we have more irons in the fire.

100%. Can’t criticise Ashcroft at all. But we’ve apparently been targeting an experienced defender for 6/7 weeks now. Not added any, but Raith have added 2 (both on loan) in that time. Something’s not right at the club, if we can’t bring in the players we need.

I think there's credibility in the Ashcroft situation. No idea about the Witherspoon/Cook rumours.

Based on what though? A podcaster posting a rumour?

The same ‘source’ posted in August about us announcing one or two signings one week. One being a former youth player. I would imagine the player he was speculating about is the same one that’s playing for Raith Rovers now. I think the other player being speculated about was another that didn’t sign - who went to Inverness and is now at United. So I’m not sure I’ll trust his rumours.

Agree. Was never a good sign when it was announced they had agreed terms and Ashcroft had until end of month to sign.

    I heard 160 thousand smackers

Are we at the stage that every single rumour posted on social media, or heard in the pub, is now accepted as being factual?

  9. That point helps nobody. Think it’s clear that was the bottom 2 going up against each other. We were better than them first half, conceded a goal and looked really vulnerable again after that. The confidence has gone. No idea how we didn’t score towards the end, but I also thought Mehmet had chucked one in the net towards the end and MFW saved us with some really last ditch tackles.

    Something like this today?

Despite Benjamin and MFW looking like complete duds recently, I think a competent midfield could help them. Wait and see

    IMG_6118.jpeg

Would imagine Hamilton and Otoo are the other way round, but this would be how I expect that team to line up. Unless we’re mixing it up and going 4-3-3?

O’Halloran and McCann could be wide in a front 3, with Comrie at RB. I’d love it, but can’t see it.

  11. If we’re going to end this slump, it has to be today. We need to attack Arbroath, I’m fed up of our negative tactics and our lack of ‘plan b’ once we concede, which means we collapse. If we’ve signed 2 strikers on the last month and haven’t got a game plan that creates chances for them, that’ll just be such a waste.

Both teams low on confidence. Early momentum could be really important. If either team concedes early, they could get hammered if the team in the lead continues to attack them. I know it seems unlikely when you look at the goals scored column for both teams, but both defences are so low on confidence that it might happen.

If we weren’t in a relegation scrap with Arbroath, I’d be wishing Jim McIntyre well at his latest club. Got a lot of time for him, after his spell with us. Really wish he’d gone on to have a better managerial career overall. Also like Arbroath as a club and as an away day. But, it’s us against them, so I hope they lose this battle.

Don’t know how reliable this is

Not sure how reliable it is, but it’s a player we’ve been linked with, that would be a fantastic signing. Ashcroft is exactly what our defence is needing right now.

That guy’s use of hashtags irritates me. He’s basically said “the former Come On Ye Pars defender”. But I’m willing to let that slide if this is correct.

I don't like to be hard on players but it seems to me that certain younger players at the club aren't rated and almost certainly won't be here next season.

In fairness, I don’t think this is the environment to throw a kid into. We’re now in a relegation scrap, on a terrible run of form and the atmosphere in the stadium is poisonous.

There’s also that noticeable lack of experience on the park. The young guys on the park, who have more experience than the kids on the bench, look distraught out there. As soon as we concede once, we collapse. There’s nobody playing that Bene role of trying to keep them going, lifting spirits and trying to organise things. There’s just that feeling of ‘here we go again’ and we look defeated as soon as we lose a goal. Throwing even less experienced kids onto the park wouldn’t make any sense at all, in my opinion.

If we were throwing kids onto the park in this scenario, we would risk destroying any confidence they may have. Saying a 17/18/19 year old kid isn’t ready for that sort of environment is not the same as saying they’re not rated.

We loaned East Kilbride's Ally Roy in the last extended loan window so you're probably making that up.

Don't think there’s any need for that kind of comment, we all get things wrong at times. Also, I was just going by what was reported by some media outlets around deadline day. Here’s one example:

    https://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/when-is-transfer-deadline-day-in-scotland-what-time-does-the-window-shut-can-players-sign-after-deadline-4002186

But, you just continue to be patronising for no obvious reason, because you’ve obviously never been wrong.

Am I right in thinking we can get another 4 loans in then? As long as they play in the SPFL?

Think the limit is 5 domestic loans and we currently have 2. So we can get 3 more.

They would have to be from the top flight too, as you can only loan players from a higher division during this window, I believe.

Lee Ashcroft, I think, is now back to playing second fiddle to Rickie Lamie. I'm not sure how that one flies given we have used all our loans?

Edit- In fact, what is the maximum? I thought it was 6 but I have seen info online that it is 7.

Pretty sure it’s 5 domestic loans at any given time. So you can have 5 guys join on loan until January, then another 5 from January. So Sharp won’t be counted in the figures. Guys from Blackpool/Cardiff don’t count as domestic loans either.

Cheers mate. Genuinely not convinced he’s what we need. But I really hope I’m wrong. Looks like he’s been injured a lot and we need guys that will stay fit and play every week. We also create zero chances and our strikers get zero service, so that doesn’t sound like it’ll suit his style of play?

If everyone was fit, he’d probably be ideal to play with Todd running beyond him. But our current (fit) midfield options aren’t exactly going to be making runs in behind. We also already have McCann and a 6’2 striker we signed on loan in January to be a physical presence/nuisance for defenders, without scoring much.

It might just be one of these signings that just works out though and there’s no obvious reason for it. Fingers crossed, for everyone, that proves to be the case.
