Nicky Low a very underrated  player. Where is he now? Thought he could play at a higher level but was injury prone I think…..

I watched Nicky a few weeks back. He was playing for Clydebank against Beith. Still has a wand of a left foot.

I would gladly accepted a wee b*****d that is happy to get stuck in, win the ball and lay it off to smeone else and protect the defence.

Absolutely. We desperately need a Nicky Low or Ryan McCord type in the midfield. We now have some forwards but no creativity.

  3. Yesterday was embarrassing and unacceptable. A real shame for the players who may have had their last game at Gayfield.

There have been some really thoughtful comments on our current situation. Comments about the performances of Hylton and Gaston are pretty accurate. We saw some incredible match winning displays.

The root cause of our decline has been the recruitment. The new manager has made a really positive start to rectifying that. He needs to be allowed to compete his signings. I’m optimistic that we’ll then start the next season with a competitive squad. If that doesn’t translate into results on the pitch within weeks then JM will be gone one way or another. I’m in no doubt.

  4. The same information in the Sun (it was on the bar, I didn’t buy the Sun). Saying that he had offers and would decide in the Summer.

It’s very hard to see him getting a better part time offer particularly with training now in Edinburgh. East Fife would need to stretch their pay structure and we know how badly that can affect the dressing room atmosphere. It could only be someone like Alloa of Falkirk and again, it’s hard to see how he would be better off. A huge favourite at Gayfield, would he risk a move at 33?

I would rather everyone stayed up - L1 would be much harder with either Inverness or QP - QP especially have money to chuck at a decent FT team next year.

Would rather take our chances with a Hamilton team staying down after they’ve not managed to come up this season. Imagine that would have affected their budget going into next season and would keep the overall division a bit tighter than what a QP or Inverness potentially would

Agree apart from the total aversion some of us have for returning to Hamilton after our treatment there 2 seasons ago.

  6. A brilliant signing. A proven part time striker who has experience across the Scottish leagues.

it’s refreshing to have these announcements without the daft precursors we’ve been used to in recent years.

The performances on the pitch have been disappointing but I think the work done behind the scenes is promising. I guess the Jimmy Boyle connection with Airdrie may have helped to swing this one.

Lichties heresy alert: McKenna has been a great player for us and certainly has a great attitude and fighting spirit, but after a couple of mediocre seasons and at 33 years old would it be so bad if he moved on?  Please understand that I’d prefer him to stay.

I think we’d all love him to stay. Always a Lichtie legend for his crucial part in our best Championship season. I feel sure he’s been offered a good deal to stay on at Gayfield. He would be great back in L1. At 33 it may suit him. If he chooses to take a better offer then he goes with my blessing and would hopefully free some funds for fresh talent.

I came on here a good while back saying that it was a bad appointment and that McIntyre would do nothing to improve the club - especially with regards to the team bonding that is so important.  Everyone on here will know who they are but there were regular posters on here that repeatedly refused to acknowledge it was in any way McIntyre’s fault and that he was placed in an impossible situation.

I wonder if they will finally acknowledge they were wrong about him?  Alternatively I assume they still have faith in him turning this around next season?

No faith, but I still think it’s too early to tell.

  9. A nice day in the sunshine at Somerset Park. We started well and could easily have been ahead if we’d taken our chances. The dodgy penalty started a collapse and it went downhill from there.

As Simon has already said, we were bettered in every area. Outmuscled, outplayed and outclassed. The midfield especially was overpowered. Murphy and Mitonda, both international players were impressive.
Our best defenders, ToB Hammy and Ricky were sitting with the Lichtie fans which was good to see.

It’s fortunate that we have so few players signed for next season as I really think we need a massive squad overhaul if we’re to compete in L1.

On next season - as far as I can tell

    Signed -

ToB - CH - if fit a great player to have here. I feel like he will end up at East Fife with his second Da however.

Aaron Steele - CH - very good player to have

Gordon Walker - RB - hmmm, think he will probably be decent in L1

Craig Slater - CM - think he will be a good player in L1

David Gold - CM - the one real player who gets it - if ToB leaves then captain material for me

Inness Murray - Midfield - I think if he gets match fit he will be a really good player for us next season

Mark Stowe - Winger - I think in L1 he could really come on and be a decent player for us

Leighton McIntosh - ST - as good as you could want as striker PT level

That’s a decent core to build from. Already discussed at length but if Gaston / Little / McKenna / Stewart and Darren Lyon signed on top of that (no idea how many if any will be here) then we would be in a good place squad wise.

I don’t think Leighton is a done deal. Options I was told.

He should be an absolute priority for a L1 campaign. Also a striker to replace Jay who will surely be moving on.

  11. Article in the Courier today making it clear that Jim McIntyre has the confidence of the Board and will lead us into next season. He outlined his vision for the L1 campaign which includes a purely part time squad. At least the contentious hybrid approach has been binned. Can’t think many will argue with that. If he’s going to succeed then the fans need to be onside. I’d hope that there will be some significant engagement like a Q and A session before the end of the season.

  12. I suspect the Club is likely to give things until Saturday before making a decision on the management. All the concerns that have been raised seem to be building to the same conclusion. If we had seen some real signs of progress then things would be different.

The critical issue now is next season. Do the Board, players and fans have confidence in the manager? Summer signings are already being discussed including existing players who might not want to stay unless things change. Will season ticket sales hold up? Definitely some big calls needed.

I’d probably echo what 1320 has said about sticking with Mcintrye regardless, although I can’t really shake off how awful we have been defensively under him. Tue shambles he inherited went well beyond just lack of players and the changes that have been made might take some time to make a difference, it was quite obvious we were desperate for personnel in January, I’m not convinced these are players he would’ve been getting in if he had a choice.

Agree that Jim McIntyre had very limited options and time to get bodies in during January. No great surprise that it turned out to be a mixed bag.

I seem to be in a minority in thinking that Gordon Walker has looked decent in recent games. A bit of pace, some decent passing. I think he’s signed for next season.

    Watched the highlights this morning.

1st goal was a great hit. Stewart inches away from getting the ball but misses. Defending just not good enough with players quite static.

2nd goal. Great freekick. Gaston unlucky. Its just one of those shots that was hit with enough power and curl that it squeezes in.

3rd goal. Dunfermline player doesnt waste much time whipping the ball back into the box, Gold just not quick enough to close him down and caught out by the quick hit. Dunfermline had done something similar on the 30 min mark which we were lucky to clear. Ball whipped in with pace and dip that is very hard to judge as its behind the defence and dipping too quick for keeper to come and rush for.

Those 3 goals killed the game for us. We did threaten in the first half and the game was closer than the scoreline suggested.

Tactically we were setup 4-4-1-1 which was probably right. We could have went with Bird up top, McIntosh on the wing (R or L) and put Stewart to RB in place of Walker. But would have left practically nothing on the bench to come on to change things.

To me McKenna was a mixed bag. Not as much drive and touch was poor at times and corners were good and bad in the first half. A lot better in the 2nd half with the corners leading to the 2 goals. Now to him coming off....... and fans not happy.

At that moment Gold had to come off injured with Slater set come on. Its 3-2 and fans have been moaning to get 2 up top. Now McIntyre could just make the 1 sub or bring on the extra attacker aswell. Will have to change the formation to accomodate going 2 up top so someone has to go off. Fans saying it should have been MacKinnon off but Jim would have been reluctant to replace both CM players with Slater on and McKenna dropping back. MacKinnon would have been training and instructed to know what to do in that role.

So going from 4-4-1-1 to 4-4-2 was much simpler by replacing McKenna and Gold with Bird and Slater. Keeps better continuity in the midfield but adding more firepower up top and Slater could take the set pieces (I know, not as good). Leaving Jim 1 more time to make 2 more subs if needed (Later Dow for Stowe). Purely a tactical change. If Gold had not come off injured MacKinnon for Bird and McKenna dropping back to CM might have happened.

In the end we left too much to do in the 2nd half. Dont think for the most part the tactics or subs were wrong either.

Thanks for that. Can you do the post match interview, please?

Nice to read some decent football chat on this page after some of the nonsense of late.
