  1. With one (defensive) sub made late in the game, it's clear we weren't pushing too much to try and win. I think that makes perfect sense given the form we had going into the game - the change in shape was a defensive improvement and it would have been demoralising for the team to come away with nothing.

I'm not sure if that exact line-up is best for Queen's Park next week l, but at least Williams should keep his place. He's been long overdue a return to the team.

  2. Doolan's approach seems to be just to attack the division we're in and give teams no respect with not much regard to tactical intricacy.

This has worked in the sense that we're comfortably in the play-off positions and, unlike under McCall, there aren't many games where we look like we could play all day without scoring regardless of how shite the opposition are (see those brutal home defeats to Cove and Hamilton last season).

There's an obvious barrier when we come up against anything resembling top-flight quality, like Dundee United, Hearts, or Joel Nouble yesterday.

On balance, I'm happy with our lot just now. Between the Old Firm and VAR, top flight football is shite anyway.

I was expecting a defeat before the game and even more so at half time, so happy to take the point.

As mentioned by others, our subs changed the game in our favour. You can credit Doolan for making those changes, but quite why we were starting with such a pedestrian midfield in the first place is beyond me. Alston offered nothing and Stanway and/or McBeth were surely better options to start.

That must have been a world record for the amount of times a whistle has been blown by an attention seeking c**t in a single football match. About 17 consecutive blasts of the whistle are not required to call for a single stoppage ffs.

    17st6 was the damage. Shit.

Not the heaviest I have been, but that's the only positive. Over a stone up since last July and 5lbs heavier than I was at this point last year.

Day 1 of the diet. I have done it before and I can do it again. But really the thing holding me back is a lifestyle that has become too inactive, which needs to be addressed in tandem. I could do with adding in some running (which I absolutely hate), but needs must. Will incorporate some weights as well but trying to work out how it can be done on a defecit aiming to shed 2lbs a week without ending up burning muscle as getting enough protein might be challenging. Might need to up the calories a bit for that.

If you hate running, then I wouldn't bother doing it. There will inevitably come a point where you think the better of it on a pishing cold day (as any sane person would) and it would be easy to become demotivated at that point if you're associating running with your overall progress. For cardio, I would just stick to walking and/or the elliptical in a warm gym with some music.

On lifting weights, I wouldn't worry too much about gaining/burning muscle, but trying to build strength. For each of the basic movements, pick a weight where you'll fail between 8-12 reps on the first set and aim to add weight or additional reps to that first set on your next session. It's possible to gain strength while on a deficit and muscle gain will likely follow.

  5. Villa are all over the place and that has been coming for some time. They just needed to sit deep and cigar their way through the rest of the game, but have been committing players forward and struggling to keep the ball.

Still expect Man U to concede at least one more shanner though.

I don't agree with this at all. We are scoring at more than 2 a game already. 33 goals scored in 16 games. Attack is not a problem.

Conceding 26 goals in those 16 games (the joint worse defence outside the bottom 2) is a problem though. I would much rather sign a good DM (possibly 2) than either Tiff or Turner.

My point is whether accommodating a DM in the team would allow us to keep up that same rate of goalscoring, or if we'd be trading off an extra body in attack.

It all depends on the quality of player who may be available in January which I've no idea about, but whatever we're doing now has us on course for a comfortable top 4 finish and I wouldn't be keen to mess about with it too much.

  7. Having the option of a decent DM would be welcome, but I'm becoming less convinced that it's a necessity and definitely not if it's at the expense of signing someone of e.g. Turner or Tiffoney's quality in January, should that opportunity come up.

Our position in the league is down to our attacking quality and I'd be reluctant to trade that off too much, especially when there's not many teams in the league who merit that kind of respect and when we have Neilson and Williams who could fill there if needed.
