Dundee Utd are imo out of it due to who they play.

Although both teams playing fairly well at the mo, us and the perth tories might well nullify each other so I think a draw is likely on Saturday.

That was long winded but I pretty much concur with your assessment.

I agree, and Dundee Utd have a much worse goal difference too. It would be possible for them to take 4 points and if we lost our 2 games to draw level on points. They'd also need a 10 goal swing. Seems pretty unlikely.

I'm pretty confident 1 point will be enough but obviously you'd like to take more and like has been said, it's a nice position to be in knowing that we're be pretty comfortably away from the dog fight at the bottom.

    Erwin starts I fucken despair.

The players have played a lot of games recently and their needs to be rotation. A fully fit, rested squad and Erwin doesn't start.

Also, it's not like the guy is a liability. He doesn't offer enough for me but he has chipped in with a couple of goals despite being a bit part player. He's got a point to prove today. Let's hope he takes it.

    Nah, can't agree with that.

2 points clear in top 6 with 3 to play. 2 games against bottom and 3rd last placed team to come.

JDH and McGrath back sooner than we thought- Quaner to possibly be back on Saturday.

    Keep the faith FFS.

We're 3 points ahead of St Johnstone, who play Hamilton (a), Hibs (h) and Ross County (h).

If we can get 4 points then St Johnstone would need to take 9, or maybe 7 and it would go to goal difference.

Dundee Utd play, Kilmarnock (a), Celtic and Aberdeen (h).

I think 4 points will be enough and I think that's achievable. Do you know what, even if St Johnstone or Dundee Utd pip us to the last place we've had a very good season and improved massively from last year.

  4. I'm always suspicious when opposing fans say that we'll win comfortably.

We're still down to the bare bones. I'm not sure if Quaner will be able to make a short cameo? Probably a bit too soon for him. Has there been any word on Mason?

Our home form hasn't been great, last 3 away games (Pittodrie, Parkhead and Tannadice) we've picked up 7 points. Last 3 home games (Livingston, Hamilton and Celtic) we've picked up 2.

I could see another draw here.

Injuries, fixture pile up and conditions all lead to that, imo, although we shouldn't allow that to paper over the cracks that this and the Hamilton game were a gilt edged chance to cement a top 6 slot.

That said, Livi have failed to beat us in the league (and only just edged past us in the cup). They are currently the best of the rest just now so in many ways that's not a bad yardstick to compare ourselves to - especially when comparing it to our previous seasons in the relegation zone.

I think this nails it. Progress for St Mirren this year would to be an arms length from the relegation battle, we're more than that. Today wasnt great to watch but there's a lot factors in play. We've had a great season so far and should recognise that.

  6. That second half was turgid. The conditions were terrible but other than one well worked piece of play we had from a throw in it was really poor stuff. Our final ball was awful.

I understand wanting to change the formation in the second half, as Livingston were very comfortable but Macpherson off for Erwin was a dreadful substitution. Macpherson was our biggest goal threat. Erwin was terrible, I don't like to slaughter individual players but he really offers so little.

Some tired bodies out there and a pitch cutting up badly, not a great game but a reasonable point.

  7. Fair scoreline. As has been said, Livingston's crosses have been dangerous but apart from Sibbald's effort from outside the box Alnwick has had nothing to do. Likewise with McCrorie, one save from outside the box.

Dreadful goal for us to lose, I'm not convinced it was a foul, both players had a hold of each other's shirt, but we have to defend it better. Reilly has been cute a few times in the game and won a couple of soft fouls. McCarthy needs to be smarter though. Not a great header from Tait and hits McCarthy and end up in the net.

We need to get Connolly more involved as he has the beating of their defence.

From my recollection Reilly had a contract offer open for months and he'd decided against signing it, despite it being clear we were going up as champions. Stubbs is a dick of that there is no doubt, but imo it was Reilly's decision not to sign the extension.

Personally I don't really rate the lad. He was a decent Championship level player, but I'm not convinced he will bag more than 4 or 5 a season in the top league. Of course, cue him chucking in a brace against us today.

I think you're right but Stubbs came in and withdrew the offer. I think players are within their rights to hold off on signing contracts to see if better offers come in.

I don't think many people would've worried too much if Stubbs had actually brought replacements in for the players he showed the door to. Instead he signed a bunch of players who were miles off it.

I think Reilly is a decent signing for. Livingston though, he won't play every week but when he does he'll bust a gut and will be a nuisance for defenders.

How do you know Eastons foot was in that position when the ball was struck?

How can you tell that Obika isn't leaning beyond Easton?

That angle is absolutely shite for trying to determine whether he's offside or not IMO.

I actually agree with this. They're both leaning in different directions, it's impossible to say with certainty whether he's on of offside from that still.

  10. I thought Erwin did OK at times tonight but I agree on his first touch. Even when trying to hold the ball in, too often it just bounces off him and we lose possession.

Fair play to Hamilton they put in a shift and for most of the second half they were the better side. Anderson looks a useful player.

It was high energy from both teams for most of the game, we really lacked someone like Doyle Hayes or McGrath to put their foot on the ball though. Flynn did that when he came on to a degree.

Sod's law that months went by where we had central midfielders (Foley and Sheron) pretty much surplus to requirements and now that we've let them go......

On the safe standing, the club is big on maximising "income streams". I reckon there could be a decent number of teenagers who might be tempted to come if there was the novelty of standing at the game with their mates. Where else would they have the option? Arthurlie? Capture them at that age and they'll put cash into SMFC for decades to come.

You're right on this. I wonder though if they turned W7 into a standing area, would that impede the view of some folk in W6?
