  1. I would agree with Nightmare in most of the above in regards operations at the club. I think we are moving in the right direction, Ian Maxwell, Beattie and Archie are all working hard...no one would doubt that. The professionalism is growing every season we compete and the structure is improving, plus financially we are in a good position only spending within our means. It has to stay that way. No doubt ICT and St Johnstone are clubs that we need to emulate. But one other major difference of Jags to these two teams is geography. Both ICT and Saints have their own city to themselves in Perth and Inverness. They have a bigger community to pull from with no other club competition. We have Rangers, Celtic and a whole host of teams like us in the greater Glasgow area etc...pulling from the same city as Jags making it really tough The sad fact is that people still culturally and traditionally support the old firm teams and we will always be up against that. Our noisy neighbors have 10 times the support on a Saturday home game and thousands more wanting to watch on TV rather than support a family club locally like the Jags. Perth and Inverness are both >100,000 in population and so ICT and Saints pull from their whole county and adjacent towns also. I know lads who live in Aviemore who support ICT and go to every game. 45 mins to an hour to the stadium and back every 2nd Saturday. How many other clubs are 45 mins to an hour from Firhill??? Lots unfortunately. Not to say we don't have loyal fans who travel an hour to Firhill but it becomes less so, should you live in Paisley and have St Mirren on your door step, or Lanark when Motherwell or Accies are closer. This is the main issue and given our situation compared to Caley and Saints I think the philosophy of trying to invest in North Glasgow community, the Weir Thistle academy etc...We are making headway. I do think communication with the club to the fans is better than most think in comparison to others, but yes sometimes clubs do take a while to listen to supporters, especially at board level. We're not too bad though I think. More than likely we will stay a yo-yo club but a club that will be more consistent in their relationship with the premier league. I don't think it will be nine years between promotions as long as the club stays consistent and allows the youth academy to the main source of players in the coming decades. This is our main investment and fruits will show the closer we get to 2020. It's by far and away the best decision the Jags made this decade.
  2. Very strange, but again very typical of the Jags. But it's probably $150K we didn't have before and gives Archie and the club a wee financial boost. Will be interested to see the new strip with that horrendous logo on it and the new mascot...totally agree that small children will be fleeing for their lives if his it looks anything like his artwork. Kingsley is a good name though. Lastly, Ian Maxwell continuing to do a good job in bringing Jags in line with what is necessary for long term financial and hopefully sports success. A solid growing youth academy, community impact and positioning of the club in North Glasgow and attracting investment. No complaints. Regan at SFA could take a leaf out of what Maxwell and some of the younger general managers of clubs are trying to achieve for their clubs.
  3. With the loss of Higgy actually another attacking midfielder is a good shout I reckon.
  4. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-32986950 Blatters worries just beginning. God Bless America!
  5. If Taylor also signs this week then I think we're in pretty good condition going into the new season. Where I think we lack is in a little more creative player options. Yes we have the wee gambler but fact is losing Higgy means it'd be nice to get in another attacking midfielder / winger who can slot in with Stevo and Lawless. Anyone at QOS or Falkirk we can steal!? Young and ready for step up!? Defensively other than right back we look good and signing of Tommy Cerna is great. So we are moving in right direction. Pretty happy overall.
  6. How does signing for Ross County make Gordon Strachan call you up and where are the trophies coming from!? I'm lost in Fox's thinking...
  7. I read Fox in the papers spouting about leaving Jags as he wants a Scotland career. I have a feeling he may have been tapped by Rangers...or am I off base on this? He says in January he knew he needed a fresh challenge but he is still 'looking' for that right and fresh challenge. Well if Rangers beat Well and are back in the SPFL maybe Rangers could be that challenge? It is not that far fetched and they'd be able to pay him more. I was listening to Radio Scotland this past weekend and all the pundits said none of the Rangers current GKs are good enough for the top league. McCall is planning on dumping Bell and Simonsen. Fox has had a good two years in Premiership, is young and has developed well. His stats are good. I can't see him getting a shot at the Scotland setup unless he gets a contract at one of the Old Firm or moves to English Championship or Premiership. I am doubtful of the latter...as I am not convinced he is good enough for that as of yet. Any ideas where he could land?
  8. Definitely disappointed in Craigen being released, especially if Welsh is staying on. Agree with previous comments along same lines. Craigen may lack that extra quality of one or two players we have but he's a top quality professional who worked his arse off for us the last three years. I wish him the very best. Plus that goal V Morton will never be forgotten! :-)
  9. I didn't see him being painted as an idiot but a young lad starting making a bold step in his career in a different culture. Nothing wrong with the piece. Won't win the Pulitzer but interesting for Scotland fans to hear how he is doing.
  10. Lol. I love that the bait was taken!
  11. I love the cheek of the b*stard FAI Writing to the SFA for more tickets when the allocation they have is fully acceptable for an away match. Plus they'll be more than 3000 there as there will be several thousand home tickets sold to McGeady type Cellic fans who are Scottish born Irish fans. Do they think we're all stupid? I hope we give them a good doing. But probably in typical Scottish fashion the Irish will get a draw or one goal win. I still think choosing Celtic park was a silly idea and Ibrox is a better location with Georgia game at Celtic making more sense. But anyway....
  12. Must win all home games or we won't qualify. We have to beat them. We've got 2 of the biggest away games done and were sitting in a good spot after 3 games. Tonight against Poland was potentially a massive point. A home win v ROI and we are going into some nice fixtures after that. I think the team are playing very good possession and dynamic football and we have a deeper squad than we've had for a while. No Snodgrass, Bardsley, Rhodes, McCormack, Hanley or really Darren Fletcher as he gains match fitness and we took a big stride tonight. Have some faith as 2 years ago with that list out and under Levein and we'd have been murder. I think we have to keep playing same team as long as no injuries permit it. Change only what you are forced too. Continuity will help us moving into November games. Gordon I am sure has a strategy up his sleeve.
  13. All respect for Jackie McNamara just went out the window...
