  1. I'll be absolutely amazed if we don't sign Miller, given he's quite obviously good enough for the league and I would hope that Archie is already in talks with him.

That would leave a striker being the main priority, as a good but unspectacular Doolan, a completely untested at this level Leyden and an out of position Stevenson simply isn't good enough.

That plus a couple of squad players (basically cover for full backs or attacking midfield) and we'd be more or less set.

  2. Take the piss all you want. It's kind of sad the aggression jags fans have on this board for no real reason other than maybe my make believe pals thinks it's cool. It would be good to see some decent debate and discussion but it looks like most of you don't have that capacity and want to keep your little clique of sh*tey banter. You've no idea who I am and who I know at the club or within Scottish football. I'm telling you what I know and giving my opinion based on that. Isn't that what forums are for?

Hide behind anonymity and cowardly mockery all you want. I think the board and Archie are doing a very good job and have very little resource. To finish 8th in Scotland is a very impressive and it's about The best we can achieve as a club at this moment. It's also a fact Scott Fox was offered 2k a week plus add ons and perks up at Ross County and we weren't going to match it. I also told you all Taylor wouldn't sign weeks ago and I was correct on that. So maybe I do know what I am talking about.

Wake up and smell the coffee folks. We all support the same team and want the same end result.

Are you not the boy who believed the Kenny Miller story not long ago?

  3. Ambition is to keep the club alive and in stable condition in a climate where there is actually less and less money available to clubs year on year. The club (headed by Maxwell) needs to work extremely hard to bring in revenue sources and keep them. I don't see why you all think a few extra grand means we can sign mediocrity like Lyle Taylor for 2k a week or keep Higgy or Fox.

Fact is we lost Scott Fox after Archie offered him an improved deal because Ross County gave him a better deal. Yes...Ross County! My sources said 2k a week and a house. Explain that one? Don't see how they can achieve that strategy long term but If that's their way then so be it.

I hate to offend many of you but you live in cloud coo-coo land if you think we as a club can compete with those around us and not get into financial difficulties. The long term goal of the club is to setup a view to the youth academy which will provide players and a club that works to the benefit of our community. No matter what division we play as we will not and cannot offer long term deals worth 2k or more a week.

I'd rather have Thistle in league 2 and stable than a club teetering on administration in the premiership because "the fans" wanted to see the players they wanted at the club.

We all know Archie has done very well with the resources he has available. He'll bring in 3-4 youngsters this coming season as he has no choice. We will continue to fight against relegation but maybe just maybe they surprise us and this academy takes off and we are a solid model for other clubs to follow.

You don't have any sources, shut up with your fantasist pish.

  4. Is that the boy that thought Aaron Muirhead was one of the best Thistle centre half's of all time? Cretin of the highest order.

Kevin McCann (RB) Livingston - Very solid defensively and likes to get forward whenever possible, can put a good cross into the box and is very composed on the ball. Formerly of Hibs, Morton and ICT (loan)

Steven McDougall (ST/W) Dumbarton - More of an Inside forward, blessed with a lot of ability, very good technically and would be a very useful impact sub. Should be playing for a bigger club than Dumbarton IMO. Previously of Dunfermline and Airdrie.

Burton O'Brien (CM) Livingston- Was MOTM against Thistle at Almondvale recently, lost his pace but still a player with great vision to pick out a pass and experience at a higher level with Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship where he was a first team regular.

    Ooft.

  5. Err...where are you getting that from? Ive hardly seen the guy make a mistake really for us. If he was a left back he would proably be punting Izzy out the team, its just unfortunate for him that he has had two very good right backs ahead of him.

Hes no world beater but he would easily get in most spl sides right now.

From the admittedly few times I've seen him play, he's looked fucking shite.

  6. So by my reckoning that'd be a forward four of:

    Amoo - Stevenson - Lawless

    Doolan

That really doesn't look too bad, and if we can get Taylor signed it'll be even better, with him in place of Doolan. If we can get him, a right back (is this wickham boy signing/a right back?) and a wee bit of depth in place we could have a really solid team this year.

  7. The actual signings by and large have been fine, but the trialists we have brought in outwith Osman have been overwhelmingly shite.

Precisely why they were brought in on trial rather than just being signed. The ones who Archie is sure are good enough just get signed, those he's not sure of come in on trial. It's not a difficult concept.

  8. Do we have any depth outside of weans ffs?

The thing that disappoints me is that even with the financial constraints we're still in the fucking slow lane every summer and leaving ourselves work to do come January. Surely to f**k this guy who is a scout down south could identify targets early who we can both afford and are potentially good enough rather than bringing trialists in and hoping something sticks, cause that by and large has been a total fucking failure the last two summers.

Well you've worked yourself into a state over f**k all.

We've made two signings already - Booth and Cerny. Both will be good additions to our squad. What's the problem with using youngsters for cover? If they're good enough then why does it matter?

And what exactly is the problem with taking a player on trial before signing them? Isn't it better that the management and coaching staff see him in person at training and in friendlies to get as in depth a look as possible before signing them?

  9. I wouldn't say they are. They've enjoyed a ridiculous run of good fortune to stay in the Premier as long as they have as well as spending money they didn't have. If we'd finished as high up in the league as much as they have and played in Europe, I dare say our crowds would be a fair bit better than the crowds they got.

    You're wrong. They are.

  10. Is James Craigen really a quality player or is the fact he's a nice guy make people think he's far better than he actually he is?

He's tidy enough and OK at everything bar goalscoring without being spectacular at much.

The nice guy thing might play a part, but is there really any doubt that he's good enough for Raith in the Championship?

Hope he does well for them.

  11. Our best chance of making transfer fees is to develop our own players and sell them on. Hopefully we have a decent batch of young players coming through; certainly McDaid, Wilson and Lindsay are good enough for next seasons squad. The majority of the young players we've developed have been more Jamie Campbell than Stuart Bannigan.

Lindsay in particular looks like he could be really, really good. Didn't look out of place at all when he's played for us and has good reviews from his loan spells. Would really like to see him given every opportunity in the starting line-up this season, which if Seaborne's injury problems keep up he should get. McDaid and Wilson should also get a chance, but Lindsay is the only one who looks ready to play most weeks from what I've seen.

  12. Is there a reason that Thistle seem to be losing quite a few of their best players to teams that finished around you in the league? Fox and Higginbotham, also SOD away to arguably a lower level. Is it just money?

Would imagine money has a fair amount to do with it. Think Killie can probably give Higgy a better deal (wages and length of contract) than we could. Luton got an average attendance of almost 9000 last year so are clearly a bigger club even if they are playing at a lower level just now, maybe SOD sees it as an opportunity to join a club which could be going places. And obviously Fox had his international career to think about.

Even still, we've replaced Fox with a superior player in Cerny, if the Halliday rumour is true then we'll have done likewise with Higginbotham. I have my doubts we'll be able to replace SOD with anyone better but as long as we get someone decent in then I'll be happy enough. I trust Archie's ability in making transfers as almost all his signings (minus some obvious exceptions like Baird or Kerr) have improved the squad.
