  1. I wish him all the best - he looked pretty good as last season progressed.
  2. Based on the last three home games, Faz is far too cagey (no really!) Whilst the wind dictated the Alloa and Arbroath games (proven by the stats 1st half v second half in both) today's match was unaffected by the weather. I have to disagree with those who have said that we looked worse after the substitutions. Mumbongo really has to start sometime soon. His close control is superb for a big guy and he always looks for the ball. From where I was sitting we pretty much dominated the game today - particularly in the second half, but the defence is a real cause for concern. It was so unrepresentative of the defending that Brett Long should be the victim of a Dalglish v Clemence scenario. Durnan is truly excellent but needs a partner. When all is said and done, the last three home games have yielded 14 goals and each has left me thinking that we should have won all of them.
  3. I meant to say with the above is it a case of damned lies and stats?
  4. It's good to see Cameron getting off to a good start. What we need though is a football man on the board. What about a club legend like, for example, Craig Brittain?
  5. The Sons have won a championship or gained promotion eight times in my life and I've had the privilege of being there for the decisive match for every one. I thoroughly enjoyed (endured?) last night. Well done to Stevie Farrell and a very decent squad. The elite band of Sons managers is: Jackie Stewart (2nd division championship 1971-72) Davie Wilson (Promotion to Premier League 1983-84) Billy Lamont (2nd division championship 1991-92) Murdo McLeod (promotion to second tier 1994-95) Tom Carson (promotion to third tier 2001-02) Jim Chapman (promotion to third tier 2008-09) Alan Adamson (promotion to second tier 2011-12) and now Stevie Farrell (promotion to third tier 2023-24).
  6. I was also sure I'd seen it hit the net but you'd think there would have been a bigger protest had that been the case.
  7. In order to provide some context, perspective and light and shade into the discussion, may I point out that in: 2001-02 we were beaten 5-0 at home to Montrose and 4-0 away to Peterhead and yet won promotion. 2008-09 when last in this league, we were defeated twice by East Stirlingshire at Firs Park, 5-2 and 3-1. We went on to win the league. 2011-12 we were defeated 5-1 at home by Stirling Albion and 4-0 by Cowdenbeath. We went on to win the play offs. EVEN in 1971-72, we were beaten 6-1 by Raith Rovers away and 4-2 by Stranraer at home and won promotion to the top league for the first time in 50 years. Supportring Dumbarton is not to be on an even keel. Of course none of the managers of these teams lasted in the post and only one was for something better. Keep the heid.
  8. I had a single issue with the young Sons, three years ago which was settled amicably by mutual compromise. I still go and continue sponsorship when I can and the Young Sons still go. The only thing I drank on Wednesday night was water. What exactly is it that you're unhappy about? The exhibition is excellent BTW.
  9. We won 9 consecutive games in 71/72*. The club record for consecutive victories is 15 which was set in 1905/06. As for being 8 points clear, I have no idea. I should have remembered that* of course. Nine is the target to equal a record set 50 years ago. 15 looks a tough one..
  10. Dumbarton supporters - Celebrating going 8 points clear after 6 games. East Fife supporter- Complaining and obsessing about some minor infraction committed by a former player. Using your skill and judgement, which club do you think is in the better place this evening?
  11. I'm surely not the only one to notice that Moreroom Extensions anagrams to Oor sexist Enron memo. And I am also bound to ask - WHAT Moreroom sponsorship money?
  12. Whilst the last 20 minutes were nerve wracking, we shaded the game. East Fife for their possession in the latter stages, didn’t create much. Buchanan and Carswell shone again and I don’t think Brett Long had a save to make. Byrne almost made it two a few minutes after his goal but was denied by the post. Difficult windy conditions prevailed over the fitba’ but a very good win and three points nonetheless.
  13. Here’s a couple of questions. Has Dumbarton FC ever, at any point, led a league by 8 points? Have we ever won 6 league games in a row? Does anyone know?
  14. Aitken was sitting two rows in front of me last night.
  15. All on the 50th anniversary of this match which confirmed our ascent to the top league in front of 9,800 at Boghead.
  16. It may be indecent to point out that the word used was the antonym of ascent.
