On Wednesday it'll be fifty years since I attended my first game at Boghead. It was a 7-0 victory against Stirling Albion and remains the only time I have ever seen the Sons win by a seven goal margin. My second game was a week later and the last of 70-71 season , a 4-1 victory against Queens Park. Before that, the only 2 Sons games I had attended were the two League Cup semi final matches against Celtic in October 1970 at Hampden. My first full season supporting Sons was the following 71-72 season when we gained promotion to the top league for the first time in 50 years. My parents bought me a season ticket and I attended every home game. Next year it'll be 50 years on from that. Phew!

I couldn't watch the game last night. This isn't any indication of my confidence, just availability - I had some work to do and had the radio on in the background. Derek Ferguson's updates were, I think spot on and he highlighted something thus: "Dumbarton have struggled to score many goals and watching this it's easy to see why. Carswell and Wedderburn want to take another touch and too much time instead of just looking for the pass". He said this at 1-0. I was reminded of a stat I heard this week that 75% of all goals from open play are scored within 10 seconds of gaining possession. Amazing what a decent result can do for confidence. Let's hope it carries forward to Saturday.

Honestly, I wonder if there is a more annoying duo on sports radio than John Collins and Craig Levein. Even if what Collins was saying wasn't utter shite ("You could see 2 or 3,000 Rangers/Celtic fans clicking through the turnstiles at Colts away games") his nasal whine actually makes me want to launch the radio out the nearest window. Levein, an unmitigated disaster in his last three football jobs, sounds like one of those pontificating teachers that you hated at school. All that's missing sometimes is "If you know what's good for you laddie!" Good on the dissenting voices of Jim MacInally and Richie Foster who at least provided some light and shade to counter the nonsense spouted by the gruesome twosome.

I see Duthie was banned for two years for testing positive for cannabis. The ban expired yesterday.

Whilst none of the names may be inspiring, you can't fault Sam Ramsbottom for trying. There's a few decent saves below but not a lot of catching going on. It's a funny old game though as Kevin Nisbet is reputed to have said when he was called into the Scotland squad today.

I was sad to hear of the passing of the captain of our 71-72 Championship winning side, Jack Bolton. A big centre half of the old school. He was 79.

The benefactor isn’t publicly known. He/she is mentioned in the club accounts as having assisted the club financially.

I think you may have got it wrong. Brabco is for sale. I would think it more likely that they would have a better chance to sell the better the situation of the club. However, without any viable plan to move location I can’t see anyone being interested in buying Brabco. Neil Rankine had the club for sale in a considerably more favourable financial climate than this for six years (widely advertised in The Times and elsewhere) and had interest only in the land. We have a reluctant owner but one who can’t really do anything to recoup their investment. A benefactor has stepped in to help. C and G Systems have taken the view that they can invest and try to improve the club, I don’t see any reason for us not to try to help them and the board. Even if Brabco were to continue as is, the Record article by Fraser Clarke I posted suggests that nothing will happen until 2024.

That planning consent was sought some time ago and it was just that. I don’t think there would be any concern from the holders of the C shares were there to be a sale of undeveloped land at the site. The purpose of the shares is to monitor sale of the land occupied by the stadium without an alternative being in place.
