  1. In order to provide some context, perspective and light and shade into the discussion,  may I point out that in:

2001-02 we were beaten 5-0 at home to Montrose and 4-0 away to Peterhead and yet won promotion.

2008-09 when last in this league, we were defeated twice by East Stirlingshire at Firs Park, 5-2 and 3-1.  We went on to win the league.

2011-12 we were defeated 5-1 at home by Stirling Albion and 4-0 by Cowdenbeath. We went on to win the play offs.

EVEN in 1971-72, we were beaten 6-1 by Raith Rovers away and 4-2 by Stranraer at home and won promotion to the top league for the first time in 50 years.

Supportring Dumbarton is not to be on an even keel.

Of course none of the managers of these teams lasted in the post and only one was for something better.

    Keep the heid.

People who follow this page will know. A certain individual took issue with the young sons who make a lot of noise, said he wouldn't be back, the club would lose his pre match hospitality money etc etc.... It's good to see that the young team have been encouraged to go to games, at home and on the bus. And he's still going...

I had a single issue with the young Sons, three years ago which was settled amicably by mutual compromise.

I still go and continue sponsorship when I can and the Young Sons still go.

The only thing I drank on Wednesday night was water.  What exactly is it that you're unhappy about?

    The exhibition is excellent BTW.

Here’s a couple of questions. Has Dumbarton FC ever, at any point, led a league by 8 points? Have we ever won 6 league games in a row? Does anyone know?

We won 9 consecutive games in 71/72*. The club record for consecutive victories is 15 which was set in 1905/06. As for being 8 points clear, I have no idea.

I should have remembered that* of course. Nine is the target to equal a record set 50 years ago. 15 looks a tough one..

Just back from EF loss to Dumbarton very close game. The end ruined by an absolutely childish display of aggression and utterly pathetic actions by Ryan Wallace. He wanted a square go with young Jack Healey who is about 7 stone soaking wet. What an utter fud. One day he may grow up and realise his behaviour today was that of a ned. Well done Dumbarton and EF gutted not to get anything from the game

Dumbarton supporters - Celebrating going 8 points clear after 6 games.

East Fife supporter- Complaining and obsessing about some minor infraction committed by a former player.

Using your skill and judgement, which club do you think is in the better place this evening?

We almost certainly have won 6 in a row at some time. Maybe 1971-2? And there was that season in the bottom division, 2008-09, we won 2-0 how many times in a row before trouncing Elgin 6-0 and then beating Annan away?

Most we won in a row in 2008/2009 was 5

  6. Whilst the last 20 minutes were nerve wracking, we shaded the game. East Fife for their possession in the latter stages, didn’t create much. Buchanan and Carswell shone again and I don’t think Brett Long had a save to make. Byrne almost made it two a few minutes after his goal but was denied by the post. Difficult windy conditions prevailed over the fitba’ but a very good win and three points nonetheless.

Eh? Didn’t like Murray? Ian Murray is the best manager I’ve ever had the pleasure of watching at Dumbarton. I think you’d be hard pushed to find a Dumbarton fan that isn’t delighted with what he achieved bar the handful of happy clappers (who don’t post on here) who didn’t take to him because he didn’t entertain their pish such as waving at them after games etc.

Stevie Aitken was well backed by our board and despite this managed to relegate us and left us sitting at the arse end of League 1 (we were favourites for the league that year). He had his moments but like I said, he had the biggest budget of any Sons gaffer I can remember, including Ian Murray. He got us to a cup final and tried to play for a 0-0. When he left us he made some really snidey comments about the club.

Duffy done well when he inherited Aitken’s squad, after that things went seriously south. He was completely out of touch with what sort of wages  were required to keep our better players so binned them off for exit trial rejects. He had extra money sitting there that he refused to use. Our sponsors had to step in and convince him to keep a couple of players he was willing to let go and they covered their wages outwith the playing budget. He left after leading us to 9th and scraping survival via the playoffs. His football was absolutely dreadful and the transfer windows were beyond depressing. We scored 14 league goals last season. I’ve nae idea why any Sons fan would’ve been happy with his tenure, we went backwards under him.

Stevie Farrell is the worst of the bunch. Bar a month long good run of form things have been absolutely horrible under him. He signed a decent enough squad, some of them on two year deals. When things got tough he didn’t have a clue what to do or how to man manage the players. Again we have gone backwards under him and we are about 99% certain to be a League 2 club next season. He shouldn’t be near a club at this level.

I’ve nae idea why youd expect anyone to be happy with managers that have us gradually moving backwards.

Aitken was sitting two rows in front of me last night.

Gilbert was part of the old school that saw innovation as something Dumbarton didn't do. He was also working for Brabco as much as he was working for the club in terms of the proposed stadium move.

In Gilbert's defence, during his spell as Chief Executive the club got to the Championship and stayed there. - our most succesful period in nearly 40 years.

Can only echo what Wilf has said about John Hosie.  A well-respected figure throughout Scottish football, who made an immense contribution to Dumbarton FC.  His son is also a Sons man through and through, who has served the Club well for many years.  As for John's nephew...........sadly that's a different story!

    Aye sorry nephew not grandson.

Hosie having any sort of power down there is fucking criminal. Mind when folk told us not to worry because the Hosie's are a great bunch of lads?

To be fair, I don’t recall anyone saying that. I think those of us who remembered  John Hosie and his immense contribution to Dumbarton FC from the 1950s through the 60s and 70s thought initially, that his son and grandson might be people who had DFC at heart. John Hosie was “Secretary” of the club but he was in fact much more than that. He was CEO, Human Resources Officer and Director of Football. He was also repair man, janitor and floor sweeper. I knew him personally and he was a determined, focussed and often grumpy wee man. He was in charge at the club during its most successful years (by far)  of the 20 the century. Under normal circumstances, one might think that a grandson of such a person might not be a bad guy to be involved - particularly with his uncle having served the club well too. Many clubs have had successive generations involved in admin and ownership. In the clear majority of cases that has meant sons and grandsons honouring family tradition and trying to act in the best interests of that club. I think many of us hoped that would be the case at Dumbarton.

We've not punted the Rock for houses yet. If planning permission had been granted for Youngs Farm we would have, but all that has been applied for at the moment is building of flats on our car park, which was always a possibility.

    It’s 5 houses and 32 flats.
