  1. It seems you conveniently forget that Adamson came to be in charge of a third tier club. The promotion to the championship was on his watch. As for players falling out with managers and morale being low, I know of several players who couldn't stand Paul Martin, Gerry McCabe and Brian Fairley, with only the latter of these having had any success in his time at the club.Chappie despite getting us out of the bottom tier left the club after numerous bust ups with players. Ross Clark, Dennis Wyness, Michael Moore, the forward from Berwick (can't remember his name just now) were just a few of them. Anyway that's all past and like you I think the appointment of an assistant is crucial. I'd like to see an old head coming in. It might suit someone looking for a route back into the game. Eta - Darren Gribben was the name I couldn't remember.
  2. Garry wins more in the air than Nish ever did. Anyone who thinks that the recent slump in form is down to Nish's absence is really stretching the imagination. He really only had a few good games this season. I thought he was outstanding against Cowden in our 3-1 victory there but for some reason he put in some effort that day - an effort not much in evidence on other days. Criticism of the 'full backs' when they are being asked to play an unfamiliar role is unfair. Craig Brittain couldn't play wing back, that was why Paul Martin dropped him. Murray has to either sign players who can play that system or sacrifice it.
  3. A rather terse and factual statement on the OS about Nish. Clearly the club feels they are well rid.
  4. If Jack Ross was the brains then why didn't that show in the first half of our first season in this league under Alan Adamson? Why such a turnaround when Murray took over?
  5. This photo of the Sons Siro is by Michael Moffat.
  6. Does he still have a pair of boots? And will you change your ID?
  7. Assistant manager at Celtic, Aberdeen, Newcastle and Hibs previously. Great coach and hundreds of contacts in the game. Just saying.
  8. Might be a good shout. Don't laugh at this one but from a high level experience angle, what about Tommy Craig?
  9. Surely there are plenty of experienced guys who could step in as assistant? Not Nish please!
  10. It previously was and raised them £2.5 million which saved the club when they sold it as part of the deal for Billy Bowie to come in. Not relevant to DFC - we ain't building anything.
  11. Maybe they should have. Kilmarnock's is very profitable.
  12. Schadenfreude is not a good reaction in a situation like this. Stenny are not the only wee club struggling and a cup run or selling a player ( rare these days I know) can keep the wolf from the door. If Stenny are struggling then that's a warning signal. One source of income they have is from hiring Ochilview out to East Stirling. I don't know how much they make from that but Albion Rovers charged us £1,000 a game for far inferior facilities fifteen years ago. If that were the figure then they have at least an £18k start on the rest of us, Also, given that we have spent much of the last 20 years at a similar and sometimes lower level than them, it ill becomes us to be sneering at them. (Sorry on iPad app which doesn't give full info. Just realised that the comment was from a Cowden fan)
  13. I'm assuming that with Murray's inside knowledge he doesn't think Riordan could do a job. I just think that if he had a chance and was even 70% of the player he was he'd be able to score goals in this league. Or maybe like O'Connor he's left his future behind him?
  14. OK then, all we need is someone to buy them out. Simple.
  15. That explains it! The David Jackson I knew definitely signed for Sons but wasn't there long.
  16. David Jackson was a couple of years ahead of me at Hermitage. He later played in the highlands - I think for Brora Rangers. He was a bit of a lad and could certainly handle himself. ETA It doesn't look like David Jackson in that photo btw. I just checked and it was Brora he ended up at http://www.northern-times.co.uk/Sport/Football/Brora-Legends-top-the-bill-29032012.htm
  17. I'm not privvy to Gilbert Lawrie's arrangements with Brabco or DFC. However just as his role at DFC is down to his expertise in football administration matters going back to the 80s, I'd be surprised if his role at Brabco is not that of chief executive due to his expertise in land and property matters. I won't always jump to Gilbert's defence, I've had many differences of opinion with him over the years. I think sometimes his PR could be better for example. However I will defend him from what is sometimes unjustified criticism because knowing him well over 30 years I have no doubt of his credentials as a Sons fan. You're right clubs go through peaks and troughs. Our most recent trough lasted for around a quarter of a century, the only bright spots in that were times where Rankine wasn't involved - eg the Murdo promotion season when he was serving his time as a bankrupt. "EDIT - What is Brabco's option if Gilbert and the board do block a move? Sell our land? Just like Rankine?" I have no idea but I'd suggest Brabco's stewardship compares very favourably with Rankine's. It might have all just happened despite them and by some fluke. That is of course a possibility.
  18. 'What about Rankine' is absolutely key. Rankine had the club advertised for sale for more than 5 years. He wanted out and one choice for him was to simply sell the ground. By there being no interested party in the club, the chance of Rankine taking the latter option increased as time went by. You clearly don't know Gilbert Lawrie as the idea of him being told what to do is quite amusing. I have misgivings about Brabco, particularly in light of Bet Butler's demise, I'm also uncertain about the stadium move. However not everything fits the idea that the club's improved status has spontaneously happened because of dedication and hard work. We had hard working dedicated local people involved before. What's changed?
  19. They have contributed nothing, not a penny to DFC? I understand that Brabco pick up the tab for the chief exec's salary..... Of course we have a hard working board, manager and players. All I ask is, would our current relative success have happened under Rankine's stewardship? Or without the input of our chief exec? I think not.
  20. Regardless we got promoted convincingly and on merit under the rules. I'm not certain what point OK3 was trying to make here.
