  1. There was still half an hour to play, and the game was at 0-0. There's no way that decision was made on anything other than who McGlynn thinks was the best available player. BRS has fallen below Arnott in the pecking order, and frankly I'd be surprised if he got it back now. He's had his chances and sadly just hasn't done enough.
I don't think Spencer's absence necessarily creates a selection conundrum, though. I suspect we'll go back to McGlynn's preferred shape, that he's used in all of our other home games, and he'll use Matthews and Tait at the base of midfield with a three in front of them. Although I suppose that's contingent on having Connolly and Ross available, and would mean Bene dropping back out again.
I'd certainly have Tumilty back into the starting line up too. If we don't have Ross or Connolly I suppose Musonda goes into the base of midfield and Tait goes into the three, but I've no idea what we do if we don't have either. You probably have to find a way to incorporate Varian and Poplatnik because otherwise we just don't have enough forward thinking players.

Ross seemed absolutely fine when he came on, on Saturday.

That’s not to say he won’t pick up an injury in training this week. But at the minute I’m not worried about him missing out.
  2. So we are twice as like to concede a goal when he is on the park. That is really not good.

That’s hardly surprising and he’s not the only one at fault for this but of the 14 goals that we’ve conceded in the 12 league games, 12 of those 14 have been conceded after the 70th minute mark.

Only QotS in the 1-0 home defeat and Dunfermline in the 1-1 away draw last Tuesday managed to score before the 70th minute and even then it was still the 2nd half.

So we’ve only conceded once in the first half all season in the league. Which is absolutely fantastic but we need to start coming out the 2nd half and playing the same way.
  3. It's a fair question giving him a 3 year deal was a massive gamble.  Realistically we can't afford to do this but there might be clauses etc and if you factor in medical costs it's madness.
It's a damn shame for the guy but we cannot sustain this forever.

If the club end up releasing Vaughan, the backlash would be unbelievable and they could see their average attendance more than half due to boycotts etc

    Have a word with yourself.
  4. Our top scorer is injured and I don't think any of the rest of the team are a reliable bet for a goal.  Personally I'd rather we had Dunfermline's front 3 than Connolly, Zanatta and Varian but they do seem to be a bit of a mess defensively. If they stick to their recent formation hopefully we can get at them down the flanks through Tumilty and Dick.
Hopefully the extra 2 days rest and preparation time doesn't work in their favour.

Connolly has been decent but Zanatta has been brilliant since coming in this season.

Better than the 2 players we lost in those positions imo.

My guess is that you haven’t seen much of them yet though, as that’s the only way you could have formed your opinion.
  5. Sorry, but if you post your opinion publicly on social media then it’s fair game for it to be shared as an example of the utter relentless negativity of the Rovers support. The boy has put his name to it so it’s not as if he’s anything to hide.
Mind you, you didn’t have to travel over to Twitter to find Rover’s fans needlessly hating on the team. It’s all over the match thread. There has always been miserable c***s in our support but it appears to have reached absolute parody levels. Some folk seem to be actually willing the side to fail.

It is however very cowardly to come on to a football forum and hide behind an alias whilst slagging off someone on twitter when he could easily have replied direct to him on Twitter.
  6. Teams that can't hold on to a 4 goal lead tend to struggle. It's not rocket science.
Even Morton managed to beat Accies, but not us.
The fact is that this is the worst set of summer signings we've made since Locke, and we know how that turned out.

There aren’t many teams in this league in a better state than we are.

I’ll take my hat off to you though, this is a massive state to get yourself in over 1 freak result that won’t happen again for years [emoji23]
  7. Which is depressing news. We weren’t particularly productive with that formation on Saturday, and previous to that we had Vaughan and Keatings up top together, and showed some nice push forward. 1 forward was a ball and chain last year, I certainly hoped to see a bit more attacking nous this year. Now, having said that, we’ll probably shell them.

More attacking nous than when? Last season when we were banging 5 goals in against half the league?

We played well on Saturday. That would have almost certainly been a defeat in previous years as we don’t beat teams in this cup.
  8. There is absolutely no chance we finish in the playoffs; my guess would be 6th/7th which is reasonable given the competition.

Every single team will still make a few signings whether it be permanent or loan signings. Apart from losing Hendry, I’m happy with the rest of the summer business so far. Liam Dick will be able to fulfil the Kieran MacDonald role. I’m sure Aidan Connolly can turn up for 1 in every 7 games that Armstrong did. I reckon Keatings will be a quality signing for us. We’ll still have a few loan signings to come. And they’ll more than likely be a CM, a winger and a striker. There is no need to panic as there’s still almost 6 weeks til our first league game.

So how anyone can suggest where each team will end up when the majority of the teams still have a third of potentially their starting lineup to fill, I’ll never know.
  9. Not sure we’ll sign a big striker or two versus seek a couple on loan. We need a right winger more than a left, but I’d still take Ross.
Striker, especially Big Striker or No.9 is one of the easiest positions to fill, and the most difficult to fill well. There are acres of candidates and damn few successful players, so it’s a game of panning for gold or offering to play alchemist for a bigger team. Don’t suppose Fulham would like to loan us Bowie, would they?
As for 4 or 3/5 in back, let’s look at something…the team (excludes JMac)
    3 Keepers signed
5 CB and 2 FB signed
5 Mids signed (although Coulson is generally seen as a LW)
    3 CF, 1 LW, 1 RW
So the defenders total 35% of our signings, the CB’s alone are 25%. To me that says 4-3-3 or 3-5-2, and the latter would (in my opinion) better support JMcG preferred build from the rear strategy.

  10. Up front I wonder if Gullan's time is up at Hib's, yes he's got a year left on his contract but so has Stevenson and we are linked with him, speaking of Stevenson I wouldn't say no but it's now looking more and more like it's Liam Dick that coming, but will it be just him?

Other than on PnB, where else have we been linked to Stevenson? The person that linked us with Stevenson on here a couple of weeks ago wasn’t being serious [emoji28]
