  1. Knox blew it over Mac.

MIX-UP ... James McCarthy Pic: Lynne Cameron/EMPICS Sport

THE man who tipped Scotland off about James McCarthy last night told Archie Knox to admit he blew the opportunity to snare the highly-rated midfielder.

George Gray McCarthys adviser and family friend shot down Knoxs claims in SunSport that he didnt snub Wigans £3million man.

Knox was SFA youth supremo three years ago when McCarthy failed to win a place in the Scotland set-up.

The veteran star-spotter insisted hed been told McCarthy had already decided to play for Ireland.

But last night Gray hit back: At the time Archie didnt think he was good enough.

I know this because he was sitting beside me watching him.

I wrote his name down on a piece of paper as I didnt want him thinking it was James McArthur he was watching rather than James McCarthy.

No ones crying over this mess, but Archie should just put his hands up and admit he made a mistake.

I have known him for years and Im not going to fall out with him over this.

But for him to say James had chosen the Republic of Ireland first is just NONSENSE. I warned Archie at the time James had an Irish grandfather and this could come back to haunt him.

A week later I was in the boardroom at Accies with Bill McMurdo when he told me Archie didnt fancy James.

That was his choice to make but it was only AFTER that the chance to play for Ireland came up.

Gray, who has been with McCarthy since he made his debut at just 15, added: Im a proud Scot and want the best players but Archie didnt rate him. Scotland could have had him if they wanted.

Its just a real crying shame they didnt.

You claimed Archie Knox never picked him for sectarian reasons.

Reading that, it seems Archie Knox made a mistake in not spotting a 15yr old potential talent.

Celtic also had the chance to sign him before he went to Wigan. I'd consider that an even bigger f**k-up than Archie's.

  2. Bullshit, both had the opportunity to play for Scotland, both said no for one reason or another.

Aiden McGeady had actually turned out for Scotland at youth level, but was unable to represent them further after he signed for Celtic. The club forbade any young player from turning out for their school side while the SFA at the time refused to select players who weren't affiliated to a schools team.

Due to this impasse McGeady believed he would just concentrate on his club career until he was older but a phone call from ex Celtic goalkeeper Pat Bonner inviting him to an Irish youths get together changed all that.

McCarthy's path to Ireland may have been less circulatory but it caused an even greater ill will amongst the tartan army. The story goes that he was overlooked for a Scotland under 17 squad in 2007 despite being watched by both Archie Knox and Ross Mathie who were overseers of the SFA youth system at the time. A few days later he was named in an Ireland under 17 squad for a match against Italy.

Asked to why he wasn't named for Scotland Mathie responded by saying the player had been approached by Ireland several months previously and it would go against the grain to approach a youngster who had already given the green light to the idea of representing another nation.

McCarthy was also interviewed back in 2007 where he stated that he just wanted to play international football and chose Ireland because they came in for him and Scotland didn't.

..Loans with No Repayment Terms Can Equal Gift?

    Summary

It is common for loans particularly between family and friends to contain no term as to

repayment. This may lead people to believe that the money only becomes payable when the

other party demands its return. That is incorrect. A loan of money which contains no agreed

repayment term becomes continuously recoverable at all times. Therefore any cause of

action arises the instant the money is advanced. This has implications when determining:

    if the collection of a debt is statute barred;

whether a company is insolvent; and

the calculation of pre-judgment statutory interest.

    Statute Barred

In VL Finance Pty Ltd v Legudi [2003] VSC 57 loans owed by directors were created by

book entries. No formal agreements existed. The only documentary evidence of the loans

were in the companys financial statements. The loans were created in 1992. The Plaintiff

sought to sue in respect of them in 2000. The Defendants claimed that the debts were statute

    barred.

Nettle J found that in the absence of any stipulation as to the date of payment a debt will

become recoverable the instant the money is advanced.

The Plaintiff argued that the directors did not have the money which would have been needed

to repay the loans and therefore the parties must have intended that the directors be given

time to pay if ever called upon to do so. Therefore, such a term should be implied into the

    loan agreement.

Nettle J held that to infer such a term into the loan agreement there must be express words

or necessary implication to establish contrary intention. It is not enough to imply a term

merely because it may be reasonable. The usual contract rule applies, that is, a term may not

be implied unless necessary to give business efficacy to the contract. Otherwise, in the

absence of any stipulation as to the date of payment, a debt becomes due and payable instantly upon the money being advanced.

You seem more obssed than the QC these days...do you even give a good f**k about Celticfootballclub?

  5. Rangers have taken a £1.5m loan from Dave King following the incoming chairman's claim it will take an investment of around £30m to get the club competing at the top of Scottish football.

The South Africa-based businessman was appointed to the Ibrox board on Tuesday immediately after passing the Scottish Football Association's 'fit and proper' person test.

King's temporary working capital is an alternative to a second £5m loan from Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley.

The money has been provided until the end of the year in order to give Rangers "time to deliver a longer-term funding solution" following several months of financial difficulties.

Paul Murray, who has acted as interim chairman since King's group overthrew the previous board in March, confirmed the move and said other similar developments are expected imminently.

He also revealed the club will likely be listed on the ISDX Stock Exchange soon after being removed from the AIM equivalent at the start of last month when its nominated advisor resigned and was never replaced.

Murray said: "There has been additional investment made. Another £1.5m was invested in to the club, just as working capital. Because of the share structure and the de-listing, there’s obviously technical issues.

"You can’t just issue shares tomorrow and so we have to provide that by means of short-term funding until we get to the process of raising capital through a share issue. That will probably coincide with a re-listing of the club on the ISDX exchange."

When King and his allies won control in March, he said he felt the same figure he quoted again on Thursday would be required to get the fallen Glasgow giants back to the level they were competing at before going into administration three years ago.

He has, however, conceded the approximate total could move either way depending on how quickly promotion to the SPFL Premiership is achieved.

Caretaker manager Stuart McCall's team won the first leg of their play-off semi-final against Hibernian on Wednesday but will have to negotiate their way through three more matches to go up.

King, who has promised funding will be provided for a Premiership-standard squad this summer no matter what league Rangers are in next season, believes remaining in the second tier could push overall costs up.

Conversely, he feels claiming a place in the top division this month might result in less investment from him and his supporters than initially thought.

    Competing

Either way, King has pledged to deliver half of the costs required prior to any possible new investment from elsewhere, with the rest of the board covering the rest.

He said: "The timescales will vary. What we have to do is get Rangers back to competing with Celtic for the Premiership and winning 55% of the time.

"We want to be more successful than they are and getting in to Europe. The level of investment required to get us there is not a known factor, we can't be sure of that.

"By way of example, if Rangers went to the Premiership and didn't come second in the first season and came third or fourth, you would have a second season without Europa League income.

"My view is that whether it is one season or whether it is two seasons, we are here to see it through to the end.

“If you were to ask me, I think that I made a comment before of about £30m. That will likely be the gap that shareholders will have to put in before we get there in addition to the normal revenue streams coming into the club before we become self-sustainable.

“If we were to miss a year in the Premiership then it could be up to 37 or 40. If things go really well and we can change the commercial relationships then that might go down to 25, but it's certainly tens of millions and it is not a finite amount of money.

“If Rangers don't do it in year two or three then we aren't going to stop. We will go for year four. We are determined to get there and get the club back to where it has to be."

    Sky Sports.

  6. My clubs history is not my history Boab and happened before I was born. However your old club dying from an embarrassing and humiliating death is now part of my history and I do laugh at your history Boab. :) Boab watched his beloved club die and is watching his new club funnily enough almost exactly the same as the old club follow follow the dead one into it's grave which is also dying an embarrassing and humiliating death, because it acted the same as the previous one.

So your history is the laughing stock of Scottish football. :)

    What happened?

  7. Aye sure you will, don't let anything like running up £16 million in debt for this season alone get in the way of signing the best players in Scotland on more money than they already get with their current club.

If yer club fails to get promotion, the falling ST sales and gate numbers will make up for the increase in the players budget. After all what's debt to a Rangers fan eh ?, just something to be ignored and forgotten as trivial nonsense that other clubs bother about.

Celtic pick up players like Armstrong and GMS for peanuts. Rangers will do likewise once back in the top league.
