  1. Back to the original question,  Dalbeattie Star got another damn good thrashing today by the look of it, both the wee Rovers and Bonnyrigg won, Elgin beaten, still hope of salvation for The Star in the  Lowland League yet. Bonnyrigg play Elgin last game of the season as well.  Please please please.

Out of interest when do applications for the WOSFL close?  Asking for a friend

Did the HL and LL teams get any payments, seeing as the colt teams robbed their places from them. Stretch, scratches backside.

The LL teams payments are discussed on another thread, no direct payment, but get things like entry fees, insurance, administration, refs etc payed for. If the HL let Colts teams in, Aberdeen, Inverness, Ross or Kingussie they might do things differently.

Pmsl, first of all regarding the vote for B teams, I was unsure but any team who voted for it I can imagine most teams below would not want them in, (this is my view only) and in respect, (my view only agains) Dalbeattie are a south team not a WOSFL and the same should have actually applied to Threave.

In bold, see the shit some people write or totally ignorant or just haven't a clue.  Don't you understand it was the junior FA who didn't want their teams to leave, kept making excuses and the clubs listened to them but eventually most seen the light and the junior FA could handle the pressure anymore.  Doesn't matter if your the oldest club in the Scotland professional set up or the newest, they should be treated the same.  Clubs in Lowland voting against relegation from the Lowland is just , I'm my mind sick as feck and total self preservation and the attitude of 'feck the pyramid, we want to stay where we are by any tools possible'     The biggest problem in the Scottish Pyramid system, stopping it from functioning properly is the SPFL 2 league and the Lowland League.

I'm not speaking for any club in the WOSFL or EOSFL, I'm objective and been to many games this season in the WOSFL, EOSFL and Lowland League. Whatever dealings are going on, Clubs looking at self preservation or people who are corrupt in position of power and looking after their selves.  Our Scottish Football pyramid system is something that is growing for all and if everything is equal then we be a country where many would envy but we all have to work together and stop doing shitting deals and votes which we all know is wrong for Scottish football

Yes, Dalbeattie are a South team and should be in the South League along with Threave, but the clubs voted Threave in. Rumour  a while ago was that several other teams in the South were thinking of joining the WOSFL, would this be allowed to happen now the gate has opened?

As for the Junior FA i do understand,  down here there are a few supporters of the "big Ayrshire clubs" who give it how come Dalbeattie  are in the Lowland, there rubbish, we're bigger and better than them blah blah, it becomes tiresome. My answer is they should have applied when the League opened, they would maybe be in the league with Kelty and Bonnyrigg by now.  Don't take it personally,

As for the Pyramid and self preservation,  i support Dalbeattie, tomorrow might be there last game in the lowland or not. There on field performances this season have merited relegation yet they might get saved. Utter nonsense. The Self preservation starts at the top, the premier league/championship play off, nonsense, bottom off league 2 play off, nonsense. The pyramid, great idea, but rushed in without everyone on board. It would be great to start again. The Blazers really need to get out the  offices and talk to the clubs and maybe even the supporters and try and understand. (views my own)

If it did come down that Dalbeattie wanted into the WOSFL, if relegated then I'm sure the WOSFL clubs would have to vote like they did Threave in but the difference is, Dalbeattie as far as I know voted for B teams and voted against straight relegation down to tier 6 from the Lowland league.  I don't think even one team in the WOSFL would welcome or vote Dalbeattie in

Really? the first colts vote Star voted against there inclusion, the second vote not sure how they voted, third vote abstained.

Would WOSFL teams really vote against Star's inclusion?  What is it with  the WOSFL teams? Decide they don't want an invite to the party then change there mind and turn up late. Then start trying to boss everybody else around. Are they sitting in big Ivory towers or just got a big chip on there shoulder

The LL clubs have sold their souls to the colt clubs. Have teams in the HL and SL been given handouts?

Whats that got to do with relegation from the Lowland League? The clubs all got 1 million euros each and any relegated team gets 2 million euros parachute payment .Yawn

    That's not confusing....

But if Albion Rovers or Bonnyrigg are relegated and Spartans don't go up then Edinburgh Uni go down too?

Yes, there has to be 16 "real" teams in the league.  Looks like this season one team getting promoted into the LL and the 16 will be constructed depending on what happens at the top of the league. So Edinburgh Uni could get relegated.

This saints side are rotten, them and Star have been abysmal this year. What happened to Richie maxwells star side? Bring back those days with Russell Currie running riot. They will be joining this league soon it looks like.

As for Saints, the manager must of thought the league were the same standard as Glasgow Saturday amateurs with the players he signed, how wrong could he be. Signing players from AS Airdrie and thinking they would work at this level? Seen better in the Dumfries Sunday league than that.

Both squads need a clear out, saints especially. They could bring back Jordan, wasn’t very well liked by some people but done a good job. Not sure how it will work for Star, probably lose most their squad too, can’t see some of them boys wanting to play south football especially Cox & Kilpatrick

The last i heard Russell Currie was sunning himself in Australia.  Richie Maxwell's Star side decided on mass that they needed a new challenge for reasons only known to themselves(££££)

Always thought it was a bit curious South teams bringing in players and Management from Ayrshire/Central belt. To an extent i understand the Star and Gretna in the Lowland doing it, one step below league 2. How many locals are in the QOS, Annan or Stranraer league teams?  There seems to be plenty of youth football in the area so do the clubs have no patient with youngsters and wanting intstant success or the experience or interest at bringing the youngsters from youth to senior level?  Or is it the" he's fae Glasgae he must be guid" mentality. Am sure some of these young boys must be wondering why they are not getting a chance.

Am sure local supporters don't really want to watch a team from the central belt masquerading as there own

Star looked horribly out of their depth on Saturday against the next worst team in the league. I don't think going through the same thing next season if they stay up on a technicality will do them any good at all. I know it's the rules, but even so...

Star have had a very testing season to put it mildly. In the last year there has been 4 different managers plus all of last seasons team leaving for a "new challenge"(££££). The dressing room has a revolving door. Fair to say that morale and spirits are at rock bottom. Time for a regroup and a bit of stability, whether that's in the LL or SOS. There are enough decent players in the area to be a decent LL team.  Don;t think there would be to much objection to relegation to the SOS league.

A a fan i have fair enjoyed watching Star in the LL but there come a time.

Great result for Edinburgh Uni, well done to them, think should have gone to that game today 😬

No you shouldn't have. Rank rotten game. Dalbeattie were terrible. Edinburgh Uni took advantage, dominated the game hit the woodwork 3 times also. Uni keeper never had a save to make.  On that performance Dalbeattie simply don't deserve to be in the Lowland League. League table certainly doesn't lie.

On a footnote, noticed a game of rugby on in the distance,  it was Boroughmuir v Newton Stewart, over a 100 points scored, should have went to that instead. Was quite impressed with the facility at Peffermill, nothing like that down here.

Thanks everyone, I'm am coming up from Bristol after work (31st march) and fly back on Sunday April 9th. Staying in central Glasgow again - usually get in 5 games + over the 8/9 days. Nice holiday for the Mrs - me out of the way 😘

Dalbeattie, midweek is a no go with public transport unless you stay over. Saturday, public transport is no problem, just makes it a long day. I actually know someone in Dalbeattie that had a helicopter, but sold it, couldn't get insured over 70 year old. Best of luck on your travels.

On my way around Easter, is there any way I can get from Glasgow to V of L for a night k.o, apart from hiring a car - or staying over ?  Not sure of last Innerleithen last buses yet (Similarly for Dalbeattie)  🚁

What Dalbeattie game you hoping to get to and where and from are you travelling to? Bristol?

Well done Edinburgh Uni on winning 3-1 at Cumbernauld, result of the week.

Yes well done to Uni, was hoping they wouldn't pick up anymore points, then Dalbeattie would turn them over at Peffermill. That's put the cat right among the pigeons.  Up to you now Star...........bloody students

Excuse my stupidity but what does the (Y) after Edinburgh Uni mean? I know they can't go any further up the league even if they win all there remaining games.

And thank you GNU-Linux for posting the results and tables every week

Biggest shame about the SOS forum is that we never seem to tallk about the clubs or any games.

It's always about the perceived standard and what tier the league should be in. A disappointing aspect is that the justification for he south being at tier 6 is; 'well it's not stopping any team that wants to get promoted, so no harm done leaving it at tier 6'.

It's a very condescending attitude to the SOS and if I was involved with any of the club's would drive me crazy. But you never seem to hear anything from the SOS. Why?

As I've said, way too many times now, will be at Alba Cup Final and believe me I plan to talk about it.

HorseyGhirl, credit to you for trying to get this thread going. But as usual hijacked or the main topic seems to be which tier the league should be in.

Which South game were you at yesterday HorseyGhirl? Wee match report , thoughts, opinions, gossip? Anybody else? Yesterdays possible topics of conversation, Threave Rovers fielding 2 teams in 2 different  leagues,  Newton Stewart, 100 mile round trip for match postponed an hour before kick off, Creetown back to top of the league, 3 horse race, who's going to win the league?  I was at a LL game yesterday, could be going to watch the SOS league next season, but am probably posting on the wrong forum.

  15. I put a post on this thread a few pages back. In my mind and seems to be the general consensus seems to be that the SOSFL is at least a tier too high and it should be up to the clubs if they want to drop a tier or amalgamate with the WOSFL.

If the league dropped to say tier 7, what would happen to Dalbeattie or Gretna if they got relegated? Would they have to or want to drop 2 tiers to play in the SOS? Would the 2 other tier 6 leagues be happy to accept them? As for Gretna, they are members of the East FA, the South FA refused them,  yet if they get relegated they seemingly have to go to the South league.

Threave decided to take a bit of a gamble, at least every season they have something to aim for, promotion to the next league. Every away game is a new adventure. If the players are happy to do it and the club seems to have plenty of finance to do it, good luck to them. Due to the 1.30 ko's i haven't been to game this season so can't comment on the standard.

Wellington, the South FA have let East Kilbride join and have Edusport/Caley Braves playing up at Strathclyde Park(dogging central), so they have set out their stall regards membership. Personally i think they should be refused entry to the league.  Would they last a season with all the travelling? or is it just  in the hope they win the league and get fast tracked to the Lowland League. If it was that easy surely all the alleged  "Big Junior" teams would have tried it

Due to work commitments and the 2pm kick offs during winter i rarely get to any South games now.  In the 40 plus years i've watched south football the facilities have vastly improved particularly in the last few seasons which is pleasing. Most clubs run by enthusiastic volunteers who give up a lot of time and commitment to ensure clubs keep going.  It annoys me that folk from outwith the area take pleasure in rubbishing the league and telling us where we should. Believe me you should try living down here.

  16. Back down to earth tomorrow  for Stirling Uni, Dalbeattie away, a wee bit different from Tannadice, hopefully a bit of a hangover and Dalbeattie can take advantage. They must have a Student union with a cheap bar? Interesting if any supporters come down, can't remember them ever bringing any supporters to Dalbeattie.

Seriously, they had a great performance last week and having a great season so far. I Would seceretly like to see them win the league, since Star ain't gonna win the league this season..Mon the Star
