  1. I remember it well. Brian Heron and Ross Mathie were both signed that morning. It was very exciting to sign two (reasonably well known) players from other teams (I think Ross Mathie came from Kilmarnock). Brian Heron scored with a spectacular (almost horizontal) header into the big end.
  2. Better not say or I'll get it in the neck again.
  3. I am definitely not going to say either way!
  4. Where did I say that no debate was allowed?
  5. There is a world of difference between discussing the positives and negatives of any football team and their players and management and the downright blind guesswork and unfonded speculation that people present on here as fact. Training once a week? Training moved? Club close to administration? Manager lost the dressing room? Wage arguments? All unfounded, all guesswork and most of it is complete and utter tosh.
  6. Here we go again. There is far too much unfounded and ludicrous speculation on here. Financial crisis, losing the dressing room, wage issues, players having to be punted, etc. All this does is put needless negative pressure on the club, the players amd the rest of us on P&B Lets stop the guesswork and the rumours for heaven's sake.
  7. Stevie can't seem to win here. Either he is being criticised for keeping Brown or he is being criticised for dropping him. He has recognised the problem, moved to resolve it and he will look to move on a player who is no longer in his plans. That's football it happens all time. Well done Stevie for sorting out a problem position.
  8. How does one player who is not good enough to play at this level being rightly dropped turn into losing the dressing room? Get a grip people.
  9. Away and stop scaring the weans. The only thing that is worrying is what rubbish you will come up with next.
  10. Sounds like a normal weekend for some people on here.
  11. First game 1970 (I think). Queen's PK away at Hampden. I remember running up an down the steps in the North Enclosure for most of the game. We won 2-0., Trialist goalkeeper saved a penalty and signed after the game - the legend that was Lawrie Williams.
  12. When the Sons played West Brom in 1988 it was to celebrate the centenary of the match between Renton (the Scottish Cup winners) and West Brom (the FA Cup winners). Renton won the 1888 match and were crowned, not only British Champions but World Champions as well. So, when Dumbarton beat West Brom 2-1 we retained the trophy and presumably, the title.
  13. Spot on Pete. Far too much hand wringing and worst case scenarios around.
  14. Barry Robson has left Aberdeen and says he wants to move into management. Do we take a punt on inexperience like we did with Murray or go for the known and the experienced?
  15. It's the end of an era - a first in Scottish football history where a team have been relegated out of the bottom division and with just a few bad seasons we can all be there.
  16. I was thinking this as well - good call Wilf.
  17. Great. Thanks Sonsteam. There is nothing on our site - the fixtures have been archived already and the link doesn't work and there is nothing on the East Stirlingshire site it's like the competition that didn't exist this year.
  18. How did we do in the Strlingshire Cup semi-final against East Stirlingshire ( I think it was in April)?
  19. Yet another embarassing away game defeat. 8 away goals scored all season, no away win this year - four months and counting. Thank goodness we are safe. Stevie really needs to rethink his away game strategy - we can't keep defending in depth away from home hoping for 0-0 or to sneak a 1-0 win and hoping that our home form will save us. There has to be some sort of balance in the season and surely it is better to lose 5-3 while goiung for it than to lose 4-0, 5-0, 6-0 with abject apologies of performances where we barely register a shot on target - one shot on target last night, which for us away from home, seems to be an improvement on the norm. I don't want to gripe when we have just stayed up but our away strategy is simply not good enough.
  20. I don't remember Alex being like that either Wilf. He was always very welcoming. I used to go to non-Dumbarton games with him and he was always very friendly when he was recognised. I have to say, he knew the game inside out.
  21. Watching the Dundee vs St Johnstone game - is it wrong to hope for an injury to Hemmings that will put him out until a week on Thursday?
  22. Absolutely ludicrous. The best way to get results is to try to take the game to better teams. Sit back and they pick you off unless you are very lucky.
  23. Absolutely, SD needs to spend far more time in here - he is probably more appreciated in Sons' Sorrow thread than any other on P&B.
