Is there an issue with the mediocrity of our league here? Take the other "smaller" home nations as an example, since they are probably the most similar to us in terms of culture etc. If you are a half decent prospect in Wales, ROI, or NOI you will (due to their very poor domestic leagues) in short order find yourself in the English League system at a young age where you will work with better coaches, play against better players and have to properly commit to make it. Up here you can make a good living by playing at 80% every week for Rangers or Celtic without really having to push yourself. For example what level would Scott Brown had reached if he had been forced to go to Spurs or somewhere when he was 17 instead of chilling in the old firm comfort zone for his entire career? Obviously there are outliers (Robertson, Tierney being the two that spring to mind) and maybe I'm talking nonsense but I think there could be something in it. This is obviously a wider point about development of players generally and doesn't explain our striker specific problem. We are long overdue a top class forward.
Brown chilled out at Easter Road for a while

I don’t see any way in which the approach was negative in the first game. Plenty of issues, but that wasn’t one.
The majority of the first half was " cagey "
Second half WE , obviously , had to be more adventurous !

1978 was better by a distance than this latest tournament from a Scotland point of view.
No , 1978 was worse !

Point is we havent produced anyone comparable even to Durie since, its been a downwards plummet since the 80s, thirty fucking years without a new forward of much note

Yes they were, all of them are quality.
John Wark was a quality ... midfielder
NOT a forward !

Durie was class, how many strikers nowadays do we have that would get a game for Spurs and Chelsea? Durie did.
He was in the national team for his pace and power. Not that well known for skilful play !

Definitely need to give Patterson more game time !

Think we just need to fine tune the system around one of the strikers and go with that. Our inspiration should be Northern Ireland turning David Healy into a ruthless goal machine when in a green shirt whilst he remained a bang average championship striker out of it.
Dykes still has a place as long as there are goals in the midfield but his finishing is a worry.
Adams probably has to play as whilst he's not a natural 1 in 2 scorer, he's a step above Dykes or anyone else so Dykes is only playing if we go with a two.
Would nae balk at Nisbet and Adams getting a go. As soon as we have Dykes in we seem to revert to just knocking it up to him and he's not a dominant enough target man at this level to play like that. I do like the look of Nisbet.
Frankly though post Euros we need to start from scratch in midfield, Gilmour is a stick on now but is McTominay playing in midfield or at the back? Does Jack come in and play beside Gilmour? What's McGinn's job in there?
3 at the back and the resurgence of Grant Hanley seem to have made us reasonably solid (by our standards) so Clarke needs to get the system working up top now.
Three at the back has not been convincing in our two losses this competition ( I agree with Willie Miller on Sportsound ! )
I am not convinced with McTominay in the back three but a.t.m. Ryan Jack needs to be a necessity in midfield , Gilmour obviously and maybe John McGinn ( so no room for McTominay in midfield ! )

The 80s we had top lads like tailend Jordan, Dalglish, Wark, Archibald, Gray, Sharp, Sturrock, McClair, Nevin, gradually giving way to guys like Durie, Gallacher, McCoist, Johnston
Since then, nothing. James McFadden.
We've since produced top class keepers centrebacks fullbacks midfielders but not a striker winger or attacking mid of note.
Why cant we produce top class forwards?
Some of those you mentioned were not top class ( forwards )

I saw Craig Brown on the telly earlier saying that we were the better side against Morocco, but were just unlucky, and a 3-0 defeat did not reflect how the game went.
Old age really does do shocking things to the memory.
Anybody remember off hand what Burley ( ? ) got sent off for ?

Norway was the worst of those. Morocco were better than anyone expected, especially up front, and Brazil are Brazil. Norway was yet another fucking game where we were the better side and were toothless up front. Literally, in Craig Burley's case.
Obviously I didn't see it, as I was watching us get crushed by the Moroccans, but I still wonder about how that Norway team managed to beat Brazil. Again.
I remember us playing some nice football v. Norway but imho never really going for it

The biggest failing in this tournament was, for me, the powder puff prongs of our attack. How many times did we force a good save from the opposition keeper? I can only think of O'Donnell Vs England. I'm sure there were others, but considering we had some 40 or more chances, that's terrible. McGinn, McTominay, Adams, Dykes all sending headers tamely over or shooting weakly into the keeper's arms or wide.
Despite the inexperience and failings elsewhere in the team, if we could upgrade to convert even a tenth of those chances, we'd still be in the tourney.
MacGregor had a chance in the second half similar to his goal in the first half but put it over the bar !

What did you expect. 2nd lowest ranking team in through the back door and drawn against the 4th ranked team away and the beaten finalists in the last WC ???
I thought we might be able to win our first game , and do a wee bit better tonight

Despite the hype, despite the apparent depth of players we have, despite our apparent wealth of riches in midfield, we once again meekly departed a tournament having looked like a bunch a naive, pathetic amateurs who didn't deserve to be there.
I've been watching Scotland since 1974, and I can't think of a worse tournament. Looking back, it would seem that only 1954 was a worse tournament result (and performance) wise.
Any other bids ? 1986 maybe ?
1978 obviously

Not that good
1 ) As someone else said it is 50 / 50 now between S O'D and Nathan
( although the latter will have to get first team football )
2 ) Still not convinced by McTominay in the back three
3 ) We are still unable to mark , or even close , opposition players down
Ryan Jack absent ?
4 ) We need Billy Gilmour fit and playing first team football
5 ) We need more international class forwards

Me and you might need to build a relationship over this common interest. Hit me up with your A/S/L please.
I think it’s easy for people to look at criminals, like Paul Ferris for example, and just assume their comments about police corruption, miscarriages of justice are all just lies or bitterness to cover up their own poor choices in life but the police and similar agencies definitely don’t do things by the book all the time.
And the you know whats were mentioned w.r.t. the death of the p.I. in the UK news recently

If you actually get convicted of first degree murder then yes but Canada loves bargaining down sentences to avoid long trials. Also depends on your and the victim's skin colour, the Colten Boushie case shows you can shoot a sleeing Cree man in the the back of the head and serve no jail time.
And it's peameal bacon, thank you/merci
I thought it was standard practice in Scotland for murder to be " reduced " to culpable homicide
