  1. Why not if he's fit and still good enough - even if it's only as back-up or on the bench? He's younger than Luca Toni who has just finished joint top scorer in Serie A. There have been lots of players who have played at high level in their late 30s or even early 40s.
  2. Wilkinson's hard tackling style should attract offers from the Championship at the very least. Tony Pulis, who gave him a new deal at Stoke, may be interested in taking him to West Brom. Andre Wisdom has returned to Liverpool after his loan so Pulis will want to add a right back to his squad. Hope Wilkinson gets fixed up soon. He has been very complimentary about the Jags interviews and loved his time at Firhill. Also pleased that Graham Dorrans is back in the EPL next season with Norwich City. He did very well for us too.
  3. TTL will be preparing the site for the launch of the new strips. IIRC it happened last year too around this time. Any remaining strips from this season should be available at rock bottom prices.
  4. FIFA did not have time to erase all the computer files before the police raid. The Attorney General's Office's statement said that they had enough evidence to begin criminal proceedings. The Swiss Banks will have to co-operate too. This is just the beginning of the end for Blatter and his allies.
  5. In January, it would probably have to a loan player coming in. There will not be many, if any, suitable free agents available. The manager will have until late August to assess Scully. If Gallacher decides to move on, he will need to bring in a quality replacement quickly.
  6. "Blatter & Co" will not be in control for much longer. It's possible that FIFA could be wound up and replaced by a new governing body. It just requires member associations to resign from FIFA and join the new organisation. Another possibility is that there could be a split, i.e. a breakaway from FIFA.
  7. Thanks. I had not realised that Jack Warner's son had pleaded guilty. "On July 15, 2013, the defendant Daryll Warner, son of defendant Jack Warner and a former FIFA development officer, waived indictment and pleaded guilty to a two-count information charging him with wire fraud and the structuring of financial transactions. "On Oct. 25, 2013, the defendant Daryan Warner waived indictment and pleaded guilty to a three-count information charging him with wire fraud conspiracy, money laundering conspiracy and the structuring of financial transactions. Daryan Warner forfeited over $1.1 million around the time of his plea and has agreed to pay a second forfeiture money judgment at the time of sentencing." Wow!
  8. Very true but it's now a criminal matter for the Attorney General of Switzerland.
  9. That what the Swiss investigation, announced today, is about. "The Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland (OAG) has opened criminal proceedings against persons unknown on suspicion of criminal mismanagement and of money laundering in connection with the allocation of the 2018 and 2022 Football World Cups. In the course of said proceedings, electronic data and documents were seized today at FIFA’s head office in Zurich."
  10. The Americans will not allow the big boys to wriggle out. It would be a massive international humiliation. The Swiss investigation could catch even bigger fry. The big issue is whether Russia and Qatar will lose their World Cups. Putin would also regard it as a massive humiliation. This is a big fight and it's going to get very bloody.
  11. This could be another example of the French just ignoring EU law when it suits them. Edited to put the thread back on track. How quickly could a new bidding process be held if the Russians and Qataris lose their World Cups following the Swiss corruption investigation?
  12. Are you sure about that? There is an EU-US extradition agreement but Member States can have additional bilateral agreements. Article 4 below appears to contradict you. "1. An offence shall be an extraditable offence if it is punishable under the laws of the requesting and requested States by deprivation of liberty for a maximum period of more than one year or by a more severe penalty. An offence shall also be an extraditable offence if it consists of an attempt or conspiracy to commit, or participation in the commission of, an extraditable offence. Where the request is for enforcement of the sentence of a person convicted of an extraditable offence, the deprivation of liberty remaining to be served must be at least four months." IIRC Britain has a more powerful bilateral extradition treaty with the US which is biased in the Americans' favour.
  13. Here's the indictment list from the Grauniad live report. Jeffrey Webb: Current Fifa vice-president and executive committee member, Concacaf president, Caribbean Football Union (CFU) executive committee member and Cayman Islands Football Association (CIFA) president. Eduardo Li: Current Fifa executive committee member-elect, Concacaf executive committee member and Costa Rican soccer federation (FEDEFUT) president. Julio Rocha: Current Fifa development officer. Former Central American Football Union (UNCAF) president and Nicaraguan soccer federation (FENIFUT) president. Costas Takkas: Current attaché to the Concacaf president. Former CIFA general secretary. Jack Warner: Former Fifa vice-president and executive committee member, Concacaf president, CFU president and Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (TTFF) special adviser. Eugenio Figueredo: Current Fifa vice-president and executive committee member. Former Conmebol president and Uruguayan soccer federation (AUF) president. Rafael Esquivel: Current Conmebol executive committee member and Venezuelan soccer federation (FVF) president. José Maria Marin: Current member of the Fifa organising committee for the Olympic football tournaments. Former CBF president. Nicolás Leoz: Former Fifa executive committee member and Conmebol president.
  14. Thanks. The BBC is often sloppy in its reporting. The Americans will try to get Warner arrested and extradited too.
  15. The Swiss investigation into the World Cup awards to Russia and Qatar will hopefully bring down the rest of the corrupt fraudsters. "The Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland (OAG) has opened criminal proceedings against persons unknown on suspicion of criminal mismanagement and of money laundering in connection with the allocation of the 2018 and 2022 Football World Cups. In the course of said proceedings, electronic data and documents were seized today at FIFA’s head office in Zurich. "Today, on Wednesday 27 May 2015, the OAG has seized data and documents stored in IT systems at the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) as part of a so-called “collection of evidence on cooperative basis”. That means that the party in possession of the data – in this case, FIFA – delivers the requested data to law enforcement authorities, or gives assistance in securing the data, thus facilitating an efficient and swift procedure. The collection of relevant bank documents had already been ordered beforehand at various financial institutes in Switzerland. The files seized today and the collected bank documents will serve criminal proceedings both in Switzerland and abroad."
  16. BBC report - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-32895048 "Those arrested include: Jeffrey Webb - head of the confederation for North and Central America and the Caribbean, Concacaf Jack Warner, former Fifa vice-president"
  17. Surely we can get a better keeper than Kyle Letheren? If not, stick with Gallacher as first choice, Scully as back-up/competition and Waters as U20/3rd keeper. ETA - What about the Jamie McDonald rumour? Has he knocked us back or can't we afford him?
  18. Have you bothered to read any of the articles or coverage in the online media? The US investigation relates to tournaments in North, Central and South America. A former FIFA Vice-President (Jack Warner) and a current Vice-President are among those arrested. Eduardo Li who was due to join the FIFA Exec Committee on Friday has also been detained. Jeffrey Webb, Head of Concacaf was arrested too. Chuck Blazer, former FIFA Exec member and Head of Concacaf, is the insider who co-operated with the US authorities. He carried a wire tap in meetings and has already pleaded guilty. Hardly minor officials from Africa or Asia!
  19. There must be a reasonable chance that O'Donnell will stay after all. He was not one of the three players that the manager expects to leave over the next few days. Perhaps Archie has made O'Donnell a very good offer to stay. He would be my top priority.
  20. ^ You obviously think that the club will risk offering Welsh a new deal. IMHO he would have to prove his fitness in pre-season training and friendlies first. The manager's press comments indicate that his budget will not increase much if at all. With a small senior squad, he can't risk losing a player for the whole season again. If Hendry is a genuine prospect, it would be reasonable to offer him a deal and send him out on loan. IIRC he can play for the U20s whilst on loan. Airdrie are obviously keen to take our defenders on loan. Ayr, with McCall and John Henry in charge, is another obvious option.
  21. Will Chick Dung continue his pretence to be a Buddies supporter? The broadcasters can't do enough for the Sevconian and Sellick hordes. IIRC BT Sport had live Sevco games on 3 Friday nights in a row during the fannies' boycott. Auntie and BT seem to be working closely together. There are live BT commentaries repeated on MOTD. Balding has chat shows on both channels. Then there thick pundits (especially Savage) who work for them too. Then there is Al Jazeera Sport with Linacre et al. If only we could have intelligent and articulate presenters!
  22. Fox, O'Donnell, BRE, Craigen, Higginbotham and Lawless are all free agents after Saturday and don't need to be "released". Craigen's and BRE's inclusion on the list just confirms that they have not been offered deals. They won't be in the squad on Saturday and can leave a few days early.
