  1. First negative reaction for me this season ... Horrendous move, one that not only makes it look as though the board signed him just to make season ticket money off us (which is a horrible way to look at the fans), but it now looks as though Daveys time with us is done ... Not happy at all.

Dont get me wrong, Cuthbert has been good and should be #1 at the minute, but McGurn should be at least benched, I'm now thinking Rays "thanks fans" speech earlier was simply to try cool the reactions this news will get ...

  2. Just watched the highlights again. I think Toshney is becoming a fantastic signing for us. The lad is utterly fearless so far. Threw himself in front of the ball with one of the shots. Ligament injury? Just run it off during the week. He's a Tayside Terminator.

Was coming in here to say exactly this ... Missed the mid-week game but just caught the highlights ... I think I'm falling in love with that Toshney/Bene CB pairing ... They both look fantastic, its unreal how different they are compared to Watson/Perry last season ...

Of course it is early days, but if they can keep up these sort of performance's then we have captured a brilliant CB pair !

  3. Surely has to be Davo, or worse, Black LOL ...

Serious though, I really enjoyed Davo's time at us, probably 1 of the few who really liked him, and I would be happy if its him IF we didn't already have 45874389573 midfielders and a solid backline once everyone is fit (Toshney & Bene probably looked one of the best pairings I had seen here in a long time, then Barrs to come back with a 2 year deal and Bates is there to, we definitely don't need another CB) ...

It reeks of a "Ross Perry" last second deal like last season and I'm never a fan of these late dealings ! However I suppose whoever it is I'll still get behind, feel its important we really do try get behind everyone this season :)

  4. Barry Mackay has been terrific you eejits wouldn't know a player if he kicked you in the nuts...

I think the fact Murray never knew what formation he was playing half the time probably contributed to a lot of guys looking lost, McKay being one ... Its obvious Rangers are happy to play all out attacking football which as a lot of people said last season, it suits McKay ... He seems the player who bombs forward and doesn't want to have to worry about what's going on behind him as he expects others to cover ...

He's done more in the first half of this game than he done at a whole loan season at Starks tbh, anyone who thinks McKay was a cracking player whilst he was at us is crazy if you ask me :P He looked ok, but that was about it !

  5. I didn't make the weekends game as I've been away and not long got back ... Where we really that bad !?

EF fans look to be blowing a win over the top, enjoy it as in general we are useless at friendlies so no biggie ... But did we gift them it or was it just a borefest !?

I understand we had a bit of a weaker team out to so I suppose that counts for what it is ... Seems everyone is in agreement another attacking option is needed, the question is who would we go for ? Anybody half decent actually clubless at this minute ? ...

  6. Watching the game again it looks pretty clear McGurn probably should have stopped both they goals ... Not that I hold it against him, he is a god, but I just hope McKinnon doesn't use that as a reason to go with Cuthbert as our #1 !

Watson was decent enough, I liked him (minus his attitude at times) but as others say, our 3 CB's at the minute look head and shoulders above what he was so I'm glad hes gone ... Not sure hes the type of player who should be heading to a play off / promotion challenging team though ...

Wouldn't know who to pick as captain ... We literally have a whole new squad & the only "experienced" guys left (that have been here a while) are Thomson, Ando & McGurn ... Tough choice !

  7. http://www.raithrovers.net/raithtv?vid=378

    Decent interview with Rory Mckeown.

Pretty good interview, few points ...

Comes across as a decent guy, seems he's under no illusions at points last season he was poor, was it something like "perhaps I shouldn't have been playing every game" he said ... Seems to have put that behind him and appears more confident !

And hes only 21 ? Shocked, i thought he was in his mid to late 20s !

Also refreshing to hear him say he has to play better this season and "no disrespect to Murray", but Ray's much more ball on the ground and pass through teams kind of guy ...

More good vibes coming from the club IMO :) !

  8. Good bit of negativity kicking around at the minute and technically for the "real season" a ball has yet to be kicked, crazy ...

I never judge on friendlies, its pointless if you ask me ... There all about trying new players, tactics, formations and gaining match fitness, sure its nice to win 1 every now and again but i'm unsure why a few lads are queuing up armageddon already :P

We won't face any teams this season the caliber of Hearts/Aberdeen and probably not even Dundee (assuming we lose again), so to go all out panic mode after holding these lot to 0-0 HT's and losing late(ish) goals (fitness/subs will play a huge part of this - Lets not forget these pair are much further into pre-season than us) is mad ! As is getting worked up about where our goals will come from when last seasons "top goalscorer" is currently injured and yet to kick a ball ....

Plenty of time to let things unfold and see what each player can do ... I doubt McKinnon will even have a solid starting 11 yet ... Chill folks, only panic if Livi smash us 5-1 again :P !

  9. We played some decent stuff last pre-season and I remember Martin Scott against ICT and thought he looked the business, in the end he was pish as were the majority of the team. Let's not get ahead of ourselves just yet. Not saying anybody is but you know, just in case.

    This is very true.

I remember, that, during the ICT game, my mate said to me that Martin Scott would be a massive player for us last season.

    He was wrong.

I actually said the exact same thing to one of my mates haha ! Told him I reckon Scott would be that "fight and dig" we have lacked for seasons and would be up there fighting for POTY as the season ended ... That lasted until about the 3rd week of the season then he was dung !

  10. Lets assume the McGurn holiday situation is true indeed, I would be willing to bet with McGurn being a Lecturer he will have booked his holidays well BEFORE McKinnon came into play for probably the only 1 or 2 weeks he can get due to the times Colleges/Uni ends & pre-season starts ... IMO you can't tell a man to cancel your holiday, allow him to lose out on cash and then punish him if he does't ...

Of course that is me assuming McGurn like a normal person books a holiday months to a yearish in advance ... Very harsh to to crack the whip out if that's the case, especially after all he has done for us !

  11. Anderson being told to go and McGurn might not start ? Is it to early for MCKINNON OUT !!!! Hahahaha :P !!

All seriousness though, I'm very impressed with all our dealings so far this campaign, its absolutely brilliant to see a Manager know who he wants and go get them this early on ... Never one for going to pre season games but I think I may tag along to a few this time ! Very excited to see what we can do this season, fighting for 4th would be perfect :)

  12. It's really not. He would have been just about cheaper paying for the operation. If you are labouring under the delusion that a standard BUPA £50 per month thing would cover footballers against football injury think again.

Not once have I said that was my outlook on it ... However if your a footballer and you know you aren't covered for certain health/injury circumstances then it would make sense to ensure you are covered surely ?

Obviously this may be expensive and to be honest I would probably assume a lot of players won't pay privately, however if you have a bad history with injuries (this is the 2nd time hes injured this same knee I believe) then I think you owe it to yourself to be a tad more cautious and get yourself in a situation you know you will be fine if it happens again ... Simply my opinion that's all !

  13. Perhaps this sounds a tad harsh (unintentionally) but I really don't think anybody should feel sorry for Elliot. Don't get me wrong, I wish him a speedy recovery and all the best in his future playing career wherever that may be, but lets face facts: If he himself stated (in the STV Interview) that he didn't have medical cover with his contract, therefor (like 99% of people would do) he could have easily used his own head and took private cover, its that simple really !

Besides, it's not like he couldn't afford it, he sat injured for almost 2 seasons picking up a pay every week ... Lets also not forget the fact the PFA aren't interested in this, to me that says it all really ...

Fixture wise It's been pretty kind ... 9 points definitely a possibility in the opening 3 games to help build a bit of consistency going into the Hibs/Rangers matches ... Excellent start if we can even grab 10 points in the opening 5 ... Very excited for this season :)

  14. Jesus Christ, the negativity in here is frightening.

I am genuinely pleased at all of our signing so far. McKinnon is signing young boys with promise. They will have a desire to prove themselves and their is the chance they will get better. I for one am glad we are not signing the 'safe' options i.e. championship journeymen that will secure 7th spot with no chance of improvement.

Seriously, when do the Rovers sign players that on paper get the penis twitching?

    I also like the top!

P.S I am not a 'happy clapper' - i wanted Murray out at the end of 2013/14 season. But C'mon folks, where is the optimism. Young hungry team... that sounds better than fox etc!

    This 100%.

Not 1 player we have signed thus far has come with "LOOOOOOOOL WTF you signing that useless c**t for ?" from the previous players fans, in fact its been the exact opposite ... Most Brechin/Dundee/Dumbarton/Cowdung/Alloa fans have all had decent/good words to say about the players we have signed !

Besides, fans moan when we sign "diddys" like Nade or Conroy despite them being "bigger names", so surely we can't be moaning we are signing younger lads who will be hungry to prove then can cut it FT ... Happy with everything so far, very excited for the new season :)

  15. Don;t see how anyone can judge any of the signings thus far until they've played tbh ! Baird is another example, Thistle, Dundee and I even think QOS fans thought he was garbage, yet when he walked into San Starko twice he was head and shoulders one of our better constant performers !

I'll judge once I've seen them 6 or 7 games in, gives time for each player to settle, the team to gel and of course get used to McKinnons style of play :)
