  1. The offer was grandstanding. They had no intention of signing Holt, and knew that he would have no intention of ever joining them.

Aye we'll never know what Norwich would have sold at, but considering it was for an under-contract captain heading for double figures halfway through a Premiership season with a typical lower division side, I'd have thought towards the £4-5m mark.

It's quite good - he's become the 'loving cup' for me - every time I see him, I think of Rangers!

  2. Yet today they signed Scott Allan on loan. I`m assuming West Brom are paying all of his wages. Weird move as if Allan plays for Pompey and then they liquidate, he`ll not be able to play for West Brom under the 3 team rule. He did tweet that he`ll love to play in the red, white & blue. I`m sure he`d rather it was another club currently in administration!

    Don't think loans count.

  3. & see that thing about Young & Traynor saying there's more to come out next week & every time is an announcement made 'oh aye we've known that for months' that's proper embarrasing, they're supposed to be journalists, out looking for stories & reporting on them!

I think that's a bit naive. Last week at the QOS v Aberdeen game open all mics, Richard Gordon was speaking about this with Chic and others, in short these guys all sometimes see evidence (RG specified this) but it's only shown to them, and is not in their possession. Without concrete proof of its existence, they are in a very difficult legal position and will not run such stories.

  4. If I remember correctly one season Tarff were left to play a ridiculous amount of games in a very short space of time, to win the league, which they incredibly did.

It wassomething like 2-3 games a week for 4 weeks and they won them all .

    2001-02:

    30/3: Tarff 1 Abbey Vale 0

    3/4: Tarff 3 Newton 4

    6/4: Dalbeattie 0 Tarff 7

    15/4/: (cup) Creetown 2 Tarff 2

  5. The pitch that Glencraig played on is Ore Park, Benarty had one season in the juniors then amalgamted with

Lochore Miners Welfare, the 2 clubs agreed to change the name back 2 Lochore Welfare,

Benarty played at Dallas Doyle Park on Navitie Park, home I believe of the current Benarty Amateurs.

  6. The Junior football itinery takes in many of Scotland's high spots. I could offend half the country here but I'll try not to! Suffice to say, I've found even the worst places have something to offer, usually a warm pub!

I saw it mentioned earlier in the thread, but Forth was a strange place. We were directed by their committee to the British Legion for a pint, only to find it was closed down/very shut! The alternative was limited but I ended up in a masonic lodge I think, watching Gretna v Dundee on the telly. The ground itself was pretty rustic - the boundary fence had long disappeared on at least 2 sides.

I was going to apply for a job in Girvan around the time of our visit there in May but changed my mind upon actually getting there and walking around.

That apart I could list a further dozen or so crap towns but living in Paisley I guess that's tantamount to breaking the "people in glass houses..." proverb.

  7. I'm 99% sure that he's english.

Ex-Dundee Utd (not sure where he is now) player Danier Ogunmade went to school in Coatbridge. Not sure where he was born though.

Danny Ogunmade was born in Glasgow and to confirm the Lanarkshire connection, briefly played Junior with Bellshill in 2004-05.

Vic Kasule was born in Glasgow on 28/5/65, joining Albion Rovers during the 82-83 season from Motherwell Miners Ams.

  8. Kevin Harper was born in England but raised in Edinburgh.

Black Scottish-born footballers include Chris Mackie (ex Alloa), Malcolm Kpedekpo (ex Aberdeen), Chris Ogboke (ex Montrose). Callum McRobbie of Aberdeen's U19s could be mixed race?

Cowdenbeath's Joe Mbu has played for Junior Scotland but he was born in London as far as I know. Gordon Lennon of Dumbarton was born in Northern Ireland but I've no idea how long he's been over here - he joined Albion Rovers from Govan juvenile side Harmony Row.

There are a few other black players in the non-leagues such as Dan Gerrard and Max Asante but I don't know if they were born in Scotland either. I think Arniston's Ubong Umatong came up from England and I've no idea where Albion Rovers signed Abou Mansare from - he's now at St Anthony's. East Craigie have a black forward called Josh Perera.
