  1. Have to praise the ticketing system yesterday, must admit I feared the worst and thought it was inevitable that it just wouldn't work (mainly because of no phone signal) but it worked perfectly for me and I didn't hear of any complaints on the bus heading back.

Most of the “Northern Ireland” fans last night were probably homegrown **** from Scotland

Do you know what, I didn't even give it a thought until I got there....sitting close to the away section, looking across at a "Larkhall Loyal" flag being hung by a Union Jack cladded bit of gammon. I instantly gave myself a kick and thought "here we go" and they didn't disappoint. Only in Scotland can we be so divided, only in Scotland will you find people born here supporting nations against us....madness.

As the night went on it became clear that there weren't a lot of Irish accents near the divide,  about half of the support probably weren't born in the 6 counties and when it became about sticking Independence and Referendums up our backsides before doing the bouncy and singing about Rule Britannia, my heart sank even further. I just don't get it, I really don't get this side of our game up here. I've tried over the years but can't and I suppose that's the reaction that these people want.....I'm just glad that I'm not associated with it in any way. I feel sorry for the genuine N.Irish fan that has to have their own experiences over taken by these knuckle draggers.

I feel that the SFA missed a trick in not reducing prices for this game to get a full house.

My area manager mentioned to me this morning that he went to get tickets last night and was charge £40 for him and (I think he said £15 each for 3 kids) so decided to just watch it on the TV. i suspect he was not alone in  this.

  5. By the time I got home last night, I couldn't really be bothered posting, I jut felt so flat and let down. For as much as calm heads are required, alarm bells should also be ringing, as has been said by others in this thread, since Oslo, we seem like we are taking backwards steps.

Our big players didn't show on the night, I've read a lot about who got pass marks, I think those that did were simply ok but in general everyone was way below the standard that they have set. We're looking at players like McGinn, McTominy, Christie and Gilmour to get on the ball and drag the game by the scruff of the neck and none of them did.

For me, last night offered more questions than answers. Although I've praised him on a number of occasions, Dykes was well off it and looks a shadow of the player we were desperate to come play for us. Has he peaked?? He's become a bit part player at the lower end of the English Championship and has become less effective for Scotland. Jason Brown had this level of performance for us and was written off as a jobber by many supporters, I can't help but think Dykes is really no better on current form.

In over 30 years of going to Hampden, I've seen some woeful individual performances by players, however, if the player started then the Manager would put them out of their misery and take them off. Patterson's performance last night must go down as the worst 90 minute performance I have seen from a player in all that time. Why Clarke kept him on is beyond me. He's not the first and won't be the last player to make an error and be punished for it, I can forgive that, but his whole game was just error after error after error. The argument of some on our bus was that Ralston was no better, and if you move Tierney over there like Strachan did, then Taylor is no better than Ralston, well I'm sorry, I don't buy that. Clarke calls up a squad of players that he feels he can use in every circumstance....well last night was one of those circumstances and the squad available should have coped with it.

I know we have had great success with a back 3, although not a huge fan myself, I can see why Clarke sees it as our best opinion and you can't argue with him, however when Robertson went off, it was good to see that he wasn't too stubborn to change the shape. The problem with changing the shape is, we didn't really have the pace out wide to cause the N.Irish problems. Clarke mentioned in his interview that seeing us in another shape was one of the positives he would take from the game, but we were extremely 1 paced all night and the ball was continually killed by the more advanced players with the slow tempi build ups. I don't know who is available to fill that void, your Facebook warriors will scream "Gauld" or "Fraser", I don't know if that's the answer but the lack of pace in the final third worries me. Armstrong come on and had a bit of luck getting past his man, but again, against higher ranked opposition, I don't think he would have been "as effective".

So where do we go from here?? Well there were positives, I thought Ferguson come on and did well and brought himself more under consideration, although not really tested by the strike force, Cooper looked good at the back, Shankland looked lively and at least got into positions to have a chance and I thought Tierney did what he does when he was moved out wide, although very often didn't have the options needed when he ventured over the half way line.

It's no time to push the panic button. Our bigger players will have better games, but the concern going into the next group of friendlies is that we still don't have a settled back 3, we still don't know who our main Striker is....and if Hickey and Robertson don't make it then we don't have suitable replacements if we want to continue in the same set up that got us there.  Clarke shouldn't rip up what he has built so far, and has given us our pride back, but I am starting to question if this is a bridge too far for certain members of the squad.

  6. Heading along, like I always do, but can't say I'm overly excited about it.

Will be interesting to see what Clarke does with the starting 11. I suspect he'll only make 1 or 2 changes. Can't help but feel he'll start Gordon for this one, to have a look at where he is at, and I also have a hunch that Ferguson or Armstrong will come in for Christie. I might be totally wrong but I doubt there will be massive changes, can't think of any double header under Clarke where he has done that.

I'm going 3-0 Scotland tonight, Shankland to score at any time. I don't see anything that we should be worried about, and there more recognisable players seem to be injured Are they really better than Georgia or Cyprus...I don't think they are.

At this point, I'd be surprised if we avoid ninth place. Agree that Kelty will ultimately have enough. Annan have found title-winning form all of a sudden, so they'll be safe. That leaves us and QOS - and as Saturday shows, they'll pull out one or two results from nowhere by virtue of being a full time team. Think we'll have to take our chances in the playoffs.

I'm surprised that some of our supporters think this. Listen, the risk is there, of course it is, however I don't think there's enough evidence to suggest we are going to crumble and that Annan are going to go on some kind of title winning form over the next few games. We'll drop points between now and the end of the season, but so will Annan and I honestly think we'll be ok but we can't be complacent.

Darren Young should already be planning for next season, and I'd be surprised if he was wasn't doing that with a budget for this league.

  8. It was definitely Clark that played the pass, and I also thought Clark was very good, once again. He’s grown over the course of the season and will probably be someone that’ll be kicking himself when the season ends.

As for Leitch, sorry, I thought he was ok yesterday, but no better than that. He got better as the game wore on, but was one of the biggest culprits at giving the ball away in the First Half and he’s obviously the link man between Midfield and Attack and quite often, gave Carrick little support.

The worry for us is so many games against the rest. Lose any of those and its doubly bad.

Although I get this fear, I look at it as a positive. We know what we need to do, win those games and we’re alright. Would honestly take this over playing teams that are pushing for a top 2-4 spot. After the Cove and Alloa game, it really is in our hands.

  10. Delighted with the news (assuming we stay up). Always like an Arbroath away day and until Food2Go Catering arrived at Forthbank, you always got the best pies at Arbroath (Steak & Black Pudding 😍).

Well done on your stellar attempt at representing us Part Time clubs in the Championship, what a valiant fight you put up, so I hope all the genuine fans hold your head high as you come back down.

  11. What a goal to win the game!!! The relief it brought and I’m delighted for Young Offord.

I thought we were once again, very poor on the ball, but thankfully for us, Montrose were also poor and pretty unadventurous, but when you give nothing away defensively and you work hard as a solid unit, then you always stand a chance and that’s exactly what happened.

I just can’t understand why we constantly hit the ball away and give it straight back to the opposition team. 2 bits of quality, a phase of in the first half and the phase of play for the goal aside, it was so predictable and and so wasteful. I really feel for Carrick at times because he just has nothing to work with and very little in the way of support.

Though Young was slow to change it, what Leitch and Hilson were doing to justifying staying on, I do not know, and Carrick seemed to be playing much of the Second Half with an injury. When the changes were made, I was delighted though. Thought Spence and Offord gave us the energy and spark that had been missing upfront and McPeak had options.

He was given sponsors MOTM, and I said it a few weeks ago, but I really hope we can keep McPake for next season, he really is a fantastic player at this level and he offers us so much.

As I said, on the ball, I thought we were poor for long periods of the game but left Forthbank a happy man and delighted for the players involved.

  12. Really looking forward to this game, have said on here before that I have a wee soft spot for Stewart Petrie and I admire the job that he has done at Montrose over the years.

However, I also really want to win it to stave off the threat of 9th place, especially with Kelty Hearts picking up 3 (unexpected??) points against Alloa during the week.

We've been really Jeckyll & Hyde this season, none more so than putting up an admirable fight against Falkirk 2 weeks ago, only to crumble at Hamilton last week. I hope we see our good side again on Saturday, we keep the ball down and we play some nice football whilst showing the fight, grit and determination that we all know we have.

  13. As a 5-10 game "watcher at Camelon, I'm delighted at the appointment. Loved the football Moore had us playing, some coup for the club and a great character that you'll love having about. He's strict but fair and has a list of contacts throughout the game, I can totally understand why the board have made the change.

  14. Going to have to back my lads here and say I think we’ll be fine. We’ve quite possibly got the most favourable of the remaining fixtures and I also don’t believe we have the worst team of those mentioned and I’m going to predict that 2 of those mentioned finish below us.

It sounds like we let our standard drop this Saturday, but in general we have a squad that are playing for each other and are putting their bodies on the line to grind out results, I’m not sure the others can say they are doing that as much as we are. We’ve also got the best defensive record, so in general, we don’t give much away but sadly, we don’t score much either….which has been a concern for most of the season, but we do have a whole host of players that are more than capable of popping up to bag the 1 or 2 that we need.

It’s gonna be interesting, but I predicted Annan 9th at the start of the season and Kelty 8th and I’m going to stick with that, as I trust Darren Young and these group of players to see the job out.

This is only my opinion and feel free to disagree with it.  Yes we do only play one way. In fact it's the same basic premise we relied on when we won league 2.  Quick first touch passes forward. People can still run with the ball, or take a man on if that option isn't really on, but the quick first touch pass forward is the basis of our game.  It's a pro's approach to football and effective if you can be consistently accurate with it.

Our lad's aren't pros though and 4 hours training a week doesn't allow much time for perfecting a pro's game.  When the lads are reasonably consistent with it, we do OK, even a league higher up. When they aren't it's something of a horror show, particularly against full timers who can exploit the stray passing in ways that no one in league 2 had in them. The ball is given away cheaply by numerous players, comes back at us with accurate passing and they get behind or on us fast, rather than the other way round.

This isn't a criticism of Darren Young. If we want to do better than hang around the bottom of League 1, it's something we have to work on.  The problem for me, is that we don't seem to have the players who can play that style of football with enough accuracy or consistency for this level.  Perhaps we are too rigid with it and need to hold the ball up more to cut down the cheap giveaways of the ball?  So I'm sympathetic to your point about adapting.

It's still a system we have to get a grip of though, but finding part timers who can play it with any degree of consistency is a big ask.

…..and that’s why it’s great to see you back!
