  1. Soooooooooooooooooooooo getting back to fitba, 11 changes for Ireland tonight & a more creative line-up & we pish all over USA 4-1. MON just got the selection all wrong on Friday, picked a team to win a battle no a euro qualifier. We'll have learned from this for June. COYBIG!

Ireland are definitely not out of that group and their 4 games at home. It annoys me the way that some of the thickos on here are slagging them off when they could quite easily hammer us at the Aviva. The fact that they can beat a decent team by that kind of margin shows they have players that can do serious damage

  2. I watched the catch up episodes of this on Iplayer. It's brilliant and terrifying although arguably in very bad taste. However, I can't deny that it's gripping TV. James Nesbitt is actually good in this as is Tcheky Karo who is always fantastic. The plot is that a child goes missing while on a family holiday in France and in shifting timelines from 8 years into the future and back, events unfold where the parents, police and relatives try and trace the child. Now maybe it's because of various characters being incarcerated and signs of events that have taken place such as marital separation it really makes you want to keep watching but it's well written and directed.

Tuesday 9 pm on BBC1 although i'd recommend watching all previous episodes on Iplayer

  3. Long way to go and Southern Ireland have a run of home games coming up.

Scotland have made a good start epitomised by the feeling that the 2-1 defeat in Germany was a missed opportunity.

Even third place would present a decent opportunity to progress via the playoffs?

Definitely but it's not a cert

  4. I think maybe a wee bit of prudence should be shown in thinking we're going to get third or above place and Ireland are consigned to fail. O'Neill has a habit of producing good results from nowhere, as does Strachan. Slagging off a team and manager before we're even half way through is stupid so I'll wait and see if we can do it

  5. Blue Ruin 9/10

I thought this was brilliant. It's about a guy, essentially a bum, that discovers a criminal linked to his own past has been released from prison and takes action, drawing in members of his own family and members of the family of the released man. Ostensibly a revenge thriller and it IS grizzly and brutal in places but there's a sympathetic antihero at its heart and a subtle almost Coen-esque dark humour in there too (which sounds cliched but it's the best way to describe it). There's an element of farce but it's not played at all for laughs though like something like 'Sightseers' and that element doesn't feel forced or gratuitous. It adds to the charm, if that's the right word, rather than taking over the film. Above all though it's got great tension and atmosphere throughout and has a pretty satisfying finale.

Best revenge picture I've seen. Retribution corrupts and destroys especially when he wanted his friend to burn the photo he had of them together. He wanted to erase himself from existence. It was tragic but brilliant

  6. So this is the level of shite you post when outside of the politics forum? Good grief.

Back in your box ya loon.

If you're not going to contribute to the thread then maybe you should consider refraining from posting...preferably indefinitely

  7. I used to love Doctor Who as a children's TV show and now it's degenerated into a childish idiot fest for adults. That ratty faced actress from "The Acid House" really chewed the scenery and some of the script was atrocious. The sentimental parting of two of the protagonists had a touching quality that was out of touch for what's meant to me sci-fi fun. Clearly some humanists have taken over writing and it lacks the original's apolitical fantastic (as in Fantasy) charm. They've ruined the show which is a shame because Peter Capaldi is very good in the title role.

  8. I'd honestly rather be ruled by the Germans than Westminster.

We already are and there doesn't seem to be any desire to change it. I think UKIP are a one policy party so I wouldn't vote for them but I wish somebody would have the cajones to stand up to the EU and not pay them their membership and demand our own controls for immigration

  9. No, but will be interested; looks like it isn't out here until March now.

Been burned by Eli Roth before, however. Cabin Fever was billed as a return to Texas Chain Saw Massacre-style balls-out 70s horror, and I was disappointed, although I've seen it since and it's not that bad for what it is (certainly better than the sequels). So, when I hear that The Green Inferno is a return to balls-out 70s cannibal movies...well, we'll see. I certainly wouldn't expect it to be the relentlessly grim experience that Cannibal Holocaust is, probably more Cannibal Ferox I'd imagine, but I like the sound of the "green do-gooders get a nasty surprise" angle.

Not that I have a problem with green activists, BTW :P

I hated those Italian horrors tbh especially Eaten Alive although the Deodato films aren't much better. They're the punk rock of horror and I could never see the attraction to them. The idea of Climate Change nutters being killed on film isn't something I'd enjoy. Far better to see them make c**ts of themselves trying to get through ice ;)

  10. I'd imagine REC works best on the first viewing, what with the late merging of horror subgenres and...erm...interesting night-vision spectacle. I liked the mystery aspect of it best, I think, and enjoyed the late reveal. REC 2 is also very good; starts off feeling like a cheap cash-in, but gradually subverts that and becomes an interesting film by itself. The third one is just a generic zombie movie, and a massive disappointment.

There's also the American version, Quarantine, which is virtually a scene-by-scene remake. I'd recommend The Poughkeepsie Tapes, which is by the same director, and is a surprisingly nasty bit of found footage. I also quite enjoyed Devil as an entertaining slice of silliness. The buzz about As Above, So Below put me off, but I'll be curious to see that when it comes out on DVD.

As we're talking Blair Witch, it's worth mentioning the film that it was accused of ripping off at the time, Cannibal Holocaust

The good thing about a Cloverfield sequel is that they can do it at any time and have it follow directly on from the original, if they want to. There were no characters that would need to return. So I wouldn't give up hope; wouldn't surprise me if they come up with one when Matt Reeves and JJ Abrams get a hole in their schedules (probably when everyone's given up hope).

Edit: forgot Quarantine 2, which I remember being an entertaining little straight-to-video thing, so long as you go in with low expectations.

Have you seen "The Green inferno"? I tried to but apparently it was pulled after a row over distribution.

  11. The Guardian was opposed to Scottish independence, just like the vast majority of all mainstream publications.

How can you not understand this relatively simple point?

You said they published a few pro independence articles so how would they be against independence? HTH

  12. http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/sep/12/guardian-view-scottish-independence

'The Guardian view on the Scottish referendum: Britain deserves another chance'

The Guardian was pro-union during the entire campaign - and haven't shifted from that stance (obviously).

However they did have a few pro-independence articles and were more balanced than most papers.

I hope this alleviates your confusion.

Ahhhh right. So they "had the entire mainstream media at their disposal" but not all of them were against independence? So we can discount the "entire mainstream media" for being responsible for your loss then? It has alleviated my confusion.

    You are full of it

  13. You forgot to mention they had the power of the entire mainstream media at their disposal.

And of course the good old-fashioned British establishment to tap for funding, favours, and string that require pulling.

Like The Guardian? They have a poll telling us that an independence referendum would return a "Yes" with the caveat that it would have to be held today. It's been quoted by your chronies and indeed celebrated by you. So are they part of a conspiracy or an ally? Can you alleviate my confusion at this anomaly?

  14. The good guys called this all along.

I knew the no vote was very likely in September, but it's obvious that the Scottish Parliament will now get more powers after all the promises. If not, the Westminster parties seriously risk alienating soft no voters.

The SNP will continue to show competent governance after these powers are delivered and when the last of the post-imperial old codgers die off, independence is an inevitability in 10, 15, 20 years time.

    :)
