Are we really going to give Campbell that much credit for Gold ending up at right back?
Let's look at what really happened.
He tried Dunlop, Little and Whatley despite having an actual right back in Thomson (who wasn't up to scratch)
Dunlop was too slow and cumbersome, Little being out there destabilised the centre of defence and Whatley was a shadow of the full-back he was 2 years ago and also weakened the midfield.
Surely the next logical choice would be the guy that played right-back regularly when he was learning the game at Hibs?
That guy then has a great half up at Elgin then doesn't get picked there for about the next 6 games, until after Whatley had a holocaust of a game in Edinburgh.
As for Hodge, when Sukar was the previous answer, I think everyone was happy to give him the benefit of the doubt. Most fans would have preferred Phillips to Sukar.
There was also a fair shout for Smyth to come in and move Hammy to left back but I think breaking up the partnership wouldn't have been the right choice. A good centre-back pairing can accommodate a weak full-back, it doesn't happen the opposite way.
