  1. Great to get that first win, hopefully kick on from here.

Thought it was a good performance overall, got into some nice positions, but lacked that clinical edge. Best performance from Smith so far, still not brilliant was certainly an improvement over recent weeks.

Thought Zanatta looked ok, seemed like he wanted to get forward, definitely some positive direction that we have been lacking.

One was very good when he came on, definitely a talent there, will be exciting to see what he can develop into, if we can manage to keep him. So hard to believe he's only 16.

Surprised to hear about the throwing incidents, as ive never heard or witnessed anything like that before, home or away. Won't say too much on it, as I didn't see much sitting close to section J. But from I heard it was the Arbroath fans that initiated it, definitely no excuse, as throwing coins etc is definitely unacceptable.

I was bang in line with that offside call and it was very, very tight. It looked to me in the first half that Daire had a shot blocked for a corner but the ref gave a goal kick - Ayr players seemed convinced anyway. What did everybody else see with that?

That was a strange one. I thought it was an Ayr corner, but other fans around me said it had came back off the Ayr player, which I assume is what Doyle saw, as he shielded it out of play, rather than clearing it up field.

  3. Very open game, which pretty much had everything, was a good watch, even if the quality wasn't always there.

It was a funny performance from our side, as I thought about half the players had good games, and the other half had absolute stinkers.

On the good side I thought Winter, Martin and Shiels were excellent, ran themselves into ground, and winter showed that he has quality and could turn into a really good finisher. Also want to mention Fulton, think he's been decent so far and looking more like a proper number 1.

On the bad side, it's really sad to see how far Lewis Smith has regressed, looked absolutely lost and scared of the ball.

Couldn't believe the penalty decision, will need to see it again, but to me it looked like a great challenge, even the Ayr players weren't protesting and just wanted to get on with it. Definitely looks like 2 awful penalty decisions against us in the space of 14 days, least justice was done this time around.

Overall the draw was a fair result, Ayr love a cracker of goal against us.

  4. Looking forward to the away trip, but as for the result, not so optimistic. Never remember an easy game against Ayr, struggling even at the best of times.

Would be great if Chucky is back, as I feel we really missed him last week, Winter up top on his own was to the surprise of no one, not effective.

Think it will be a hat-trick of 1-1 Draws for us.

  5. Terrible call for the penalty, but the red card was spot on, seeing it again, such a stupid challenge.

Also it might be just because it's Mortons highlights focusing on their attacks, but our defending is worse than I remember it. Morton players had acres of space just outside our box. Do that against Partick and we'll get hammered.

  6. This will definitely be a much more difficult test, hopefully we do get some bodies in early this week.

Our defence is less than convincing which, after seeing that Partick went 3-0 up yesterday has me very worried. We won't have Want, which I think most will agree is probably a good thing with how he's playing atm. So I'd expect Owens or if the rumours are true, Hamilton to start.

Really not expecting much for us here, so would be happy with a draw and another point on the board.

  7. We seem to have got a knack recently for having strange first league games of a season.

The referee is the first thing i have to mention, his performance was the worst I've seen in a long time. He seemed to lose control of things from the very first incident, from then on, it felt like he was just rolling dice for every decision. We will definitely get penalties this season for less than that clear handball.

From our side I thought there was a lot of positives to take. We showed great fight in that 2nd half, the players were playing for each other and giving their all, which was very pleasing, and you could see that the crowd was responding to it. Hope to see that throughout the season.

Regret putting Morton so high on my predictions, the game was getting handed to them on a plate, but they didn't to want to take it. Seemed more focused on gaining fouls and getting our players booked than scoring goals.

  8. The new league season is nearly here and with it the usual renewed excitement. How long will that last this time...

We've been handed a fairly decent first game, home against a team I'm predicting we'll be close to for the majority of the season, definitely winnable.

At the moment with our thin squad, it's fairly obvious what our team will be, and can only see that changing if there's an injury.

For Morton with the league cup being the only reference currently, seems like they are struggling for goals being as of yet unable to replace Ugwu. Hearing the rumors that Imrie isn't happy with his budget has dampened my initial thoughts on how well Morton will do, as he can tend to get a bit huffy, which won't bode well.

This was the 2nd game of the last campaign which we lost, so heres hoping we can get a better start in that regard.

    2-1 Accies

  9. Wow very bleak reading in terms of us, really hits home how obvious the mess we're in is that almost every fan has us rock bottom.

    1. Partick Thistle

    2. Inverness

    3. Dundee

    4. Morten

    5. Arbroath

    6. Cove Rangers

    7. Queens Park

    8. Accies

    9. Ayr

    10. Raith

We absolutely need players in or this really has the potential to be a complete disaster. However I think Rankin will do a good job, getting more out of players than Taylor did, so with that bit of positivity, I'll argue for us to survive...Just.

As a championship side, the best draw possible, but we have honking record in this cup so expect that to continue and we'll end up 3rd if we're lucky.

Also gives us a wee marker on how we measure up against the different kinds of opposition we'll have in the championship.

  11. Despite our 2 wins, i'm not confident about this at all. We have been really poor in all the games against Ayr so far, and our season long inconsistency means we're due a defeat.

Stan said in his interview that he's not a fan of fixing something that isn't broke, so hopefully that means the same line up again. In this formation our attacking is still lacking a cutting edge, but we look very solid at the back for the most part.

  12. Once again we were the masters of our own downfall. They say that incidents in football have a way of balancing out, I guess last night was to make up for all the penalties we've been given recently.

If we're not killing the game off by wasting chances, we're conceding soft goals at the other end, it really is going to be a shaky finish with the way things are going.

Just want the season to be over now, hopefully with the chance at playing in the championship next season.

  13. Was heading through to this as Kirkcaldy was one of my favourite away days. But I obviously can't give money to an establishment that turns a blind eye to behaviour like that. Will be keeping up with the game on twitter.

Feel so sorry for the decent fans amongst the support, which I know there is many, always was someone to have a chat with when through there.

Obviously I want us to win to gain more points, but with the situation, I'll be supporting anyone who plays them,  in hopes they get no rewards from this action.

  14. Be interesting to see how Stirling gets on at this level. I would regard him as our worst player.

He's bit of a utility player, has played at right back, centre back and holding midfield for us, none of which he has played well. So if nothing else, can plug a hole if you are lacking in those areas.

  15. Good point, we normally follow up a win with a Lacklustre performance, though this time I feel the forced changes played a part.

We so very badly need a right back, probably even 2 with one for cover, as right now we are quite vulnerable down that side. Matheson really didn't live up to it, and Hamilton hasn't been consistent enough.

Midfield as well, I dont think Mullen has been great, but because he was absent, we were missing a presence in there today.

Shiels is looking the part for me, Macca has his work cut out to stay first choice, fantastic block on the line to stop Thistle scoring.

  16. Well we seem to only keep our better performances against Queens.

Very fortunate start to the game, think everyone has to admit the penalty was very soft, and Queens all but killing their chances with their captain having a massive heads gone moment.

Thought everyone played well and not that he had much to do, but O'Reilly looked solid, played it out well and cleared his lines. Obviously saw very little of brown, but looked pacey which is always nice to have.

That Hughes pass for the second goal was the best thing he's done in an Accies shirt, and that 3rd goal was very slick, would love it if we could see more of that.

Just a mention to the QoSTV coverage, think its the best in the league and the commentary is always fair.
