  1. Another week, another hard luck story, and we're now 0/6 and rock bottom. Playing well is great, and we did with both 11 and 10 men, and dodgy referees will come and go,, but we are in danger here.

There will come a time when injuries and poor form will hit, where we definitely will deserve nothing from games, and likely get just that. Therefore if you're not 'making hay when the sun shines' trouble will likely lie ahead.

Here's hoping there's an SPFL club sitting with a young striker who will benefit from coming out to us and filling his boots. Certainly, we have nobody like that on the books currently and playing our tallest midfielder as a no 9 smacks of desperation.

Oh and I think Dumbarton will do very well this season. They have a. cracking squad and are winning before they've all 'clicked'; similar to Stenny last week, who I think will be your main title rivals.

    Bothered

    Baillieston

  2. Very fair comments above. We should have got a draw, but as pointed out, you need to hit the target to score and we didn't. Young Charlie will be kicking himself this morning, but he played well, and hopefully if he gets similar chances next weekend, he won't go for power.

Regardless, we played well against what is an excellent Stenny squad and one that will click within a couple of weeks, so probably best to get them out the road. We have the usual squad size worries, having once again saved on numbers to pay some players a wee bit more, so here's hoping injuries are kind to us.

Has he done enough to justify a move two leagues up? And a full-time contract?

    Not to my mind.

A more-pertinent question may be whether he's done enough for someone to take a punt on a development fee for him. I'm pretty certain we offered him a contract, and he is only 20, so we're hopefully due something.

Another poor performance from Binnie. YC and only saved 1 penalty.

Not sure what 'YC' stands for, but his penalty record is astounding. that said, I'd rather we stopped giving them away, although the first one yesterday looked a wee bit dubious. The sending off looked soft too, but Pixellot clearly isn't exactly iMAX quality, so I can't say for sure.

Good fighting draw on a day when Cowden sprung back to life. Here's hoping we can get rid of the illness and injuries for their visit in a fortnight, with a free weekend to plan and prepare in between.

No complaints really although can’t help feel that was a missed opportunity for Rovers. Boys done us proud but went flat after Ayr equalised and in fairness the full time training told in the end. Ayr went on to dominate. Good luck in the next round lads.

Yeah, I'd agree with that, albeit I watched on a pretty choppy Ayr United TV stream. Ayr edged it in the end for me, but Rovers competed well for an hour or so and should have been ahead at half time. Hopefully that just adds to the confidence levels. I wonder too whether our captain may struggle to get in after his suspension - young Alfie was excellent yesterday.

On the stream, the video quality wasn't great but that's the best commentary I've heard on a club stream. The two main commentators were fairly balanced in their views, had clearly done their homework on Rovers ,and knew a bit about football in general as well. Having listened to two clueless old guys with Black-n-Gold specs the previous week when Rovers played at Annan, the Ayr folks were different class.

hope the comments by the rovers players in the daily record don’t come to bite them in the erse 😅

Is this the offending article? https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/local-sport/kelty-hearts-win-would-massive-25001334

All I see there is a young boy wanting him and his teammates to be at there best and see where they match against the clear best team in the league. Surely, Kelty aren't so precious that they would take offence at it, and if young Charlie and co end up on the end of a reality check (and personally, I think they will) I doubt it will do them much longer-term damage.

Our season won't be defined by how we perform against Kelty. Your near neighbours are more our level (financially and on the pitch) and we beat them last week.

Hi all, Newbie Rovers fan, Gillingham is my team and where I'm from, but moved to Caldercruix, so have started going along to the Rovers for my football fix.

Good man! One of our regulars is a Gillingham fan who has lived in Coatbridge for many years

Emphatic win for you. Nice ground; it's obviously old, but well maintained and great that you're still there, as I had heard there was proposal for you to share with Airdrieonians. Is the stand opposite just being left to rot? It would surely be better for the ultras to stand there, so that they could benefit from the roof.

Yeah, pretty much left to rot. The steps are too marrow by modern standards so it would need dug out and re-done, and we don't have enough demand for that (or money to pay for it)

Is there segregation at your gaff? I'm considering popping along with a St. Mirren supporting friend, but I don't fancy being restricted to one part of the ground. Is the paddock still open, btw?

Segregation is rare and only where there's a risk of disorder - Airdrie, basically.

Paddock still open but we call it the Enclosure

It was used in April 2003 when Morton visited, losing to an injury time goal from a 27 stone Mark Yardley because Morton.

I'm not sure how they accomodated Airdrie fans in their couple of years of derbies in League One. As they've moved their Old Firm cup ties elsewhere there can't have been too many opportunities to use it recently.

Yeah, that was the last time it was used. How Yardley got down to head that one in a foot off the ground remains one of the wonders of nature.

Airdrie get all parts of the ground east of the tunnel and there is a barrier put in place. They enter by the same turnstile block though. I'm sure we had the same arrangements in place last time we played the Ton too.

  11. I get the whole bogey team stuff, and we do have a great record against some really good Stenhousemuir teams.

However, there's another 'bogey' at play - Rovers and expectation. We were really good last week, but have a look at the Rovers Message Board and you'll see that most people expect us to win and handsomely. That never tends to end well for Rovers - we perform best when least expected, so I'm going to go for 0-1 and a wee reality check.

I do still think we'll be nowhere near the Danger Zone this year, but we're not the finished article yet.

    Hope I'm wrong!

I feel like a Celtic fan watching Craig Gordon tonight reading that sentence.

We got rid of the wrong keeper this summer.

From what I've heard, Rovers thought Blair Currie would be released, and would have been very interested but might have had competition for his signature. However, in reality, it was Cammy that came free and was really easy to deal with.

He's an absolute cracker, but I'm sure you know that. Delighted to have him

I get why it happened but City nominating their own player would be just as wrong and I would quite rightly expect protestations the other way.
To say City were only protesting because they were getting beat is hardly fair, you must admit there is some merit behind their argument.
I just want to point out that I’m not having a go at the player or Albion Rovers, it’s just the whole situation we found ourselves in was a farce.

As far as I could see, City weren't protesting at all, as the matter seemed to have been dealt with by your Board at halftime. Naysmith then blew his top  when he found out from the new ref and then came over to remonstrate with his own employers. Cue 27 mins of shambles that left your own team totally flat, and us not much better.

I'd he interested in how you'd have solved the matter given the COVID protocols. Surely not have the match abandoned and Rovers shafted despite being two goals ahead?

Anyway, we were excellent today and well worth the victory. We did lose momentum after halftime but that's no surprise given the clown show that ensued. Calum Wilson was a well-deserved MotM but our wonderful goalkeeper wasn't far behind. We'll compete this year, no doubt

Wee fannys! Apparently, it was only one of that group who did it, so here's hoping they give the name to the Police - suspect they won't though.

We didn't like it when the Section B did it to us, and I hope Accies make a similar fuss.

Young guy up front Charlie Reilly has started brightly after signing from Partick, but the squad seem to be a group of hard workers more than anything this tlyear

I'd agree with that. although the goalkeeper looks a cracker to me. Cue him letting five by him tomorrow!

Any particular reason why a bunch of replies have been deleted here?

I suspect its the moderators deleting some of the "Cox brought it on himself" pish that appeared. Personally, I'd have left it, as it shows the posters for what they are, but the moderation on this site is pretty good so happy to trust them.

Some difference - I honestly thought at this stage we would be still battling it out with Brechin ( I suppose to some extent we still are) .
I’m assuming planning for next season has already started more than likely with the same manager. I’ll be honest I wasn’t overly sold on him - he was skating on thin ice after the cup debacle v Buckie. He’s in a reasonably strong position to demand a bit more money for the playing budget, to be fair he absolutely nailed the recruitment during the transfer window. I’m hoping the penny has dropped with the Board that you can’t put out an u-21 team and expect anything else than near the bottom. We’ll see let’s make sure of League safety first.

Yeah, if he wants to stay he should be given the opportunity. I would rather he kept out the press though, but not sure if we can mandate that.

Budget-wise, it needs to be a smaller squad rather than a large one all on near minimum wage. The difference guys like McGowan, Gallacher and Sideserf have made is palpable

1 point today or Brechin not winning guarantees our safety some difference in the team over the last 10 games

I don't see Brechin winning, although we are looking pretty tired now. Should be safe by 4.50, which is excellent and not something I expected when the season started back. I really did think Brechin would throw money at staying up, and i think to some extent they did, but it wasn't enough.

ETA: Brechin won't be winning today. They're not playing - doh!

Has it improved at all? Is there commentary?

Yes, its better. No longer zoomed out so far and not following crisp packets or baldy linesmen nowadays. Audio can be a wee bit annoying as the commentators cheer the goal before the shot has been hit, but its much better than having nothing at all.

Commentary has been pretty good recently, A few folks had a go at doing it, but there's been a settled pairing of Ben Kearney and Sam Tennent recently and they're both pretty insightful and as fair as supporters are ever going to be (red and yellow specs)

Now I think about it, Stranraer's coverage is probably the best. Stirling's is good video-wise but the young commentators aren't great. QP is not bad too - they have replays like Stirling
