  1. Big Roy's xmas goal was definitely the best but Peter colemans goal against Celtic in a three all draw at park head was brilliant. He hit the ball from the bye line and it soared above Denis connachans outstretched hands into the roof of the net. Brian herons free kick from 150 metres against Kilmarnock was also great. More recently Tony's wallaces goal against airdrie in the play offs was a joy to watch.
  2. I have forgotten how much we got from Real Madrid for chizzy.
  3. In 2003/4 in the second division sons averaged 1039 when 80 per cent would have been Dumbarton supporters. In 2014/15 we averaged 1074 and that is with games against rangers hearts and hibs with only about 50 per cent being Dumbarton supporters. Dumbarton are averaging less than 600 home fans per game despite the fact that we are in the championship. The team deserves much better support for their performances but the fan base in this area is diminishing quickly.
  4. Dumbarton is a small town with a shrinking population, low paid employment and a mass of people who would rather support the old firm. The support that it does have is ageing with fewer kids coming. In the old days all children were lifted over the turnstyle for nothing and before that all females were let in for free. Despite being in the championship for four seasons the support is dropping off with barely 600 Dumbarton fans turning up for home games. The gates have been boosted this season simply because that Rangers hibs and st Mirren are in the league. The board whilst not unfriendly do not go out of their way to attract customers. If we eventually get relegated we could be in danger of becoming like Cowdenbeath and struggling to attract 300 home supporters. Children are the life blood of the club and they and their mothers must be allowed in for free or the club could eventually die. No harm to those in charge but the club needs visionaries and not a lot of good old boys in suits who are friendly to their mates and don't really give a toss about the average or potential supporter.
  5. Talking to Nicky Phinn and stevie Ross earlier and they confirm the intended player is jack griffin.
  6. I heard that Walsh is training under the tutelage of Craig lynes.i expect next season following his release from rangers he will be playing for Clyde. He adds little to the team. Maybe it is time to give heh an extended run in the team.
  7. Gibraltar has a large rock. Dumbarton has a large rock. Any other places that have large rocks we can get players from. How about Ayers Rock? Any useful players from there?
  8. Just heard that Barry cook has sent an apology to hibs for refereeing a Dumbarton victory. He said it was a complete aberration on his part and that it will never happen again.
  9. I am going hang gliding on the Tuesday and washing my hair on Thursday. I will have to discuss with my people if I have a window on the Wednesday.
  10. Don't know if it is just coincidence but I am sure I saw kenny Wilson leaving a shoe shop with a pair of boots under his arm. Ross Mathie is also available.
  11. I notice from website the dates of new league cup which I will miss because of previously booked holidays. However when will the petrofac competition take place which supposedly will include Irish Welsh and youth teams. Is it still knockout or Round robin?
  12. Gilbert was a true son of the rock. Men like him are irreplaceable.
  13. I notice that the Sunday mail(not to be confused with the Mail on Sunday or even a real newspaper) had a report on a third Lanark v Dumbarton game from 1920 in its edition. I take it if we sign anyone this week the mail will report it sometime around 2110.
  14. Shocked about death of David Bowie. I am sure that ziggy stardust was alive and strong when sons won promotion in 1972. In fact I seem to remember Bowie on the tannoys of Scottish grounds at that time. No doubt the likes of howling wilf can give a better summary of Bowie but how about playing only Bowie tracks on the tannoy at the game on Saturday.
  15. At the moment the Irish and Icelandic leagues are on their winter breaks as are the Scandinavian leagues. We have gained players in the past from these leagues eg Chris Turner and Hring hringsson. Also we had a young defender from Sheffield United a few years ago. There must be a lot of good young players about who are looking for a regular game. Bertie auld played as a loanee for us and the experience did him a world of good. The players are there if only Aitken can find them.
  16. As it would appear that the bay city rollers have been dug up and reanimated can we expect McCormick and Wilson to lead the line this Saturday?
  17. I notice that Brian Colvin, God bless him, almost caused a riot in his last ever game as a referee at hibs v QOS. He made an outlandish decision in the last minute to hand hibs the points. After years of incompetence can we be surprised . Watch the hibs game tonight on sport scene to see what the clown did. I reckon Dumbarton could earn an extra six points a season without him as we lost every game he refereed.
  18. Interesting new league cup competition for next season. Groups of five in regionalised leagues. Dumbarton Morton st Mirren partick thistle and Rangers would save a lot of travelling and bring decent crowds to CID.
  19. Once we have overcome Alloa in the cup next stop QOS in front of another huge home support. The final beckons.
  20. A few years ago a new manager called Neil Lennon was struggling in his first season with one of the lesser Glasgow sides when he took them to Kilmarnock only to find himself three goals down. A fight back just like today's brought them back to3-3 each and his team went on to a successful season . Could today be the turning point for the sons? Only time will tell but if they can refind that battling effort that we saw in the last ten minutes nothing is impossible. But please Stevie learn from this. Stop playing deep defensively and get two men up and attack the opposition..
  21. Note to manager. Play 4 4 2. You cannot score unless you attack and never drop wullie Gibson again.
  22. There is nothing better than a visit to ibrox. Stuck in some obscure corner surrounded by troglodytes and that's just the stewards. No save your money for our fabulous cup run this season. When we win the cup we will go straight into next seasons Europa league. I remember messi saying that his only ambition left was to play at theCID stadium.
  23. Gary has played well this season. But he is better playing off a target man rather than being a target man. 442 suits him a lot better than 4231. He always gives 100 per cent and is not afraid to mix it physically. If he had a Roy McCormack or John Burke to feed off he would be scoring 20 goals per season.. The players we have are good enough aitken just has to find the right blend and tactics.
  24. To sack or even think of sacking aitken at this time would be foolishness. We have seen with the victories over st Mirren Morton and especially Hibs how well the team can play. The players are good enough to play in this division but seem to lack commitment and drive. They also seem not to communicate with each other as if they are strangers . Aitken should be prioritising the incentivising of the players and refinding the confidence which seems to slipping away. These players are good enough to stay up and aitken must find the best way of playing them.
  25. What Dumbarton need badly is a leader on the park. Someone to shout, exort encourage and lead by example. Andy graham was such a player as was Jim meechan twenty years ago. Maybe Fraser Wright when fit could take that role over but certainly nobody did it yesterday. At times the lads looked like they were on a picnic such was their lethargy. All the players yesterday were good enough but there was no heart or desire to win. It is not new players that we need but a new attitude.
