  1. That Tuesday is unacceptable. I have choir practice and know of two other sons supporters who play dominoes on a Tuesday night.
  2. There is a law which states Dumbarton can only play Alloa or stranraer in cup ties. No doubt if we beat Alloa we will get Stranraer at stair park in the next round.
  3. Just looking around at players who appeared yesterday in their respective squads. How would this team perform Rogers McGinn Gordon Collins Devlin Geggan Turner Forbes Megginson Kane Dobbie Subs Crawford Graham Lithgow Holmes Gilhaney Russell Gemmell Could this team beat our present mob. Loved to have seen Dobbie and Kane play togethe.
  4. I reckon I have watched between two and three thousand games at all levels over the years but despite being a sons supporter since birth there really is no greater experience than watching Scotland beating England. The glow stays with you for weeks. To be amongst a crowd of over 100000 scots fans at Hampden in the old days made you feel invincible.
  5. Feel sorry for today's Scotland fans. Not only are the team crap but Hampden has totally lost its atmosphere. Was at Scotland v England in the seventies when dalgleish put the ball through Clemence's legs for the winner. Crowd was well over100000 and the excitement was almost visible. Dalgleish bremner law Jordan etc. We have no one anywhere near that class sadly anymore.
  6. Nothing specific to say just wanted to appear on page 400 of sons sorrow. About time a new name was introduced for these posts . How about Bobby madden is a waste of space.
  7. There were a lot of baboons in Gibraltar but never saw any velvet monkeys. Quite a few chimpanzees have refereed Dumbarton games over the years. All were far better than Bobby madden.
  8. I think we will do better against Morton who we have already beaten this season as being the home team they will attack us which suits Dumbarton style of play. As I have said before Gary Fleming this season is playing the best form of his career but he is crying out for a target man to lay off. If macormack or bourke was playing with him Gary would get 20 goals this season. Surely taggart will return at right back. He was one of our best players before being dropped and also Cawley must be in the side because of his speed and industry. Aitken has said at the press conference that certain players had been found out and will not be playing next week. Could the names Wright and Craig be missing next week? We can't even blame nishy. Build the team around routledge who is a premier league player and things could turn positively for us. Remember only two weeks till the Ibrox mob arrive. It would great to be the first team to beat them.
  9. Diddy team Harkins Chisholm cairney dickie Wharton Allan lynes smith Moffat Glancy mc kelvie
  10. Some interesting picks for best team. I know that macginn was good but Sinclair and Ray montgomerie were our best ever full backs although govan and jardine and also macadam and wilkinson are worth mentioning. Johnny graham was without doubt our best ever player in the past fifty years. McLeod Wallace and sharp went on to be internationals but could not lace johnnys boots. I just wish our younger fans had Seen him play. Big John Burke was the best header of a ball I have ever seen in a Dumbarton Jersey. Kenny Wilson and hughie Gallagher were great goalscorers and it is hard to separate them. Big jack Bolton was a wonderful centre half and hughie McLean was a great midfielder to watch.pat mccluskey was a brilliant sweeper and Ian Wallace was really exciting to watch.
  11. Not sure who the two players are but going by aitkens previous signings would not be suprised if he does not return for another Stranraer player. Also with hearts doing so well and having a large squad one of their young players on loan could be beneficial.a striker would be nice but a versatile defender would not go wrong.
  12. Just watching the greatest footballer of all time Lionel messi in the uefa supercup. However horrified to see that Bobby madden is one of the officials. Talk about donkeys mixing with thoroughbreds.
  13. Just looking at today's Lennox herald which on page 13 has a picture of a sons team from supposedly 1962 . No way this team were from 1962 . Far from being pedantic but that picture was taken in 1955. Also the player called cormack was really cornock and the player called McColl was really McCall. Glad to get that off my chest. Interesting to look behind the players at the packed crowd as in the mid fifties Dumbarton could get 7000 or more for a second division league game. At the front of photo is the prince of goal scorers the immortal hughie gallacher. If we had hughie in the present side we would be assured 25 goals from him. .
  14. Was at rugby park in seventies when big John broke the leg of a Kilmarnock player with a perfectly fair tackle. He had thighs like tree trunks. Ronnie curran was a real hard man as well . Drew nelson was also hard but also a little crazy and was not a man to annoy. If I remember rightly big John jumbo Muir and Dennis ruddy all played at same time in one of the hardest half back lines in post war Scottish football.
  15. Well back to Victorian times at the worst stand in Scotland at grotty old cappielow. How it gets a safety certificate is beyond me. It is a lovely day but will we be allowed to stand behind the goal? I doubt it. No idea how sons will fare as it is a brand new team however Morton are a team we must defeat to stay up. But Inthis cup we struggle every year. Intrigued to see how we perform today
  16. Charleston ref for tomorrow so we can forget about round two.
  17. Do allied still have major sponsorship with Dumbarton? Do aggreko sponsor the sons? Sadly there are very little major private companies left in this area. Dumbarton seem to depend on small companies for their sponsorship programme, where is sir Hugh Fraser when you need him?
  18. The first victory in the cheaper insurance stadium and well deserved it was. Routledge is a cracking player. The defence were cool and composed and Gary Fleming had a great first half. The play was very positive and passing was the aim of the game. The team looked much stronger than this time last season and Gibson is going to be very entertaining. It is just a matter of which play off place we attain. All we need is a goal scoring striker and the championship is won
  19. Any truth in the rumour that Aiken signed routledge because he is the only player he could find who is smaller than him. Never mind though Craig Britton was tiny but always gave 100 per cent and routledge looks like a pocket Dynamo. As for calm waters I once saw a film of the same name. However if the boy is anywhere as good as big Findlay he should be an excellent signing. Problem now is a to find a 20 goal striker. We got Chris turner from Irish football so is there no chance of raiding Ireland again to find a top class striker or even the Icelandic league which has some useful players.
  20. In keeping with tradition the game with East Fife will be postponed 16 minutes from kick off with 100 Dumbarton fans already in ground.
  21. Just watching status quos successful gig at Palmerston last month on you tube. Time for the sons to do the same at our pitch. Could I suggest Taylor swift or lady gaga to fill the bill.
  22. Ah the halcyon days of boghead in the 50's and 60's. Hughie Gallagher, Leslie brown, govan and Jardine, Andy Crawford,Jim lynas etc etc. remember being lifted over at the gate whilst children without an adult would walk up and down the queue begging a lift. Thankfully kids in those days were smaller and lighter. Don't fancy trying to lift some of today's obese kids over the turnstile.remember at around 4.15 the back gate would be opened to let people out and there were always a dozen meanies hanging about to see the last thirty minutes for free.
  23. Back to the slum known as cappielow. I heard that the prisoners in Guantanamo bay are threatened they will be sent to cappielow if they do not behave themselves. Could someone explain why hibs are in the south and west draw whilst Falkirk East Stirling and Stirling Albion are in the north and east draw. Jiggery-pokery I think. As Dumbarton have no chance of winning we should concede to Morton and arrange a friendly against an English team we have not played before.
