    Scottish Cup Round 1 Result

Dearyme beats cols407 by checkmate. A bit bizarre this game. I felt I was comfortable but ended up being a bit slack and if cols407 had one more move I could have been mated. As it was I had a mating attack myself.

Good game mate, surprised you're not having more success in Division C. Stick at it and it'll come good.

960 really is quite bizarre. Work to be done in this format for me. The boys will be back on the training ground tomorrow. Although we'll be back to league action and the league remains the club's priority.

Good game, enjoyed that format for a change, never knew it was a thing. Always a good learning experience playing the top guys.

I don’t understand what a “coaching manager” is? I’d agree he’s clearly better suited to being on the training pitch than the dugout.

You get managers who will step away from the coaching and let their coaching staff take care of training sessions while managing from a distance and others who are very hands on in terms of the coaching.

Stevie Crawford seemed insistent on being head coach rather than manager at the start, different titles kind of defines style to effectively the same role.

  3. Some OTT responses to being linked with Peter Grant. His CV doesn't scream success but he's a coaching manager and I would be interested to see what he could do having players full time and not just a couple of nights a week. No-one realistic stands out over others for being either awful or overly successful, all a much of a muchness.

We're lucky to have a a lot of good players committed for next season already but hopefully someone in place soon, getting to important stage of the close season.

    Division C Round 12, cols407 beats GordonS496.

I tried opening with the Sicilian, first time I've used it since I did the wee study thing on Lichess about it. I didn't like it at all, it just feels passive. Lots to learn.

It was pretty even until cols nicely outmanoeuvred me and I lost a bishop, but you inexplicably gave me it back. My positional play was rank after than but fair play to you, you executed it properly (though on move 23 you should have shifted that central knight to c5, forking my queen and rook, as I realised the second after I had made my move).

    GG, you well deserved that.

Yeah, seen that fork in the analysis. I knew I was giving the bishop back straight away but valued opening up space around your king over it. Likely the wrong decision, tunnel vision.

Not sure if this a response is to my post. If you are, your response is taking my point out of context.

I was questioning where his desire for the Pars job was coming from,  as he has been there and done it in terms of previous jobs. The Rovers comment was a side comment about sentiment not even being a factor in motivating him, because we're not his boyhood team. Not the fact he's a Rovers fan and doesn't like the Pars.

I don't think sentiment is really a thing once a person enters football professionally. Similarly I don't think Stewart Petrie will view the Dunfermline job much differently than any other full time vacancy of a club around the same stature or level, maybe slightly but only slightly.

What has he done in management in the last decade to suggest he'd be a good manager for us?

I'd prefer not appointing him but he's massively experienced. While rarely successful, he's also rarely a complete failure.

On the flip side, what's to suggest that Stewart Petrie is better placed to be successful at Dunfermline than Craig Levein?

I really like GS, and I hope he stays in charge of youth/potential academy but I don’t want to see a sideways step with someone already at the club. I was underwhelmed when Stevie was appointed but like we all were I was willing to give it a go. What difference would Shields make, he was already heavily involved last season when things weren’t going well?

There's no telling what difference Shields would make. Just because he was part of the last management isn't to say having him as head coach wouldn't change things.

The board didn't dismiss SC and weren't looking for a change of management, I accept it is a good opportunity to go a different direction though.

We’ve announced Dair’s away. Not a surprise, I can’t imagine any incoming manager would particularly want him in their management team.

Interesting that no mention of Shields yet. I must admit on Tuesday after the news broke I thought Greg Shields could be quite a strong candidate to move up to the head coach role but I have never seen it suggested anywhere else.
