ANY club in Leagues 1/2 could have a couple of bad seasons and find themselves in a relegation playoff.  ‘Natural level’ becomes a meaningless concept when you have a couple of bad seasons.

What happened to Cowdenbeath with three relegations could even happy - dare say - to Arbroath.

And even some full-time teams could be vulnerable, given that the wage levels some are offering don’t make them attractive to some good part-timers who have reasonably well paid jobs.

The team from Ibrox proved it.

Larbert and Stenhousemuir have a bigger population than Arbroath, and that's before you look at smaller surrounding villages like Carronshore. It's nonsense to say Stenny and Arbroath are both currently where they should be, whilst simultaneously talking about population size when comparing the likes of Montrose and Bonnyrigg.

What's the script giving out hundreds of riddies ya daftie?

    lol

  3. Probably the people i should  talk fo are the committee who got the floodlights.

If you bother to read 2 or 3 leagues further up you'll see the panic starting to set in.

Don't have 2 or 3 bad sessons or you could be playing in the Wosfl.

Same goes the opposite way for the likes of Pollok.

2 good seasons starting now and it's hello SPFL2.

Could Newlandsfield be adapted with maybe a covered seated area beside the new flats say and new turnstiles?

I think a lot of fans of a lot of clubs will be nodding along at this. We stayed amateur because we could, counted the rental money and sat in our big palace not really needing to attract any more fans than we already had.

Things have obviously changed to an enormous extreme from us at QP, but we sailed along because the system allowed us to. There is absolutely no doubt we’d have been in the Lowland League with no prospect of return, in the near future, if we hadn’t voted as we did. Certainly not taking any of the current stuff for granted. Never know what’s round the corner.

I watched Pollok v Clydebank last night in a West of Scotland cup tie.

    Attendance 750

But worth pointing out it was only £7 to get in. £4 for concessions.

How many would have went had the admission price been say £15?

Yes, I have the power to change fixtures if I believe it will help with the running of the competition and if I have to re-schedule postponements due to weather, cup games etc. I cannot change games just because 1 team asks for it. If I was to allow 1 team to do it, I'd have to allow all teams to do it. Imagine the chaos that would cause if teams were allowed to pick and choose when they wanted to play.

    Interesting

Here's me thinking that's what our top clubs did for the last 40 years.

    lol

We make no excuses for being demoted. In fact, there’s a lot of devastation and a lot of demotion. Had we not had to play on Firhill’s pitch we would have been comfortably further up the table. We won’t take any of these League one part time diddies lightly or overlook them as we build a squad for being back in The Championship in 2023/24.

Have you of this thing called the Lowland League?

  7. Firstly, congratulations with the new Devil's Candles.

Secondly, hopefully all going well within the next few years we see all our top Wosfl clubs leaving for pastures new, never to return.

No much point in a pyramid if our top clubs are stuck in Tier 6 forever.

    That brings me to Newlandsfield.

As football grounds go, Newlandsfield must be one of the most public transport friendly grounds in the country with a train station on its doorstep and a number of bus routes to and from the city centre.

Plus plenty of car parking space.

Add in a supermarket and Kilmarnock Rd on it's doorstep.

Compare that to coming out a night game in some isolated parts of Greater Glasgow.

    Which brings to Newlandsfield itself.

How could Pollok hope to develop that ground going forward?

It's boxed in on every side.

    Could it even be developed?

    Where could you put seats?

I notice the capacity on the Pollok website stated as 4000.

Would Glasgow City Council allow that many in say for a cup tie in say, the big Scottish?

Would that blue car be allowed to park at the bottom of the coffee stall stairwell at a major game like it did last night?

Would a steward be there to open the gate and keep it open or do punters say, Hawd oan till i open the gate fully?

Fun times ahead with a capacity crowd.

Big well done to glens the night, another good battling display has got us closer to safety. Still a bit to do but we’ve gave ourselves a right good chance now . Horrible shitey display from the referee tonight though, thought he was terrible, some amazing decisions

    And the score was?

I don't think for a minute that Darvel care about furthering the reputation of the WOSL but I'd like to see them win as they're clearly the best and most heavily resourced team. Better chance for everyone else without them next time round. I will have a wee chuckle if Tranent upset the script too.

Is that code for Talbot winning the league by nexr February?

  10. 42 minutes ago, glensmad said:

Not the current WoSFL officials. That decision was made while the Lowland League were running the WoSFL and before the Interim Management Group was formed.

Were you related to the late, Bobby Murdoch?

    That's one hellva defection.

    Respect

Apart from the football which had it's ups and downs as ever, it's fantastic to be able to turn up to so many WOS league grounds on an Autumn or Winter evening to take in a game. Facilities have come on leaps and bounds in the last couple of years and it has brought new life and new fans to the game.

Hopefully facilities will continue to get better now the glass ceiling has been partially lifted at league level and at least a doorway to things like the big Scottish Cup.

It's great to see clubs really making an effort right across the West Region.

  12. Sadly as someone who saw the last 50 years worth of Scottish football and probably a 100? different Scottish stadia from Stranraer to Aberdeen, i wont see the next 50 years.

I really love to know how this all pans out.

I admit i was pleasantly surprised at Arbroath v Inverness Caley getting 4000/5000 in for a playoff game.

    Cowdenbeath v Bo'ness 2000/3000, brilliant crowd.

Is there any team out there in Scottish non league world who could attract that number of punters even in a one off outside of playing the top six teams in Scotland.

There's been 8 pyramid play-offs now and only one HL team has managed to come through (and that was Cove, who are a bit of a special case due to their cash). I'm sure more HL teams will step up from time to time but I'd expect it to continue to be the exception, especially given the expected strengthening of the LL over the next few seasons.

I suspect that first team to bounce back into the SPFL won't be one of the current four. What we've seen with Shire and Berwick so far seems to be that teams dropping down suffer a bit of a shock where they regress even further and struggle to compete, rather than 'regrouping' and competing straight away. Brechin had a very respectable first season in the HL and you'd expect them to be competitive in most seasons but as someone's already mentioned, even winning the HL is a 25% shot at promotion as things stand (12.5% going by the stats).

The LL will likely improve significantly year-on-year for a good 5-10 years as the utter dross as the bottom are flushed out and replaced with much stronger ex-junior clubs, currently at tier 5. Once things even out a bit, you'll probably see teams coming down having a better shot at going up.

Right now, and for the next few seasons, you've got the worst equipped "traditional" SPFL clubs dropping down and competing with the clubs who stepped up the quickest after making the move from the juniors. Once you get to the point where slightly bigger diddy ex-SPFL clubs (East Fife, Dumbarton, Clyde, etc) coming down to compete with the slightly diddier big ex-junior clubs (Linlithgow, Kilwinning, etc) then things might start to shift a bit more to the side of the ex-SPFL clubs.

It'll be interesting to see how Cowden get on though.

Could you see a day when the ex SPFL clubs drop further down than the LL?

Many did have bottles in the ground.  I’ve never seen such blatant disregard for the laws.

Looked to me that Cowdenbeath didn’t exactly try too hard to stop it tho. It was so obvious, but with the number of stewards they had little chance.

Mind you, last time I was at Central Park a Cowden fan was smoking a joint on the terrace 😂

Kinda does show at the lower end of the spfl the laws are a bit silly as there was little trouble, climbing the fence at the end probably the worst offense.

That was an attraction for many in the old Juniors/non league along with the cheap admission price.

There is usually plenty of space in the average non leage "shed" to smoke and drink to your hearts content.

Nobody would take any notice as long as you didn't annoy anyone.
